2 PROGRAMME Thursday 1 st October h30 30: Take off of the flight Air China, CA118 to Beijing 11h55 55: Arrive in Beijing, go through the custom and get back the luggage 13h: Departure by bus directly from the airport to the great wall at Simatai (1h30 to 2h) Lying in the Gubeikou Town northeast of Miyun County about 120 kilometers (75 miles) from Beijing, the Simatai Great Wall stretches about five kilometers (three miles) from the Wangjinglou Tower in the east and connects to the Jinshanling Great Wall in the west. It has 35 beacon towers. Constructed under the supervision of Qi Jiguang, a famous general in the Ming Dynasty ( ), it is the only part of the Great Walls that still has the original appearance of the Ming Dynasty. 15h: Arrive Simatai and start to walk for 10 km on the Wall up to Jinshanling. Located about eight kilometers (five miles) southeast of the Bakeshiying Township in Luanping County in Hebei Province, the Jinshanling Great Wall is the best preserved part of the Great Wall with many original features. It starts from the Wangjinglou Tower in the east and ends at Longyukou in the west and stretches about 10 kilometers (six miles). The Jinshanling Great Wall is situated on the Big and Small Jinshanling, hence its name. Based on huge stone bars, the Great Wall was then made by huge bricks, each of which weighed about 12 kilograms (26 pounds). It has five main passes and 67 watchtowers. Every 100 meters (328 feet), there is an enemy tower each of which is about ten meters (33 feet) high. Featuring various structures and having various functions, those watchtowers are either one tiered or two-tiered. On the first floor there are some windows for shooting arrows. The roofs of the towers are many and varied, flat, arched, quadrangular or octagonal. Some are used to store weapons and hay. Others are used as soldiers' bedrooms. Among them, the most celebrated are the Big and Small Jinshan Watchtowers. 8/10/2009 Proposition 1 2

4 Jinshan Hotel Located 800 meters (875 yards) to Jinshanling Great Wall, Jinshan Hotel is a two star hotel, the only foreign-related hotel in Jinshanling Great Wall scenic area. It is only a twenty-minute walk from the hotel to Jinshanling Great Wall. The hotel features the architecture of Ming ( ) and Qing ( ) Dynasties. It has 62 rooms to accommodate about 130 guests. Both the domestic and international long-distance calls can be placed in the rooms. The meeting room in the hotel is equipped with broad-band access. Jinshan Restaurant in the hotel serves Chinese and Western styles of cuisine. It can receive over 300 people at the same time. There is an open square outside the restaurant. Equipped with professional stage lights and acoustic equipment, it is an ideal place to hold a disco party. Friday 2 nd October h30/9h30 30/9h30: Breakfast in the hotel 10h30: Depart by bus to Chengde (1h30) Nestled in the mountains, Chengde is quite beautiful with fresh, clean air, lakes, gardens and mountains. It is a seemingly untouched part of a country that has been marked by capitalism and industrial plants; unlike other cities, Chengde is relatively uncluttered of skyscrapers and factories. 12h: Transfer to a local restaurant for lunch 14h: Visit of the Summer Palace of Jehol, the Small Potala and the Temple of Universal Peace The Chengde Summer Mountain Resort, the Largest Imperial Garden in the World A favorite destination of Qing dynasty emperors, Chengde is home to the Mountain Resort. Built in the early 18th century, the Mountain Resort was the summer home for emperors and their families as they looked to avoid the heat of Beijing. The translation for the Mountain Resort, or "Bishu Shanzhuang," literally means "Escaping-the-heat Mountain Villa." 8/10/2009 Proposition 1 4

5 The Eight Outer Temples of Chengde, Han and Tibetan Architecture Located just outside the Mountain Resort are the Eight Outer Temples, which actually consist of 12 temples, built in the late 18th century. Each of the temples was built following the architectural style of various Chinese ethnic groups, including the Mongolians, Tibetans and Han Chinese. Of these 12 temples, only six are open to the public: Putuo Zongcheng Temple, Puning Temple, Pule Temple, Anyuan Temple, Xumi Fuschouzhi Temple and Puyou Temple. Putuo Zongcheng Temple and Puning Temple are among the most popular of the Eight Outer Temples. Putuo Zongcheng, the largest temple, is modeled after the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet. Puning Temple, or the "Temple of Universal Peace," houses the largest wooden Buddha, Avalokitesvara, in the world. Putuo Zongchengzhi Temple is located to the north of Mountain Resort of Chengde. It is the biggest and the most magnificent building in Eight Outer Temples. Built in 1767 imitating the style of the Potala Palace, the temple is also named 'little Potala Palace'. For another reason that 'Putuo Zongchengzhi' is a Tibetan language meaning 'Potala Palace' in Chinese. The halls and pavilions in it were designed to naturally strew on hillside according to the hypsography. The Big Red Platform is the principle construction of the temple. The platform and the three halls on it are all with the copper gold tiles roof. Also located to the north of the Mountain Resort of Chengde is Puning temple which was built in It is also known as 'Big Buddha Temple', for a big wooden Buddhist statue housed there. The Buddhist statue is unusual, being of Kwan-yin, standing meters (approx feet) tall, with a thousand eyes and a thousand arms. It is made with five kinds of lignum - pine, cypress, elm, fir and linden, and is one of the biggest preserved wooden statues in China. 8/10/2009 Proposition 1 5

