and Magic 2017 marks Inghams 20-year anniversary of offering winter holidays to Finnish Lapland, and as we look towards our 21st season, we are immensely proud of the exceptional feedback we receive from our guests year after year, who tell us how they will remember their magical experiences in this remote and fascinating country for a lifetime. This brochure is designed to showcase everything on offer, and hopefully inspire you for your next winter adventure. Downhill and cross-country skiers are well catered for and the quiet slopes make Lapland an excellent choice for those wishing to try skiing for the first time. But there are so many more snow adventures to be had: By day, husky sleds, reindeer sleighs and snowmobiles offer very different and exciting ways to venture further into the wintry scenery. By night, the chance to witness the truly magical spectacle of the Northern Lights is at the top of most people s lists with the ultimate experience being a stay in a thermal glass igloo with a 360 degree view of the night sky. We can of course arrange this for you. Or new for Winter 2017/18, try a romantic night in an Aurora Cabin relax and gaze up at the stars through the glass roof window from the comfort of your cabin bed. Our inclusive Northern Lights Adventure Weeks staying at the Muotka Wilderness Lodge near Saariselkä were also new to our programme last year and following excellent feedback, we are pleased to now offer both the Holiday Club and Gielas Hotels as your accommodation choice in Saariselkä for our 2-centre combination. In November and December, Christmas really does come early for children and grandchildren with our ever popular Santa Breaks and the promise of a private family meeting with Santa Claus himself. For 2017, we have extended our programme with Santa Breaks now available from Sunday 26 November right up until Christmas Eve. If you re looking for more than just a short break, our 7 night holidays are available from the beginning of December right through to Easter, giving you plenty of time to immerse yourself in the silence and breathtaking beauty of the scenery. We all look forward to assisting you with your plans for your next snow adventure. Paul Carter Inghams Chief Executive Officer paul@inghams.co.uk Call Visit inghams.co.uk/lapland 3

Welcome to Lapland n Escape the Rat Race The first things that strike you about Finnish Lapland in winter are the peace and quiet, the seemingly endless wilderness and sense of space, and the glorious variations in the scenery, with the ever-changing colours of the light. This is the perfect place for that modern cliché, the digital detox break. For escaping the crowds, the noise and bustle of the city, the stresses of everyday working life, and exchanging them for the freshest air in Europe, tranquil open spaces and quiet snow-laden forests. Finland s sauna culture is an integral part of the escape and around it have grown some excellent spa and wellness centres in many hotels, and many of our log cabins and apartments have private en suite saunas of their own. Tromsø Kirkenes Activities & Adventures Against this tranquil background however, there is also huge excitement to be had in Lapland, and the best of these adventures work hand in hand with the scenery. From winter walks, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing to longer safaris by reindeer sleigh, husky-sled or snowmobile, there are so many ways to explore the wilderness and National Park scenery surrounding our resorts. The panel on the far right introduces the established favourites, with further details on the ensuing pages, and pre-booking is recommended, to ensure we have everything set up and ready for your arrival. Wildlife & Not-so-wild-life Finnish Lapland covers a whole third of Finland, but less than 4% of Finns live here that s only 200,000 people in an area the size of Scotland and Wales combined. As a result, Arctic wildlife is plentiful, and enjoys National Park protection across huge swathes of the land. You may come across moose, Arctic foxes, snowy owls, hares, willow grouse or ptarmigan, though you ll need to keep your eyes peeled, as so many species have a white winter coat or plumage. Also roaming free in huge numbers are the reindeer, and you can visit a Sámi reindeer farm. Huskies are the other Lapland favourite, and all our resorts feature a choice of safaris with these wonderful animals. 6 Accommodation Choice Over our 20 winters in Lapland, we have built up an excellent range of accommodation choices for Inghams guests, and equally importantly, wonderfully close relationships with all the key hoteliers and log cabin providers in our three chosen resorts. Together, we have seen Lapland grow from being barely on the radar of UK guests, to its position today on many people s bucket-list of places they simply must visit at some point, and rightly so. On our partners behalf therefore, as well as all our own team, we look forward to welcoming you to Lapland. Mauri and Sanna of Ylläs Log Cabins receiving their Inghams Select Award Inghams Select Accommodation We are often asked which are our favourite hotels or log cabins, but feel that actually the more important thing is which are the favourites of our guests themselves. Where do they go back year after year, to be welcomed back as friends, and write us glowing letters about how welcome they were made to feel? The Inghams Select citation shown alongside the star rating of an accommodation answers exactly this question for you. They are not all luxury hotels, but are the places that have stood out over a period of time, offering high standards of service and comfort appropriate to their star rating, a friendly welcome, and consistently good guest feedback over recent seasons. The indoor pool at the Ylläs Saaga Hotel & Apartments Our Star Ratings & Hotel Choices Finland does not have an official standard accommodation rating system, so we show our own star rating for each property, based on our own senior management inspections as well as guest feedback. It can be used as a guide to compare between properties in this programme, but not to compare against any other international hotel star rating system. Lapland Log Cabins & Apartments Many guests prefer the sense of freedom and independence provided by having your own place for the week, with the space to spread out particularly if travelling as a family and the facilities to self-cater if you so wish. Our apartments are generally modern Scandinavian in style, and many have their own en suite private saunas as a welcome addition to the bathroom. In some cases, apartments form part of a wider hotel complex, and where this is the case, you will often have the choice of taking the apartment on a half board or self-catering basis. For many guests though, it is the classic look, feel, space and charm of a traditional Lappish log cabin which makes these not simply a place to stay, but an intrinsic part of the whole holiday experience. In all sizes from one to six bedrooms, with round log or flat shiplap timber walls (both styles are common), an open fireplace or log-burner to provide warmth and atmosphere, a cosy lounge, a kitchenette for meals and generally a private sauna of their own these features combine to make the log cabin a very distinctively Laplandstyle home from home. A Night To Remember Whether it s for a honeymoon, anniversary, birthday, or just because you have always wanted to see these very special places for yourselves, there is nothing quite like the experience of staying in a glass igloo under the dancing Northern Lights, or in the other-worldly surroundings of the famous Lainio SnowHotel. New for Winter 2017/18, guests can also sleep under the skies in a glass-roofed Aurora Cabin. See pages for details. 6

n the Know! When, what and where for the best experiences in Finnish Lapland Three Seasons in One Winter Even within the 5-month winter season, Lapland s entire character changes with the passing months, each having its own particular beauty, as you can see below. December to mid-january Kaamos is the Finnish name for this period, when the sun barely rises above the horizon. This atmospheric twilight or Blue Light period is when candles and lanterns add to the magic, and a feeling of peace pervades the tranquil landscape. There are still at least 5 hours of daylight, with rose-coloured skies reflecting off the snow. Daylight ca. 5-6 hours Approx. temperatures -5 to -15 C Snow depth c cm Mid-January to February Also very popular with Inghams guests, this mid-season period is equally evocative, when days pass in a gentle palette of rose-coloured dawns and dusks, and the aptly named ghost trees bow into bizarre snow-laden shapes. This is a time when our resorts are still not at their busiest and you will have them largely to yourselves. Daylight ca. 6-8 hours Approx. temperatures -5 to -20 C Snow depth c.45-50cm March/April Many guests, like the Finns themselves, prefer this final third of the season, when snow crystals sparkle in the bright sunlight, and nature is bathed in a surreal orange glow. Daylight hours increase rapidly at this time of winter, and the downhill slopes and cross-country ski trails become a hive of activity in the spring sunshine. Daylight ca hours Approx. temperatures -1 to -15 C Snow depth c.55-65cm The above temperatures and snow-depths are a guide only, as temperatures can change radically during the course of a week at any time of winter, and indeed occasionally during the course of a single day. What s the currency? In Finnish Lapland it s the Euro. In the more remote areas, cash-points are few but credit cards (except Amex) are widely accepted. Can I bring the children? Yes of course. We know that they will love the magic and excitement of it all and we look forward to welcoming them. However, we do not recommend these holidays for infants under 2 years of age. What to wear? Most of the time, normal ski clothing will be sufficient. In addition, the hire of warm thermal suits is included in the cost of our Lapland Santa Breaks and, on our 7-night Lapland holidays they can be pre-booked or hired locally if you don t own your own ski wear. Thermal suits cost 20-29/boots per week - see online for full details and child prices. Our suggested clothing checklist f Warm ski suit or rented thermal oversuits f Long thermal underwear f Several light layers of under garments f Warm socks and roomy thermal boots f Warm hats and gloves or mittens f Scarf or fleece neck-warmer f Swimwear for the sauna unless you re brave enough to go au naturel! f Ski goggles are handy, and/or sunglasses for the dazzle of the sun on snow Worth bringing the camera? After a few short days you ll return with memories that will last a lifetime. However, extreme cold can affect some cameras so do dig out that instruction book. Camera batteries do discharge more quickly in the cold so bring plenty of spares. We know you ll have lots more questions about these unique holidays, so don t hesitate to call our experts on Call Visit inghams.co.uk/lapland 9

