Northern Lights BBQ. Day by Day Itinerary DAY 1:Fly to Lapland. Overnight in Warm accommodation at ICEHOTEL Fly to Kiruna in Swedish Lapland where on arrival you will be met by one of the guides and transferred to the ICEHOTEL for check into warm accommodation. At the same time you will be kitted out with your arctic clothing. Evening at leisure. We will make a restaurant reservation for you in one of the Ice Hotel s 2 restaurants. 2 DAY 2:Husky Wilderness Safari. Overnight in Art Suite at Original ICEHOTEL After breakfast you will be picked up from the ICEHOTEL for what is for many the favourite day of a trip to Lapland driving your own sled dog team. Transfer to the kennel located in a remote river valley where moose congregate in winter. Ylva Sievertsson is an accomplished musher, whose kennel is in a remote valley from where she runs very personal sled dog trips. As you will discover she has a very special relationship with her dogs and it is a thrill to visit her kennel. Once you arrive at the kennels get acquainted with the dogs and receive detailed instructions about how to drive them. Head out into the frozen river valley where you will have opportunities to take turns in driving the team whilst making stops to take photos. The location is outside the major tourist areas and we can almost promise that you will enjoy pristine arctic nature alone. You will be out for around 2 hours before heading back to base for a warming lunch in the traditional Kota adjacent to the family home. To make it more exclusive we only take a maximum of 4 sled dog teams at a time. Late afternoon take the residents tour of the ICEHOTEL, where you will be advised on how to make the most of your stay in one of the amazing art suites. Tonight stay in an art suite designed and built by an international ice artist. Sleep in a thermal sleeping bag on a special bed of snow and ice, on reindeer skins. All of our northern lights holidays are in the aurora belt so always scan the skies for flickers of the mystical green lights! Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch A la Carte Optional Extras Upgrade to Deluxe Suite at ICEHOTEL The Deluxe Suites are individually designed and sculpted thematic suites. The artists, perhaps from Sweden, Germany, UK or the US have been picked from over two-hundred applicants and invited to make the suite you ll be sleeping in. Each suite is unique and has never been created before. The room holds a temperature of -5 to -8 degrees Celsius. The suites have the same standard of bed but the big feature is that you have your own private heated bathroom and relaxation directly connected to the bedroom. 3 DAY 3:Day Snowmobile Tour with IceFishing. Overnight at Máttaráhkká Northern Lights Lodge After Breakfast check out and pick up by a guide who will take you out for a very special day in the wilderness. The Lodge is situated near trails that take you into pristine wilderness and your adventure begins with taking snowmobiles out along these trails. Follow frozen river valleys and ride up the Fells to the guide s secret lake where Arctic Char abound. Put your Reindeer skins on the ice, drill a hole and see what you can catch. We have been known to catch 3-4kg Char up here! Part of the beauty is purely being away from anything and feeling like you own this wilderness for a moment in time. The guide will also have snow shoes with him so that you can try your hand. Lunch is taken in the wild and will be cooked on a fire in the great outdoors. Venture back to the lodge if you have caught a good fish then the team will cook it for your for dinner! After the experience drive straight back to Máttaráhkká Northern Lights Lodge your base for the next 3 nights. This small lodge ( 7 rooms) is a wonderful home away from home escape on an elevated location on the road to Abisko. Besides the warm hospitality the northern lights from the lodge are excellent with the backdrop of the Abisko alps providing an endless Vista. 4 After breakfast at the lodge transfer to the Sámi village of Rávttas, 20 minutes west of the lodge to meet with Nils Håkan Enoksson. Nils Håkan can trace back his family roots several hundred years and has interesting insights into how life has changed in this period. This experience will give you a glimpse of the traditional lifestyle of the Sámi people and affords the opportunity to get up close with Lapland s most iconic creature the reindeer. During the visit you will have an opportunity to feed the reindeer and absorb the magical relationship between the Sámi and their most prized resource. Your visit includes a ride on a traditional Reindeer powered sled, the means by which the Sami people traversed the arctic for centuries. To end the encounter Hakan will invite you into his traditional Sámi lavvu (teepee) where you will be served a fresh and delicious meal around an open fire. This glimpse into traditional Sámi life will certainly be a highlight of your break to Lapland. This evening your northern lights holiday continues as you enjoy a BBQ on the aurora deck outside the lodge looking towards Abisko. The position of the lodge provides great views to the horizon and is a great place for witnessing the Northern Lights. This is likely to take you in the direction of Abisko an area with extremely high levels of sightings. Our mission is to get you to see the aurora and manage your