6 18h Transfer to the Yurt hotel Mongolian Yurts Holiday Inn, inside the royal rark itself. This hotel, no relation to the international chain, is made up of 30 yurts. They may not be the type used by Genghis Khan for one thing, they are made of concrete but they can sleep two or three people and have modern touches like television sets. Located inside the Mountain Resort, with its quiet and clean air, this makes for a peaceful and unusual stay. The restaurant continues the Mongolian theme so expect plenty of mutton on the menu. 19h: Pre-dinner cocktail in the courtyard (1h Open-Bar) 20h: Dinner in the Big Yurt & Mongolian dances 21h30: Evening around a bonfire 22h30: End of the evening and overnight in the Mongolian Yurts Holiday Inn Saturday 3 rd October h/9h /9h: Breakfast in the hotel 9h: Continuation of the city sightseeing: Temple of Sumeru, Happiness and Longevity, Temple of Universal Happiness The Temple of Sumeru Happiness and Longevity (Xumifushoumiao). This temple was built by Emperor Qianlong in 1780 after the model of the Tibetan Tashilunpo Temple at Xigaze, and its name is a direct translation of the Tibetan name Temple of Complete Happiness and Longevity. The year 1780 was the 70th birthday of Emperor Qianlong, so the celebrations were held on a larger scale than usual. In addition to the Mongolian nobles and princes, imperial ministers and their retainers, and foreign envoys that attended the celebrations, the Sixth Panchen Lama Erdeni also came from Tibet to pay his respects. To receive his distinguished guest in style. Emperor Qianlong had the temple especially constructed. The Temple of Universal Happiness (Pulesi). This temple is also known as the Round Pavilion and was built in 1766 in honor of the representatives of the Kazak, Khalkhas and other ethnic peoples who came to Chengde for audiences with Emperor Qianlong. The main building, the Pavilion of the Brilliance of the Rising Sun (Xuguangge), is famous for its caisson ceiling and unique wooden mandala, the only one of its kind in China outside Tibet. Eight colorful glazed pagodas erected on lotus flower pedestals once topped the temple's outer walls, but now only one of them remains. Traditionally they are said to represent the lotus flowers that appeared at every step taken by Sakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism, when he was very young. 8/10/2009 Proposition 1 6

The market deals mainly in antiques and arts and crafts. It also has the reputation of being the most inexpensive antiques market in Beijing, attracting foreign and domestic tourists. Whether you want to sightsee, window-shop or buy collectors' items, there really is something for everyone. Even Hilary Clinton has famously shopped at Panjiayuan. With so many stalls selling similar items, this is a great place for bargain hunters. And although there are genuine articles to be found here, it is hard to tell the real deal from the fake, particularly if you aren't an expert. Panjiayuan market covers an area of 4.85 hectares of land and accommodates over 3,000 stalls. 11 Terms and Conditions - All tour participants shall ensure that they comply with valid visa to China, - Tour is based on seat-in coach with minimum number of guest with 20 guests; Forceten reserves the right to cancel any departure with less than20 persons and will inform all registered clients 7 days prior to departure according to HKTIC's requirement. Clients can choose with a non-interest refund of their paid deposit or a private charter tour with additional cost based on number of departing guests - The Organizers Liabilities The Organizers, the travel Agent and the Tour Operator shall not under any circumstances be liable, in contract, tort or otherwise, for: a. any of the expenses, damages or losses incurred or sustained by any tour participant which arise from or as a result of the delay or cancellation of any scheduled flight; b. any of the expenses, damages or losses incurred or sustained by any tour participant which arise from, or as a result of changes in the travel programmes, routes or timetables provided that in the case of such changes which result in a decrease in the cost to the Organizers, an amount equal and limited to such decrease only, shall be refunded to the tour participants. c. any of the expenses, damages or losses incurred or sustained by any tour participant which arise from or as a result of the missing of the flight due to the tour participant s failure to comply with airline check-in and boarding procedures, and/or failure to comply with visa and health requirements of the countries they intend to visit. - Other Liabilities: It is expressly declared that all the airlines concerned, their servants, agents and affiliates are not liable, in contract, tort or otherwise for any loss, damage or injury howsoever caused to the tour participants during the time in transit. The passenger ticket in use by such airlines, when issued, shall constitute the sole contract between the airlines and the purchaser of these tickets and/or the tour participants and the tour participants shall be deemed to have full notice of the terms and conditions of such contractors. It is also expressly declared that the Organizers, the Travel Agent and the Tour Operator act only as agents for the owners or contractors providing the means of transportation or other services during the course of the tour. All ticket for such means of transportation or other services are issued subject to any and all items and conditions under which services are offered or provided, and the issuance and acceptance of such tickets shall be deemed to be consent by the tour participants to the further condition that the Organizers and/or the Travel Agent and/or Tour Operator shall not be or become liable or responsible in any way for any loss, damage or injury to the tour participant, the proper effect of such tour participant howsoever caused by such means of transportation or other services. - Force Majeure ~ The Organizer has the sole and absolute discretion to cancel or shorten the duration of any tour in the event of force majeure hostilities, accident of other circumstances beyond the control of the Organizers which render it necessary in the Organizers reasonable opinion that such steps be taken. The Organizers shall be relieved from all liabilities and obligations resulting therefore, upon notice to the tour participants and full refund of any amount paid for the tour or the unused portions of the tour, as appropriate.