After a 2 year gap and missing the magic of my first experience, I returned and have stayed for a further 7 wonderful seasons. I have an amazing team and we are always thrilled to be able to help others experience this beautiful place to its fullest and enjoy their adventure here as much as we do. We re all looking forward to welcoming you! 12 Family Time Time is precious in today s high-speed, high-stress world, and none more so than family time. The chance to step off the treadmill for a short while, to draw breath, to spend time together, building the library of shared memories that bind the family, and which last so much longer than the break itself. This is what a holiday in Lapland does brilliantly. Every new adventure shared has a story to it that goes into the family archive, to be re-told again and again, becoming richer, funnier and more colourful with each re-telling. So it s good to know that virtually all the many activities, excursions and adventures we offer can be enjoyed by children of all ages from 3 or 4 years upwards every bit as much as by their parents. So many experiences are guaranteed to capture children s imagination. Starting with the basics, tobogganing is always a favourite, as are snowman-building and snowball fights. But have they tried kick-sledding, skiing or snowboarding? Or moving up the excitement scale, riding on a reindeer sleigh or husky sled? How about being towed in a heated buggy behind the guide, while Mum and Dad drive their own snowmobile? Don t worry about the cold - we offer the option to book Arctic thermal over-suits and warm snow boots for all adults and children over 2 years old (as these breaks are not ideally suited for infants) The Lapland list is almost too long to pack everything in even to one week, but it means you can pick and choose, and design your holiday around the things that most appeal. Our 7-night holidays run from December to April, with some great value child discounts available (see table opposite). The other option is to treat the family to an unforgettable short Santa Break in late November or December and get the whole family well and truly in the festive spirit in the run-up to Christmas, the highlight of which is sure to be your guaranteed private family meeting with Santa Claus himself. As for accommodation, your choice runs from large family hotel rooms to well-equipped apartments, and for many the ultimate choice your own cosy log-cabin to come back home to after each day s excitement. 12

Night Magic The inky, star-filled skies of Lapland are spectacular in themselves. But when the Northern Lights appear, the darkness is transformed into living waves of colour, with shapes and swirls dancing and spiralling across the sky like a choreographed light show. Often in multiple shades of green, the aurora can also display vivid reds, purples and blues, in a constantly changing heavenly kaleidoscope. All our destinations in this brochure are located at the optimum latitude, north of the Arctic Circle, in prime locations to see one of the greatest natural wonders of the world, with this coming winter fortuitously seeing the height of an exceptionally active solar cycle. The best time to see the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, is from November to April. They generally appear between around 7pm and 2am, when the skies are dark and cloudless, and there is little artificial light pollution. Some hotels will organise wake-up calls if the lights appear, and have the know-how regarding the best spots to see them down to a fine art. In some of the smaller villages and resorts, they turn the streetlights off after 10pm, specifically to eliminate local light pollution. The ultimate experience is to stay in a luxurious thermal igloo, where you will have a cosy, warm, 360-degree view of the Lapland night sky (see page 27). Or try one of the new glass-roofed Aurora Cabins in Saariselkä (see page 28), take a Northern Lights husky excursion in Levi, or join one of our guided snowshoe walks or snowmobile safaris. Scientists attribute the phenomenon of the Northern Lights to the collision of particles of charged solar energy with atoms in the high altitude atmosphere. The more romantic explanation from the indigenous Sámi people is that the lights represent the souls of their departed ancestors flying across the heavens. Either way, you cannot fail to be impressed by arguably the greatest natural show on earth. 14

NORTHERN LIGHTS Where to watch The Greatest Show on Earth Levi / page 40 There are so many ways here to enjoy the Northern Lights take an evening husky safari or horse-drawn sleigh-ride, head into the winter landscape with snowshoes or by snowmobile, or spend the night in one of Levi s own thermal glass igloos. Ask The Experts I have been lucky enough to visit all of our resorts so can tell you about most of our accommodation and excursion choices, especially my personal highlight - spending a night in a glass igloo, watching the Northern Lights dance across the sky!! Ylläs / page 36 A favourite with fans of the Northern Lights, as the resort turns all its streetlights off after 10pm, to ensure the best possible aurora viewing conditions. Or take a evening snowmobile safari or horse-sleigh ride. 16 Call of the Wild The huskies are impatient and ready to go. As soon as they are harnessed to their sleds, the sound of excited barking fills the air. The low winter sun throws shafts of golden light through the trees in a magical way, and it is easy to imagine the great journeys of the past, when husky-drawn sleds were the only means of exploring vast distances above the Arctic Circle. After some essential instruction, you meet your team of huskies. Once on your sled, the dogs are released and suddenly you are off and away, in line along the trails, speeding through the wilderness and weaving through deep forest as the sun winks between the trees. The huskies are in their element as the sled glides across the pristine snow. Steering from your stance on the sled s runners requires some concentration, but you cannot fail to be mesmerised by the scenery and feel at one with the natural landscape all around you. The snow sparkles, trees seemingly frozen in time are transformed into eerie snow ghosts, and the soft pale light changes with every glance. Some of our husky partners have more than 100 dogs - usually a mix of the traditional Siberian husky and the high endurance Alaskan huskies which are the best for racing. The dog handlers know every dog s name and character, and some have competed in top international races such as the Finnmarksløpet, the longest dog-sled race in Europe, covering 1,000 challenging kilometres around Norway s North Cape. Our husky safaris in contrast, have been tailor-made to suit all ages, experience and fitness levels, and in addition to our popular shorter safaris, this winter we have introduced half-day trips and an evening safari to search for the Northern Lights. Alternatively, if you are already a fan of the whole husky experience, maybe it s time you tried our exciting new two-day adventure in Levi, with an overnight stay in a wilderness lodge. Whatever your choice, the sheer exhilaration of mushing through Lapland s mystical wilderness will remain a lifetime memory. 16

HUSKY SAFARIS Husky Safaris - your choice of resorts Saariselkä / page 32 Saariselkä has a Mini-Safari, including a 2km safari and a full briefing on driving your own sled, and a longer 7km Super-Safari, also driving your own sled. Lapland Fact File All huskies are born with ice-blue eyes, but these can change to brown within weeks of birth. The even more distinctive look of one brown and one blue eye is also not uncommon amongst pure Siberian huskies. Ylläs / page 36 Your choices here, all driving your own sled and husky team, range from short 2km Mini-Safaris, through the 10km Super-Safari, to our Half-Day Adventure covering 20km of Lapland scenery. Levi / page 40 Levi offers our widest range, from 2km Mini-Safaris to 8km or half-day 15km trips driving your own sled, plus evening trips in search of the Northern Lights. Overnight Husky Adventure / page 41 Our overnight husky adventure from Levi is a true once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with two days sledding, meals and a night in a wilderness hut all included. 18 Wilderness Riders The vast, untouched expanse of snow ahead seemed endless, and it was immensely tempting to twist the throttle just that little bit further, just to thrill to the engine s deep and throaty roar. It was late January, with the sun low on the horizon, giving a pinky golden tinge to the snow-laden trees, contrasting with a pale blue light in the shadows. The scenery changed constantly, from deep pine forest where the trail weaved though snow-sculptured trees, across fells and moorland, to the wide open expanses of frozen lakes and rivers. Our snowmobiling adventure began from the minute we arrived at the start-point. First we were kitted out in some serious winter gear, including complete thermal suits and boots, thick gloves and insulated helmets. There was no question of being cold, and the snowmobiles also have hand warmers and comfortable padded seats. Then came a thorough safety briefing and driving demonstration. Stable on the snow in any terrain, the snowmobiles are surprisingly easy to drive, and all you need is a valid driving licence and a desire to explore. Following our guide in single file we set off, tentatively at first, becoming steadily more familiar with our snowmobiles as we soon left all civilisation behind and followed a trail into the snowy wilderness. It became easy to imagine the indigenous Sami nomads crossing this land, originally with their herds of reindeer, but latterly making good use of these amazing machines. The two-hour trip covering some 25km took us through a varied landscape. Pausing for a break halfway, we cut the engines. The silence immediately flooded over us, feeling even more intense with the sudden contrast to the throb of our motors, and giving a true sense of being in the middle of nowhere. Starting up again, the exhilaration intensified on the homeward run, and we were left unanimously feeling that this was an adventure when once was not enough. But how to top this first experience? It may just have to be an evening safari, in search of the magical Northern Lights. 18