itinerary to achieve this goal. 5 After breakfast at leisure before checking out of the lodge and transferring to the airport at the end of your complete ICEHOTEL northern lights holiday. DAY 1 Morning at leisure before lunchtime transfer to Abisko, widely regarded as one of the best places one earth for aurora hunting. Settle into your room at Abisko Mountain lodge before enjoying their excellent cuisine at dinner. Afterwards transfer to the Aurora Sky Station for their nightly aurora hunt. DAY 2 Catch the train from Abisko to Narvik traveling on an historic rail journey with great scenery. In Narvik check into the Grand Hotel. Visit the war museum this afternoon. Tonight enjoy dinner at the Hotel before pick up for a night of Northern Lights hunting. From Narvik town, you will be lifted up to the top of Narvik Fjellet by gondola to a stunning newly renovated lodge to search for Northern Lights alongside an expert Aurora guide. Amazing views over the Fjords and hopefully an aurora display await DAY 3 Catch the bus via the Polar Park to Tromso. The Polar Park is home to many of the indigenous wildlife of the region. Wolves, bears, Moose and lynx are just a few. On arrival in Tromso check into your hotel the Scandic Ishavshotel your base for the next 2 nights. Tonight enjoy dinner at the hotel DAY 4 Explore Tromso, Paris of the North. We include entrance to the Polar Musuem and a visit to the Arctic Cathedral. Tonight finish your holiday with a final northern lights hunt and dinner as you Experience Tromsø s best view! The cable car runs from Solliveien up to the mountain ledge in just four minutes. From the viewing platform and restaurant at the upper station enjoy spectacular panoramic views of Tromsø, surrounding islands, mountains and fjords and hopefully the Northern Lights! DAY 5 At Leisure until flybus transfer to the airport for your flight home. 6 Extension to See Stockholm Scandinavia's Capital City Stockholm is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and always rates in the top 10 most desirable cities in the world to live in. It is also the perfect contrast to a break in the arctic. The old town in Stockholm is very picturesque and compact and can be done in a full day. Your time will be spent exploring some fascinating landmarks. The VASA museum is world class, the Nobel museum of local interest and there are various galleries including one portraying excellent modern art Also in December Stockholm has many Christmas markets so a break can allow you to do some shopping and get into the Christmas spirit. You will stay in the Rival Hotel owned by Benny Anderson of Abba fame. The hotel is an excellent 4* hotel in a quiet square but within walking distance of the old town. Cost Per Person ( Weekend vs Week Day ) Includes 2 nights in standard double room bed and breakfast, private airport transfers to and from Arlanda airport Where You'll Stay Original ICEHOTEL From 2015 The ICEHOTEL consists of 2 structures - the temporary hotel is rebuilt each year from blocks of ice harvested from the Torne river which runs adjacent to the IceHotel. These are stored for the summer in a huge warehouse and as the late Autumn temperature in Jukkasjärvi drops below zero ice artists arrive from the world over to build this magnificent creation. They build the 4 levels of rooms, the ice chapel and the ice bar. Their art is created with imagination and hard work, only to melt away under the unforgiving rays of the spring sun. The new ICEHOTEL 365 is a permanent ICEHOTEL and a feat of engineering which offers visitors the chance of staying the whole year round. It is an all suite hotel and also houses the celebrated ICEBAR. On request we can ask for the luxury suites which have adjacent bathrooms. These carry a supplement. You will leave your luggage in an adjacent service block where there are saunas and showers, whilst all you will take into the hotel is you and your thermal arctic sleeping bag! 7 Warm Accommodation at ICEHOTEL Nordic Chalets - these apartments have two bedrooms, a kitchenette and a simple lounge area, ideal for family or friends sharing. The décor is calm and classic Scandinavian, with white-washed wooden panel walls, birch wood details, heated tiled floors and shades of natural shades of grey, white and brown. Arctic Chalets have a rustic character, with pine wood paneled walls, tiled floors and birchwood details complemented by shades of dark blue, grey and white Mattarahkka Northern Lights Sami Lodge The lodge has a fabulous sauna and a very unusual northern lights hot tub on the roof where you can star gaze or hunt for the Aurora (this carries an extra charge). 8 Reviews & Feedback We had a wonderful trip to Swedish Lapland with Weekend a la carte. The Lodge was perfect and the staff friendly and helpful. We saw the Northern Lights twice during the stay. A magical experience which we will never forget. Dog sledding with Ylva and Peter (and Leo age 3) was fantastic, we really felt like guests of the family rather than clients. Andreas took us Snowmobiling for a morning, which was great fun. All of the experiences we had with Weekend a la carte over the four days had an exclusive feel, These are not mass-market excursions along with lots of others. Bjorn and the rest of the staff were excellent. If you are thinking of making this trip, don't,... just do it. You won't regret it.