SNOWMOBILE SAFARIS Your choice of Snowmobile Adventures Saariselkä / page 32 Choose from daytime family trips or more adventurous adult-only evening safaris, with longer safaris available locally by arrangement with your Inghams Rep. n Our Guests Own Words The Inghams reps were very friendly and helpful and gave us lots of useful information, especially about the Northern Lights which we were lucky enough to see twice! It s a beautiful resort with plenty to do. We really enjoyed the night time snowmobile safari! Ylläs / page 36 25km daytime safaris or evening adventures In Search of the Northern Lights are both available to pre-book in Ylläs, and there are longer trips bookable locally in resort. Levi / page 40 Here too there is a choice of daytime or evening, family or adult trips, and 28km or longer trips, to cater for all levels of adventure and experience. Dr. D. 20 Dashing through the Snow Elegant and majestic, the reindeer epitomises Lapland in winter every bit as much as do the Northern Lights and the magical landscape. There are more poro (Finnish for reindeer) than people here, and all roam freely across the tundra. For the Sámi herdsmen they are the core of their centuries-old traditional way of life, and their influence and importance extends far beyond transporting Santa on Christmas Eve! To see them for the first time with their soulful white faces, often impressive antlers, and soft, wide hooves that grip on the snow, is quite a sight. But to ride in a reindeer sleigh through the snowy fells and forests feels as if you have entered the secret world of Narnia through a magic wardrobe. At least until your reindeer decides to pause for a snack on some tasty lichen under the snow...some do have a stubborn streak. We have a variety of reindeer sleigh-ride excursions for you to choose from, with short or longer rides, some fascinating visits to working Sámi farms, and occasionally dropping in at a traditional Lappish kota tepee. Visiting a local reindeer farm gives you an evocative picture of this traditional Sámi lifestyle, in which reindeer play a central part, with their leather and fur used for clothing and for sleeping on, their meat a mainstay of Lapland s cuisine, and antlers used for knife-handles and carving into jewellery. Every year the reindeer are all ear-marked, which is the Sámi way of claiming ownership in a land with no fences, so you will hear about suopunkki, which means lassoing - an essential Sámi skill. Reindeer also feature on major ceremonial occasions and you may see some elaborate harnesses, which complement the bright traditional Sámi clothing. Amongst the many fascinating facts about reindeer is their fondness for mushrooms, which they come across when foraging. There is one variety, akin to the infamous magic mushroom, that can turn reindeer into hullo poro, which is Finnish for crazy reindeer, a story that your Sámi hosts always greatly enjoy telling! 20

REINDEER SLEIGH RIDES Reindeer and where to find them Saariselkä / page 32 Saariselkä has a combined Reindeer Farm and Safari excursion, which is a great introduction not only to the reindeer themselves, but also the Sámi herders who run the farm. Lapland Fact File Here s a handy tip from a Sámi friend of ours on how to avoid upsetting your hosts: Never ask a reindeer herder how many reindeer he owns! It s considered the height of bad manners - the equivalent in UK of asking a new acquaintance how much they earn. Ylläs / page 36 The Sámi reindeer farm we visit from Ylläs also has an art gallery and small museum, making for a fascinating visit, in addition to a choice of shorter or longer reindeer sleigh-rides. Levi / page 40 This 2-hour excursion includes coffee and cake by the open fire in a traditional kota hut, in addition to the sleigh-ride itself and a chance to feed the reindeer. Want to know more? 22 Meet the Locals Surviving in an untamed land in the challenging Arctice Circle climate has shaped the fascinating history and culture of the indigenous Sámi people across the entire north of Scandinavia. Roaming the vast open spaces of the tundra, the Sámi nomads would travel with their reindeer herds, keeping warm at night with open fires in their traditional tepees, known as kota in Finland. Many of these ancient Sámi traditions, with reindeer farming always at their heart, remain a way of life today. Ambling gently through the wilderness by reindeer sleigh, steering huskies through the fells, or stopping for a warming drink in a Sámi kota are all a quintessential part of any Lapland experience. The Northern Lights play a strong part in ancient Sámi folklore and they have many stories and legends about the phenomenon and meaning of the Aurora Borealis. Living off the land has shaped the culture of art and handicrafts for the Sámi, as well as their many practical skills. A unique Sámi Museum at the Inari village on the shores of a huge sacred lake is a fascinating excursion from Saariselkä, where you will learn about how the Sámi have so successfully survived for generations, their hunting skills, the art of ice-fishing, and their rich traditional folklore. Traditional Sámi costumes are beautifully bright and colourful, with many small details that relate to each individual s own family history. For ceremonial occasions, everyone - huskies and reindeer included - are dressed in multi-coloured outfits and harnesses, which shine even brighter against the pure white of the snow. Reindeer meat has headlined the Sámi diet for centuries, but the lakes and forest provide a wealth of other culinary delights. Wood grouse, hare and willow ptarmigan come from the forest, the Arctic Sea provides monster-sized crabs, and the rivers and lakes provide a choice of salmon, perch and pike. You will also come across the delights of local lingonberries and cloudberries, and even a Lapland potato that grows in the unique conditions provided by the summer s midnight sun. 22

SÁMI CULTURE Where to discover Sámi culture Saariselkä / page 32 Take a trip to Lake Inari, the sacred lake of the Inari Sámi for generations, and now home to the excellent museum at Siida, which does a wonderful job of preserving and displaying the history, art, culture and crafts of the Sámi people. Lapland Fact File Lapland is sometimes described as a country but in fact has no national borders of its own. Its area covers the regions roamed for millennia by the nomadic Sámi people and their reindeer herds, and straddles northern Norway, Sweden, Finland and a corner of Russia. Ylläs / page 36 Visit one of our absolute favourite Sámi reindeer farms, hear stories of the traditional reindeer herders way of life, and enjoy a sleigh-ride while you are here. Levi / page 40 There is an excellent exhibition of Sámi life and history at Koutalaki on the summit of Levi Fell, and easily reached by gondola from the village centre. 24 DOWNHILL SKIING Downhill Dreaming Skiing in Finnish Lapland is very different to skiing in the traditional Alpine resorts. The wide open pistes are generally completely uncrowded and lift queues are almost unheard of. By day you ll enjoy magnificent views over the winter wonderland with its frozen lakes and waterfalls. By night, when many of the slopes are floodlit, there s even a chance of skiing beneath a fabulous display of the Northern Lights! This is an excellent place for first-timers - adults and children alike. The slopes are not too challenging and classes are small with friendly English-speaking instructors. It s great value too, especially if you choose one of our Learn to Ski or Board packages, full details of which are on our website. But remember to leave time to join in our many activities such as a husky or reindeer safari. Your in a nutshell guide to the slopes Levi / page 40 Finland s most popular ski resort, Levi has 44km of skiing, a snow-park for snowboarders, two gondolas, a couple of new high-speed quad chairlifts and seven mountain restaurants. Ylläs / page 36 Ylläs ski resort is higher than Levi and mainly above the treeline, with 53km of pistes and a gondola that even has its own sauna cabin! Enjoy the convenience of ski-in / ski-out on the Ylläs Saaga side of the fell. Saariselkä / page 32 Saariselkä s slopes are more limited, but ideal for beginners. Book our excellent value starter-packs from only 155, including a week s lift-pass, tuition, and ski/board & boot-hire. 24

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING The Sound of Silence There is no better way to explore the beauty of Lapland than by cross-country skiing. Here you ll see more cross-country skiers than cars - a mixture of holidaymakers and locals for whom it is part of the way of life, on their way to collect their shopping! Around the resorts and throughout the national parks, there are hundreds of kilometres of marked trails suitable for beginners and experts alike, with many scenic circular routes connecting views and points of interest. Some trails are even floodlit at night and our guests have reported seeing Arctic fox and snowy owls. Which resort for cross-country skiing? Saariselkä / page 32 Some of our cross-country beginner packages in Saariselkä will take you past reindeer and husky farms and even to abandoned mine buildings from the gold rush of the 1860 s. Ylläs / page 36 The top pick for many Inghams cross-country skiing guests, Ylläs has 330km of wellmaintained trails, including 14 ski-track cafés and 25 campfire shelters, where you can heat up your own food or drink - a typical outing for the locals. Levi / page 40 In Levi the 230km of trails offer plenty of opportunities for café breaks, and there are also overnight trips available here, staying the night in a basic wilderness hut. If you are already a cross-country enthusiast, Lapland is probably already on your must try list. But if you re new to it rest assured that you ll find the equipment light and easy to use. And once you ve caught the cross-country bug, we know your first trip will not be your last! Call Visit inghams.co.uk/lapland 25

A Night to Remember As good as the hotels, apartments and log cabins here undoubtedly are, sometimes it is worth splashing out on an overnight stay that is uniquely Lapland. The experience of a night under the Northern Lights in a thermal glass igloo, or snug inside a hotel built from scratch every winter from nothing but snow and ice, is the icing on the cake for many guests. Glass igloos have been a feature in Lapland for some time now. Combining the 360-degree outlook to the night skies that you would have outdoors, with the warmth and comfort that you certainly would not have if you stayed out too long in the Arctic Circle night, was simply a stroke of genius. Time and again over recent winters, guests have told us this was the highlight of the holiday, and even if by chance the Northern Lights don t show up, watching the evening light change colours and then going to sleep beneath the stars is nonetheless a magical experience. Stay in Lainio SnowHotel in contrast, and the enchantment is all indoors. The clever, moody lighting of the snow, the ice-sculptures and wall-carvings, and the way the lights glow through the solid ice furniture, creates a mystical, other-worldly feel to a stay here. At the same time, Lainio SnowVillage is an astonishing feat of engineering. Every winter, it takes over 27,000 cubic metres of snow, chunks of river-ice up to a metre thick and weighing up to 3 tons, and a team of 50 people working flat out for 350 hours, to create its impressive 4,500 square metres. Guests can now add to their experiences with a stay in an Aurora Cabin a north-facing wooden cabin with a heated glass roof window above the bed, so you can relax in the warmth and gaze up at the sky. Each of our three Lapland resorts has at least one of these very special experiences up its sleeve. Saariselkä has Aurora Cabins and is only 15km from Kakslauttanen Igloo Village and Ylläs is only half an hour from Lainio SnowHotel. Levi offers the choice of all experiences with its own glass igloos, Aurora Cabins and Lainio SnowHotel only 45km away. 26

FINNISH LAPLAND Saariselkä Our most northerly resort, with a friendly frontier atmosphere Saariselkä is our most northerly destination, close to the Russian border and just a few hours from the Arctic Ocean. This delightfully uncommercialised resort has a unique frontier atmosphere and is easy-going, relaxed and friendly. It lies deep in the heart of the native Sámi homeland, with their herds of reindeer roaming freely in the nearby forests. Adjacent to Urho Kekkonen National Park, this unspoilt natural wilderness has made Saariselkä one of Lapland s favourite and best cross-country ski areas. You can glide along the freshly-prepared tracks as the sun dips behind the pine trees, throwing the landscape into a rainbow of colours. There is plenty of wildlife to look out for, and you may be lucky enough to glimpse the occasional moose, reindeer, arctic hare or white willow grouse as you ski. Ask The Experts I know our hotels in Saariselkä really well and have been lucky enough to try out all the Big Three Lapland adventures on husky, snowmobile and reindeer safaris, and can recommend them all! Sophie Spencer Reservations Supervisor Our range of activities here runs from favourites such as snowmobile, reindeer and husky safaris to a quiet, contemplative snowshoe walk in daytime or evening, the chance to try panning for gold, and a scenic excursion to the Sámi Museum at Inari Village is particularly recommended. If you are searching for the Northern Lights, our wilderness dinner in a traditional Sámi kota is in a prime viewing spot, and being this far north, the vast clear skies are renowned for frequent aurora sightings. Our choice of accommodation is equally atmospheric, with everything from cosy log cabins to modern apartments or a spa hotel. Even more romantic and unique is an overnight stay in a thermal glass igloo at the nearby Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort or Aurora Cabin in the village. 36 FINNISH LAPLAND Ylläs An unspoiled winter wonderland, set amidst magnificent National Park scenery Smaller than its near neighbour Levi in terms of actual village size and amenities, the appeal of Ylläs lies in its many other virtues. Chief amongst these is its location, on the edge of the unspoilt wilderness of Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park - Finland s third largest - inviting you to experience the calm, quiet beauty of Lapland. Heading out in all directions is another of Ylläs key attractions - its well prepared network of some 330km of crosscountry skiing trails. Whether on skis, snowshoes or in winter walking boots, it takes no time at all to be out of the village and away into the outback, with forests, fells, frozen lakes and rivers to explore to your heart s content. Come in December or January for the magically atmospheric kaamos light of midwinter, or from mid-february to Easter to see it all in sunshine. If the Northern Lights are on your wish-list, Ylläs is certainly a great choice. Research has shown the National Park to have the cleanest air in Europe, and the turning off of all streetlights here at 10pm is a thoughtful touch by the resort to give guests the best possible views. The resort comprises two separate little Lappish villages, a panoramic 15-minute ride apart on the local shuttle-bus. The Äkäs Hotel and our choice of log cabins are in Äkäslompolo, ideally placed for cross-country skiers, whilst if downhill skiing or more extensive hotel facilities appeal to you, choose the Ylläs Saaga Spa Hotel in neighbouring Ylläsjärvi. Guided trips can be arranged through Seven Fells Up, while Äkäslompolo SportShop in the village centre is an excellent local resource for nordic skiers. There is a network of 14 ski track cafés (some only open from mid-february), plus 25 campfire shelters where you can fry your own sausages like a true Finn. 40 FINNISH LAPLAND Levi Lapland s top resort and long-standing Inghams favourite In a spectacular location north of the Arctic Circle, surrounded by frozen lakes, spruce forest and vast open tundra and fells, Levi combines this glorious setting with a high standard of accommodation, and a wide choice of bars and restaurants. A short transfer from Kittilä airport, it is also one of Finland s top ski areas and has our largest choice of activities and excursions. Everything is nearby; the airport is only 20 minutes away, while bars and restaurants are within easy walking distance of all our hotels and cabins, and the magical Lainio SnowHotel is only 45 minutes picturesque drive. When we first featured Levi almost 20 years ago, it had few of the modern resort amenities it has today. But it has been sensitively developed, with a pedestrian centre and low-rise buildings that blend into the landscape, to become our most popular Lapland resort. Ask The Experts The skiing in Levi is completely different to anything I have experienced in the Alps. The views over the landscape with the colours of the Arctic sunset are incredible and the snow is perfect. Rob Horton Reservations Consultant Our choice of accommodation varies from quiet, cosy yet modern log cabins, to the resort s flagship Levi Hotel Spa, with its 17 pools, wood saunas and wellness centre (which non-hotel guests can also pay to use). You can even stay in a luxury thermal glass igloo or a new Aurora Cabin on the quiet outskirts of Levi, where hopefully the Northern Lights will dance across the sky. In this remote and magical wilderness, you can be as active or as relaxed as you wish. In addition to the host of adventures shown on the facing page, there are cleared winter footpaths for walkers, and your Inghams Rep can also help you try downhill skiing, ice-fishing or ice-karting, or snow-shoes to reach areas well off the beaten track. Because this brochure is published in advance of the 2017/18 season, not all contracts for travel services will have been finalised at the time of going to press. If, when these contracts are finalised, there is any change to your holiday arrangements which we regard as significant, we will notify you of this in accordance with Section 4 of these Booking Conditions. Please note that Early Booking Offers, Inghams Special Discounts and child and group reductions may be changed or withdrawn at any time and may not be available at all in any future editions. 1. MAKING A BOOKING AND PAYING FOR YOUR HOLIDAY When confirming your booking, we will take a deposit of 150 per person plus insurance premium by credit card (1.5% charge) or debit card. If we have secured additional scheduled or low-cost flights for your booking, we will take payment to cover any additional costs incurred at the same time as taking your deposit. Please note that these are non-refundable in the event of cancellation. If the arrangements you wish to book are available we will issue a Confirmation Invoice and send this to you or your travel agent. A binding contract will come into existence between you and us as soon as we have issued you with this Confirmation Invoice. If your confirmed arrangements include a flight, we (or if you booked via an authorised agent of ours, that agent) will also issue you with an ATOL Certificate. The final balance payable will be shown on your Confirmation Invoice and will become due 10 weeks prior to departure. If you book your holiday within 10 weeks of departure, the full balance (rather than just deposits) will be payable straight away. If you have not paid the balance by the date it becomes due and you fail to respond to requests for payment, we reserve the right to cancel your booking and you will be liable to pay cancellation charges as set out in clause 4. Late payment will incur a late payment charge of 15 per day, per booking reference. Please note that the invoicing party for card transactions will be Hotelplan CC Services GmbH, located in Erich-Weinert-Strasse 145, Berlin, Germany. 2. YOUR CONFIRMATION INVOICE Within 48 hours of booking with us you will receive your Confirmation Invoice, which details the holiday that you have chosen and the person/s booked to travel. If you have not received your Confirmation Invoice within 7 days, please contact our Pre-Departure Guest Services Team on the number below to make sure that your booking has been confirmed by us and we have your and postal information correct. We are aware that misunderstandings can occur, particularly in the course of telephone conversations, and as such quotations are subject to written confirmation on your Confirmation Invoice. Please check your Confirmation Invoice and ATOL Certificate as soon as you receive it and, if anything is incorrect, call our Pre-Departure Guest Services Team on Lines are open 08:30 18:00 Monday Friday, and 09:00 17:30 on Saturday. The prices quoted in this brochure are based on the rates of exchange and other costs prevailing on exchange rates as follows: 1.15 on 10th March Whilst we would not anticipate any pricing errors in the Confirmation Invoice, in the event of an obviously incorrect price we will not be bound by this and will issue a revised Confirmation Invoice showing the correct amount. In the unlikely event that we are unable to confirm your booking, the following options will be available to you: (a) to accept an alternative holiday offered by us, or (b) to purchase another holiday at the current brochure/website selling price from us, or (c) to accept a full refund of all monies paid. 3. HOLIDAY PRICE, CONDITIONS AND PAYMENT The prices and conditions apply to this website and brochure and will be superseded by any subsequent brochure/website editions. Prices are correct at the time of going to press but may vary and our current selling prices will be advised at the point of enquiry on telephone bookings and confirmed on our Confirmation Invoice. All price promises on this website and in our brochure relate to brochure-priced holidays only and not to any non-brochured/late availability discounted holidays. Please note that Early Booking Offers, Inghams Special Discounts, Inghams Plus offers, child and group reductions and other offers/discounts are not applicable to nonbrochured/discounted holidays, and may be changed or withdrawn at any time and may not be available in future editions. a) Price Amendments and Surcharges i) Before you have booked: We reserve the right to increase or decrease our prices at any time, for reasons including for example (but not limited to) the correction of errors in previously published prices; significant changes in currency exchange rates; fuel cost increases or other airline or other transport providers changes to our contracted costs; UK or overseas government action on taxes, staff employment or other costs included in your holiday; other cost increases of which we were unaware at the time of publishing this brochure/website. ii) After you have booked: Full details of this section are available at co.uk/guest-services/terms-conditions. b) What the price includes All package holidays l Accommodation and meal arrangements in resort as confirmed. l Services of our resort representatives. l Any non-optional special Christmas, New Year gala dinners arranged by hoteliers, unless otherwise stated. l Self-catering holidays. Linen and end of let cleaning charges and local taxes where specified. l VAT where applicable. Air package holidays l 2.50 per person ATOL Protection Contribution (APC). l Air Passenger Duty (APD) rates as applicable. l Services of our UK and overseas airport representatives, where offered. l Return flights with 20kg per person baggage allowance l Any complimentary snack/meals offered on outward and return flights, according to the time of day and as confirmed. Some airlines make a charge for refreshments. Details can be found on your flight tickets. l Shared return transfers between overseas airport and your accommodation by coach. l All known airport and security charges in the UK and overseas. l Fuel supplements as at March Self-catering Apartments & Cabins Apartment prices are based on a minimum occupancy as described in the brochure. Any local charges that may apply in some apartments are detailed on the resort pages and clients should make provision for these, especially in the case of deposits which must be paid on arrival, as well as any hold on monies on your card for any incrementals incurred during your stay. (Credit cards are sometimes not accepted). Check-in times may also vary. c) Our package prices do not include: l Comprehensive travel insurance valid for a winter activities holiday, which you must have. l UK airport car parking. l Charge for carriage of client s own skis/snowboard on our flights. See page l Excess luggage charges. The carriage of excess baggage cannot be guaranteed. l Any resort tourist taxes (applicable per person per night) which are to be paid directly to the hotel/apartment on departure. l Any supplements or reductions indicated on the price panels for extra or alternative facilities, meals or occupancy. l Any supplements for optional gala dinners arranged by the hotelier, to be paid locally. l Pre-bookable ski packs as detailed on relevant resort pages (unless stated otherwise in the hotel description). l Meals on flights, unless otherwise stated. Due to circumstances beyond our control, airlines may cease to operate on certain routes, which may have an effect on the brochure price, and we reserve the right to pass on any extra costs that may become due. Increased security measures may cause airlines to introduce an additional security tax and this will be added to your holiday if and where applicable. d) Under Occupancy We may ask you to contribute towards the costs if you reserve rooms for your exclusive use, but do not fill all the beds. Infants occupying cots do not count towards occupancy figures. e) Insurance - IMPORTANT We strongly recommend that, once you have confirmed your holiday, you arrange your travel insurance and we would urge you to consider our house provider, Fogg Travel Insurance, a specialist provider. Travel insurance is essential on any holiday and it is a condition of booking that you have travel insurance offering at least the same or better cover as that which we recommend, details of which can be found on page 8 or viewed on our website. The policy does not cover non-uk residents. Should you opt for an alternative policy that does not satisfy this, we will not be held liable for any costs, expenses or damages incurred and we therefore suggest that you check the limits of your chosen policy. Any alternative policy must not expire until after the return date to the UK and we recommend that you arrange your insurance at the same time as confirming your booking. Also, snowmobile / skidoo excesses, which are payments levied directly by the supplier in resort for damage to the vehicle itself (and may be in excess of 800) are not covered. f) Adding Extras We re delighted to be able to offer a whole host of extras to help you get the most out of your holiday with us, details of which can be found on our website and in our brochure. It s advisable that you book any extras such as excursions and ski packs (if any) at the time of booking, as we cannot guarantee that they can be added later and prices can change at any time. If you add these extras after confirming your booking you will be charged the price applicable at the time those extras are booked, not at the time the holiday itself was booked. We try wherever possible to obtain special offers and discounts from our chosen suppliers to pass on to our guests, though these are subject to availability and can be withdrawn at any time. Please ask our Reservations Team about any applicable offers when confirming your booking. g) Discounted Holidays We reserve the right to sell holidays at a discount and you may therefore share accommodation with guests who have paid a lower price. You will not be entitled to any refund or difference in cost in any circumstances in the event that a holiday that you purchase is subsequently discounted within the same season or at short notice. Late bookers paying discounted prices are likely to occupy the least attractive rooms and have little or no choice of resort and accommodation. If you are booking a late deal, we reserve the right to make an additional charge for items included in brochure-priced holidays. If this applies, you will be notified at the time of booking. Discounted holidays are sometimes available for unnamed accommodation. Before booking such a holiday you should ensure that you would be happy to stay in any of the properties featured in our brochure or on our website. In the event of a complaint regarding any aspect of a discounted holiday (i.e. one sold with a non-brochured discount), we reserve the right to take account of this discount when assessing any compensation or goodwill payment in response to such complaints. h) Carriage of skis/snowboards If you have your own equipment then please do let us know when booking your holiday so that we can do our best to ensure that your skis or snowboard can be carried on your flight, as ski carriage can be limited. Pre-booked skis/snowboard carriage on our charter flights is normally 35 return per snowboard or pair of skis, but can sometimes be up to 70 each way on scheduled flights (current price to be advised at time of booking). Please do be aware that this is per set of equipment, and that ski/snowboard bags presented for carriage containing more than one pair of skis/snowboard where the appropriate charge per set of equipment has not been pre-paid will be charged for at check-in. Carriage of skis/snowboards presented for check-in at the airport without being shown as pre-booked on your Confirmation Invoice cannot be guaranteed and, if carried, will carry a charge per snowboard/pair of skis payable at the airport in cash prior to check-in which can be considerably higher than the pre-booked price. Some aircraft have limited capacity for skis/snowboards, and space is allocated on a first come, first served basis. i) Group & Child Discounts We are pleased to offer some great discounts to groups travelling together and to those travelling with children. Except where stated, child FREE and discounted places are based on child/children sharing the room with at least two full-paying guests. A maximum of two discounted child places (including a FREE place if applicable) is permitted per room/suite/cabin/ apartment. Full details of restrictions and limitations on these offers are available at or please contact our Reservations Department on for more details. NB Air Passenger Duty (APD) for children under 16 years was abolished in April This has been taken into account in the calculation of our child reductions. j) Travel Agent Bookings If you book through a Travel Agent they will act to pass information from you to us and vice versa. They will also receive payment from you for their holiday. All monies you pay to the Travel Agent are held by them on our behalf at all times. Any advice given to you from your Travel Agent which is not based on advice given to them by Inghams is their responsibility. In these circumstances we do not accept liability if incorrect advice is given to you by your Travel Agent. Our holidays may appear on websites operated by Travel Agents or other third parties. We have absolutely no control over the contents and practices of these websites. You access and rely upon the contents of these third party websites solely at your own risk. We accept no responsibility for the contents of and practices of any third party websites. 4. ALTERATIONS OR CANCELLATION OF THE BOOKING BY YOU We will always do our best to accommodate any changes that you need to make to your confirmed holiday arrangements, so do let our Pre-Departure Guest Services Team know if there s anything we can help with. a) Cost of changes i. Within 7 days of departure, any cancellation of pre-booked items will incur an administration fee of 25 per person. ii. Name or flight changes. No charge will be made for name changes notified to us within 14 days of the first confirmation. Thereafter, a charge of 15 ( 25 if tickets have been issued) will be made for each name change. However, different conditions apply for holidays utilising non-charter flights. Re-ticketing charges by scheduled/low-cost airlines in respect of name changes made within 14 days of booking will incur cancellation charges on a scale of 100 upwards. Some scheduled airlines may not permit flight or name changes and may charge fees if a change is permitted. Please contact our Pre-Departure Guest Services Team for more details. iii. Other amendments will attract a charge of 35 per person. Full details available at b) Cancelling any part of your booking We really hope that you don t have reason to cancel your holiday arrangements with us, but if you do, we ask that you let us know immediately by beforeyoutravel@inghams.co.uk, or by post to: Pre-Departure Guest Services, Inghams, Mountain House, Station Road, Godalming, Surrey, GU7 1EX. Cancellation charges will be calculated as per the below from the date that your written notification is received by us. Period before scheduled departure date when your cancellation notification is received Cancellation charge expressed as a % of total holiday cost 70 days or more Deposit & Insurance, plus any non-cancellable/changeable element days 60% days 80% 0-21 days 100% Departure date/no show 100% Please be aware that if one member of your party wishes to cancel, this may mean that the accommodation booked will be under-occupied and result in the other members having to pay any additional applicable supplements or child discount changes to retain the booking. Whilst we recognise that weather does play an important part in ski holidays, we regret that insufficient snow in resort is not considered a reason to cancel. If you choose to cancel your holiday on the day of departure due to circumstances beyond our control, e.g. as a result of an extended flight delay, no compensation or refunds will be payable by ourselves and any associated claims should be sent to your insurers. c) If you change the arrangements whilst on holiday If you wish to make any changes whilst on holiday to the arrangements we have been contracted to provide; for example, upgrading your accommodation, changing resort, extending or reducing your holiday duration, our overseas operations team will endeavour to assist in any way they can. All such requests will be subject to availability and any extra costs, including cancellation charges, must be met by you and paid locally. 5. ALTERATIONS AND CANCELLATIONS BY US We produce our brochures a considerable time in advance of the 2017/18 ski season, and so not all contracts for accommodation, flights and other travel services will have been finalised at the time of going to press. If, when these contracts are finalised, there is any change to your holiday arrangements which we regard as significant, our Pre-Departure Guest Services Team will notify you as soon as is reasonably possible. Although your confirmation and subsequent Confirmation Invoices will show the latest route timings, these will not be confirmed until your e-tickets are sent and occasionally may change after this, due to circumstances outside our control. a) Alterations before your holiday Any changes that we are required to make will typically fall into one of the following categories, with compensation for Major Changes applicable as per the table below. Minor Changes - Examples of minor changes include change of airline, flight time by less than 12 hours, routings, aircraft type or overseas arrival airports, changes to ski pack, ski carriage arrangements or luggage allowance on flights (inc. luggage allowance changes if carrier changes), room type changes, loss of facility in room type booked, representative in resort services and any other change not specified under Major Changes below. Major Changes - these include changes of UK airport (excluding a change of London airports); transportation method; resort; time of departure from the UK delayed by more than 12 hours; accommodation of a lower official classification; cancellation of holiday. These changes are only illustrations and there may be other significant changes which constitute major changes. If we alter your booking in any way which amounts to a major change as defined above or if we cancel the original booking within 70 days of the scheduled departure, you will have the option to: i) accept the new holiday arrangements offered by us, or ii) purchase another holiday from us (if available), at the current selling price, or iii) cancel your holiday with us altogether and receive a full refund of all monies paid and received by Hotelplan Ltd. You must advise us which option you wish to accept within 7 days of notification. If you do not contact us within 7 days, we will assume you have chosen to accept the alternative holiday arrangements offered. Whichever option you choose, you will be entitled to compensation as outlined in the table below, subject to Compensation payment exceptions in paragraph 4(b). If you contact us but seek to refuse all three contracted options above, we reserve the right to cancel your holiday at that time and refund all monies paid and received by Hotelplan Ltd. Period before scheduled departure within which a Major Change or booking cancellation is notified to you or your travel agent More than 70 days days days days days 40 Compensation per paying person b) Compensation payment exceptions Compensation payments or refunds will not be made where cancellation or change is due to unusual or unforeseen circumstances beyond our control known as force majeure, such as but not limited to: war or threat of war, riots, civil strife, terrorist activity, industrial disputes, natural or nuclear disasters, epidemics, health risks, fire, technical problems with transport, closure or congestion of airports, stations or ports, adverse weather conditions affecting resort access and/or operation, cancellations or changes of schedules by carriers due to adverse weather conditions; or where we cancel the holiday due to your failure to pay the balance due, or where we cancel due to improper conduct (see full booking conditions, clause 5(d) below). Compensation will not be paid to adults or children travelling on a free place and will be paid on a pro-rata basis of the adult rate where children have received a reduced rate. These compensation payments do not apply to discounted holidays. c) Prompt Assistance in Resort Please do let our resort team know if there is anything that they can assist you with during the course of your holiday with us. They will provide you with a Welcome Pack on arrival that contains the contact telephone number for your Resort Representative or Local Agent, as well as any applicable visiting hours. 6. OUR LIABILITY TO YOU We recognise that sometimes things do not go entirely to plan and so will accept responsibility for the package holiday arrangements we agree to provide or arrange for you as an organiser under the Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992 as set out below. Subject to these Booking Conditions, if we or our suppliers perform or arrange your contracted package holiday arrangements negligently, taking into consideration all relevant factors (for example following the complaints procedure as described in these conditions and the extent to which ours or our employees or suppliers negligence affected the overall enjoyment of your holiday), we will pay you reasonable compensation. Please note that it is your responsibility to show that we or our supplier(s) have been negligent if you wish to make a claim against us. We will not be responsible or pay you compensation for any injury, illness, death, loss, damage, expense, cost or other claim of any description directly arising out of the package holiday services if it results from:- (a) the act(s) and/or omission(s) of the person(s) affected; (b) the act(s) and/or omission(s) of a third party unconnected with the provision of the services contracted for and which were unforeseeable or unavoidable; or (c) unusual or unforeseeable circumstances beyond ours or our supplier(s) control, the consequences of which could not have been avoided even if all due care had been exercised; or (d) an event which neither we nor our suppliers could reasonably have foreseen or forestalled, even with all due care. In addition, we will not be responsible (i) where you do not enjoy your package holiday or suffer any problems due to something about which you did not tell us when you booked your holiday and where the problems you suffered did not result from any breach of our contract or other fault of ourselves, our suppliers or agents; (ii) where any losses, expenses, costs or other sum you have suffered relate to any business or profession. Please note, we cannot accept responsibility for any services which do not form part of your package holiday contract. In respect of travel by air, sea and rail, our liability will in all cases be limited in accordance in an identical manner to the limitation of damage provisions as set out in the appropriate Conventions, which include:- The Athens Convention, The Montreal Convention and the Berne/Cotif Convention. Copies of all such terms are available on request from us. In all cases except where personal injury, illness or death results, our maximum liability is limited in total to twice the holiday price of the person(s) affected. a) Refunds If you have booked any special activities, excursions or other services which do not form part of your package holiday contract and these are unavailable due to circumstances beyond our control, claims should be made under your own travel insurance policy. b) Anti-social behaviour/bullying We want all of our guests to enjoy their holiday with Inghams. However, in the event that an accommodation owner or manager, Inghams employee or supplier s representative or any other person in authority consider it necessary to terminate your holiday arrangements, we will accept no responsibility or liability for making alternative arrangements for accommodation or repatriation nor for covering any costs you may incur. These decisions are of course not taken lightly and will usually be as a direct result of your anti-social behaviour or verbal or physical abuse or bullying of our staff, our suppliers or other guests, or if such behaviour is deemed likely to cause a disturbance to other guests. With that said, we accept no responsibility for any inconvenience or upset caused to you by the actions or behaviour of other guests. c) Resort development & noise If we are informed of any building works at or close proximity to your accommodation that may in our reasonable view significantly affect the enjoyment of your holiday, we will do our best to forewarn you about it prior to your departure. Please note that such works may not be carried out by the providers of accommodation featured online or in our brochure, and may be outside of their control. It is impossible to predict noise created by individuals, machinery or traffic, i.e. temporary noise disturbances. Live music/noise from bars which are adjacent or part of any properties we feature may extend their opening hours, especially on public holidays, and opening times may differ from those published. We will not always be aware of all/any works or festivities occurring in your resort, therefore will be unable to advise you before you travel. Equally, if a lift office, ski school or tourist board deem it necessary to amend, cancel or change facilities or services offered, that is done entirely at their discretion, not ours. d) In-Resort Any activities, excursions or ski packs that you may choose to book or pay for in addition to your package holiday either at the time of booking, before your departure or whilst you are on holiday are not part of your package holiday provided by us. For any activity, excursion or ski pack not booked as part of your package holiday, your contract will be with the provider of the activity, excursion or ski pack and not with Hotelplan Ltd. Minimum numbers and/or suitable weather conditions are required for certain activities to take place. If the required numbers are not reached, or the weather prevents the activity taking place at all during your holiday, or the activity is withdrawn by the provider for any reason, any refunds must be negotiated directly with the provider and cannot be guaranteed by us as we act as an agent and are not responsible for the provision of the service or activity normally. No refunds or compensation will be paid by the service providers if you simply change your mind about taking part in an activity after booking it, or miss the transport provided, or fail to arrive at the designated meeting point on time, or, in your or the provider s judgement, cannot physically cope with the activity. (If the latter is due to a physical injury, you should claim under your travel insurance policy.) Any arrangements made by you independently of our company are entirely at your own risk and we are unable to offer any assistance in relation to them. You should make sure you are appropriately insured. 8. YOUR LIABILITY TO US The accommodation we have booked on your behalf is available for use only by those persons included on the booking, unless otherwise agreed by us in writing prior to departure from the UK. We have a duty to ensure that guests do not suffer damage caused by preceding guests, so it is a condition of booking that whilst on holiday you are responsible for any damage caused to your accommodation, or other facilities or equipment you use, except by persons not known to you or us and unconnected with the contract between us. We appreciate that normal usage causes wear upon furniture, fixtures and fittings and this is always taken into consideration, but actual damage caused by guests, either by accident or negligence, must be paid for. You are responsible for meeting any charges levied by either the owner, provider or Hotelplan Ltd to rectify such situations. 9. COMPLAINT RESOLUTION We want all our guests to have an enjoyable holiday with us, however if you are dissatisfied please bring your complaint to our attention as soon as possible to the relevant person, for example your Resort Representative/agent and the relevant provider whilst you are on holiday. Your Representative s contact number and any applicable visiting hours will be provided in your Welcome Pack and/or in your accommodation. We will do everything reasonably possible to resolve your complaint during your trip. If you remain dissatisfied, then please complete a Guest Service Report form with your Resort Representative. It is sometimes difficult, if not impossible, to investigate a complaint if it is not raised in resort and failure to follow this procedure may affect your rights under this contract. We want to know if any issues remain unresolved, and would ask that you let us know within 21 days of your return. You can do this by calling, ing or writing to our Post-Departure Guest Services team on the details below. guest.services@inghams.co.uk; Telephone: Our opening hours are: Monday Friday 08:30 18:00, and Saturday 09:00 17:30. Please quote your booking reference and send any supporting documentation such as receipts and photographs you would like us to consider when resolving your complaint, as this information may also help with the speed of our investigation. As members of ABTA (membership number V4871, we operate in accordance with the ABTA Code of Conduct and, if we cannot resolve your complaint, can offer you ABTA s scheme for the resolution of disputes via SPECIAL REQUESTS We will pass on any special requests and try to meet them but cannot guarantee to do so. Your special request will be shown on your Confirmation Invoice to signify your request has been made but this is not an indication that it can or will be fulfilled. Special requests do not form part of our package holiday contractual agreement and we will have no liability if they are not met. Any special requests you have such as vegetarian or other special dietary meals, special facilities, specific room allocations or any other requirements you consider important, should be made known to us at the time of booking and advised to us promptly, in writing. If you require the fulfillment of your request to be a condition of your package holiday contract with us, this can only be done if you advise us in writing and our providers agree they can meet your request and we confirm this back to you in writing, separately to the Confirmation Invoice. See online booking conditions with regard to dietary requirements. 11. ACCURACY OF BROCHURE/WEBSITE INFORMATION To the best of our knowledge the information contained in this brochure and on our website is correct at the time of publication. However, we reserve the right to make changes after publication and will advise you of any changes which we consider significant at the time you book your holiday or when they are finalised. Our website will display the most up-to-date information that we have. Facilities such as a lift, log fire, pool, sauna, steam-room, hot-tub, TV/DVD player, Wi-Fi, or other leisure facilities contracted through us as part of your package holiday arrangement may become unavailable during the season. If these are important to your package holiday enjoyment, please make this known to us at the time of booking and confirm to us in writing. If we are informed that there have been any changes to such facilities, and you have alerted us, in writing, to the fact that they are important to your booking, we shall do our best to advise you but we shall not be obliged in such circumstances either to provide the facility or to compensate for its absence. If such a facility is considered essential to your package holiday, then it must be made a condition of the package holiday contract, by taking the steps outlined in paragraph 10. No refund of package holiday costs or compensation will otherwise be paid for the nonavailability of any such facilities. Our holidays and other types of holiday arrangements may also be featured on websites owned and operated by travel agents and other organisations. We have absolutely no control over the content or maintenance of such sites and therefore we cannot accept any liability for information contained on them. Where distance is quoted in time taken to walk, we have used as a guideline that 100m takes an adult one minute to walk in standard footwear under snow and ice-clear conditions. Clearly, timings will vary according to footwear, age, personal fitness and surface conditions. The pictures shown in the brochure and on the website are included for their style and general relevance and are shown for illustration purposes and unless stated are not necessarily taken at the resort described. Photographs of rooms are intended to give an indication of the typical appearance, but rooms will inevitably vary in size, furnishing and decorative style, particularly where there has been partial refurbishment. Early and late season holidays particularly, (and potentially) other dates, may sometimes be affected by the closure/alteration of certain resort facilities such as some ski-lifts and/or ski areas, swimming pools, saunas, ice-rinks, bus or public transport services, shops, bars and/ or restaurants, activities advertised either within a particular property or the resort itself etc, due to maintenance/refurbishment, poor weather conditions or lack of tourists. As such resort facilities are not owned by Hotelplan Ltd and we have no control over their operation and in many cases are not given notice of their closure. We cannot accept any responsibility should such facilities be withdrawn, curtailed or moved (for example in the case of the location of children s ski areas) at any time. Hotelplan Ltd cannot accept responsibility for any losses incurred as a result of industrial action in resort e.g. strike action by lift operators, bus drivers, ski schools etc. Star ratings, where available, are shown at the foot of the price panel. They are primarily intended to give a guide to the range of facilities and services available in each property. We also show our own Inghams rating of each property alongside the property name and above its description. These ratings are based on our own inspections of properties as well as on customer feedback as expressed in our questionnaires and indicated by a white star rating from HH to HHHHH. Properties in Finnish Lapland do not have official ratings, but have been assessed by us. 12. TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS All flight arrangements are made under our own Air Travel Organiser s Licence number When you travel by air, land or on water, the relevant carrier s Conditions of Carriage will apply to your journey, some of which may limit liability, as set out under Our Liability to you. All land and air travel arrangements, airlines, aircraft types, timings, routings and arrival airports are provisional until confirmed with our e-tickets and may change after this due to circumstances beyond our control. Operational decisions may be taken by carriers and/or airports and other such authorities, resulting in delays, diversions or re-scheduling. As this is not within our control, we cannot accept liability for such situations. In a force majeure situation, such as severe weather conditions or industrial disputes, we reserve the right to substitute airlines/aircraft and make any necessary alteration to your travel arrangements, including a change of airport and method of carriage, to enable us to fulfil our package holiday promise to transport you to and from the resort or your UK departure airport. We are also obliged to bring to your attention the existence of a community list of airlines that are banned from operating within the EU. To view it go to and search on banned airlines. a) Flights Pregnant women are usually eligible to fly up to the 28th week of pregnancy on the date of return travel, but as this may vary, please check beforehand with both your doctor and the relevant airline. Children under 2 years of age on the return date of travel must sit on a parent s lap and are not entitled to a luggage allowance or catering. Civil Aviation Authority regulations dictate that a child of 2 years or older on date of return travel must have its own air seat, and will otherwise be denied boarding by the airline. Such a child must be booked and priced accordingly for the entirety of the holiday. Seating families together on the aircraft is FREE, but cannot be guaranteed in all cases, particularly if you arrive later for check-in, although check-in staff and cabin crew will do their best. Clearly, when a flight is full for example, it may be physically impossible to seat every single passenger as they would wish. b) Flight Changes, Delays and Diversions In the unlikely event of a flight delay, the airline will endeavour to keep you informed and provide you with refreshments and or meals in accordance with their obligations under the EU Denied Boarding Regulations (copies will be available at the airline counter) where it is operationally feasible to do so. In the event of extended delays at an overseas airport we will endeavour in conjunction with the airline to make arrangements for overnight accommodation for you, though this cannot be guaranteed, and will depend upon local availability. You will be responsible for any accommodation costs as these cannot be borne by Hotelplan Ltd and you should be able to reclaim the costs against your insurance policy. If your flight is delayed due to reasons of force majeure such as weather conditions (either in the UK or overseas), industrial action, natural disasters, closure or congestion of airports, etc we regret that neither we nor the airline will be liable to provide meals, refreshments or overnight accommodation. You should ensure that your own travel insurance policy provides a reasonable level of cover for such events. If you consider that you have a claim under EC261/2004 regulations in the event of a flight delay or cancellation you should approach the airline concerned, not Inghams, as these regulations apply to airlines not tour operators. Inghams cannot offer compensation for inconvenience or loss of holiday time caused by late arrival in resort due to flight delays, flight diversions, road/weather conditions or curtailment regardless of how caused. Similarly it is not possible to obtain refunds for any unused accommodation or facilities or for losses, costs and expenses of other travel/accommodation arrangements outside of the package holiday resulting from flight changes, delays or diversions, which should be claimed on your own insurance policy. Very rarely we may be forced by, for example, adverse weather conditions or road closures (not necessarily in your chosen resort) to make alternative arrangements and in the interests of safety for your outward and/or return journey (generally at the point of flight departure and dependent upon availability of local facilities) the cost of which, if not covered by the airline, must be claimed on your own travel insurance. In such circumstances we will endeavour to provide reasonable assistance with alternative arrangements, but you will not be entitled to additional compensation. If you are using connecting or internal flights either outbound or homebound to connect with our flights and experience a delay, we ask that you telephone us to inform us of your amended travel arrangements. Relevant contact details can be found on our website in the Pre-departure Information. Please note that we do not accept responsibility in the event of any delay to, or if you miss, connecting flights or other services that have not been booked through us. If you are booking connecting flights we would recommend that you purchase a ticket which may allow a degree of flexibility in the event of any delay or change to your advertised flight timings. If your flight is delayed resulting in late arrival in resort (i.e. after 9pm) you will usually be offered a cold plate or a reduced menu on arrival. On your return journey to the UK our obligation, particularly in a force majeure situation, is to provide transportation back to your original UK departure airport. To do this we reserve the right to substitute airlines/aircraft and make any necessary alteration to your travel arrangements, including a change of method of carriage. Return flights may be arranged to an alternative airport in the UK with onward surface transportation to your original airport. In such circumstances transportation costs will be met by Inghams but we will not be responsible for the provision or cost of meals, telephone calls, etc. Please note that we will not accept responsibility for alternative travel arrangements you choose to make yourself and in no circumstances will we accept responsibility for loss of earnings or professional fees. c) Baggage and Baggage Allowance The baggage allowance for our flights must not be exceeded in any circumstances, or check-in staff may levy excess baggage charges or be unable to place your luggage on the flight. All your belongings remain your responsibility at all times and Hotelplan Ltd will not be held responsible for any items being mislaid, loaded onto wrong coaches, left behind etc. It is normally your responsibility to manage your baggage at all times including its transfer on and off transfer vehicles and to and from the hotel or property you are residing in. No liability is accepted for misplacement of items, leaving items/luggage behind or mistaking someone else s luggage for your own or another guest/person taking your luggage off any transfer, believing it to be their own or otherwise. Hotelplan Ltd accepts no responsibility for luggage lost or damaged by the airline or airport baggage handlers or coach drivers, and if this occurs, you should notify the service provider immediately of any problem that has arisen. You should contact the airline, airport or coach company directly and use your travel insurance for any resulting claim. Baggage allowances may change if your carrier changes. d) Transfers Transfer times shown are approximate and do not include refreshment/toilet stops. The times may also be affected by weather, road and traffic conditions. In particular, congestion during continental school holidays can cause delays, as may road closures due to road works, avalanche risks etc. We ask for your understanding accordingly if, faced with forecasts of heavy snow and/ or heavy holiday traffic, we need to arrange your homeward transfer earlier than normal to allow extra time to reach the airport. Although many coaches are equipped with toilets, they are not always available for use, for a variety of reasons. Coaches do not always have fitted seatbelts. Some properties are not situated close to coach-accessible roads and walks from 50 to 400 metres, sometimes with gradients, are necessary on arrival and departure. Please see the property description and if this is important to you call our reservations team. Transfers will endeavour to drop you off directly outside your accommodation wherever possible, but there may be times where, due to adverse weather conditions or other circumstances beyond our control, this may not be possible. On occasions there may be waiting times for other flights to join your transfer to resort, and transfers may sometimes involve a change of vehicle en route. Your return transfer coach may also carry guests from more than one flight and this may affect your departure time from resort. In the event of a flight diversion to an outbound flight for whatever reason, Inghams will endeavour to arrange coaches and staff to be at the alternative airport to meet you, but this cannot be guaranteed at short notice and we ask for your patience and understanding. No liability will be accepted if a diversion causes a delay at the arrival airport and/or a longer than advertised transfer to resort. Restrictions on drivers working hours can occasionally affect coach availability and may result in delays. 13. ACCOMMODATION INFORMATION FOR HOTELS & SELF-CATERING UNITS At each of the hotel and apartment properties featured in this brochure we have an allocation of rooms/apartments at contract rates and conditions. Full explanations on information specific to accommodation is available at terms-conditions 14. ADDED ON EXTRAS SUCH AS LIFT PASSES, SKI LESSONS AND EQUIPMENT & EXCURSIONS The Booking Conditions contained in this section together with the description of the Ski Pack Services and the general information contained in this brochure, on our website and from our overseas team when booking, form the basis of your agreement with the Ski Pack Providers in relation to the purchase of your Ski Pack Services, whether pre-booked or purchased in resort. In the following text any reference to Ski Pack Providers should be taken to include Excursion Providers, ski schools and lift operators as well. All information in our brochure, on our website and in the Inghams Welcome Pack has been provided by the Ski Pack Service Providers and we do not accept any liability for any errors on the part of the Ski Pack Providers. All Ski Pack Providers have agreed that these Booking Conditions constitute your agreement with the Provider for the purchase of the Ski Pack Service but reserve the right to introduce other conditions or vary these conditions as they may see fit. Ski packs, excursions and activities booked via a third party from a third party. Most of our ski pack, excursion and activity partners in resorts have been trusted Inghams partners for many years, and all have been vetted and approved by our senior overseas managers. When you book any ski pack, excursion or activity advertised on our website or in our brochure you can therefore rely on the supplier s credentials, service levels and professionalism, and of course on the services of your Inghams representative or local agent to help with every detail of the arrangements for you. If however you, or your travel agent on your behalf, choose to book any ski pack, excursion or activity directly with a third party supplier, please note that Inghams accepts no liability whatsoever for any aspect of its operation. This includes a) that our Reps will not be able to provide our normal high levels of service to you in respect of such arrangements, or even basic details of pick-up times or locations, as these will not be provided to us by the companies concerned if the booking is not through ourselves, and b) that all applicable complaints, whether in resort or subsequently, and any claims for personal injury, refunds or compensation must be addressed to your chosen excursion/activity supplier directly, or to your travel agent as appropriate. 15. VISAS, PASSPORTS AND HEALTH The party leader is responsible for ensuring all party members are in possession of a valid passport (a full 10 year passport in the case of British Citizens over the age of 16 on return date). British Citizen children under 16 years old and not already on a parent s passport valid for the dates of travel, must have their own passport. Your specific passport, visa and immigration requirements, including any minimum required validity period beyond holiday dates, are your responsibility and you should confirm these with the relevant Embassies and/or Consulates. Generally speaking, British citizens do not require visas for Lapland. 16. TRAVEL GUIDANCE The Foreign & Commonwealth Travel Advice Unit may have issued guidance on your destination. You can check through the ABTA Information Department on or at Lapland Brochure 2017/18 April 2017 Call Visit inghams.co.uk/lapland 47
