1 ROME 2020 St. Mary of Vernon Alpha Omega & Catholic Heart Work Camp (CHWC) This is for the summer of CHWC Trip to Fremont, Nebraska, June There will be an Information meeting in early December. There is a good chance that a 2020 Continental Mission Trip in addition to Rome will be taking place. 1

2 Who can go? There is a limit of 50 spots available for teens & chaperones, as of today, October 24 th, through CHWC The minimum age required by CHWC: students entering 10 th grade in the fall of 2020 (aka-current 8 th graders) Teens who are active in Alpha Omega Youth Ministry and/or registered St. Mary of Vernon parishioners are eligible to go (including adults, young adults, & college students) CHWC especially wants Medical Personnel! If you are someone certified, over 21 yrs. old, & willing to help with this role, let Jim know so that we can reach out to CHWC The limit is based on CHWC s availability! It opened since mid-september. 20 spaces are already gone. The Chaperone/Student ratio is 1/5. 2

3 Transportation Rachel Anderson from CHWC, our Group Manager, will book all flights Fly from O Hare International into Fiumicino Airport (aka Leonardo da Vinci), Italy While in Rome you will travel mostly by foot. Some excursions will use a bus or the subway. Passports are REQUIRED All transportation costs are INCLUDED! No specific vaccinations are required, but CHWC suggests seeing the doctor 4-6 weeks before going and to be up to date with shots ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST HAVE PERSONAL HEALTH INSURANCE 3

4 Housing Hotel Domus Carmelitana, located near the Vatican 3-Star Hotel Rooms include mini-fridge, towels, shampoo, soap, hair dryers, Free Wi-Fi Simple, clean rooms with a bathroom An Italian breakfast buffet is included consisting of breads, cheese, meats, eggs, cereal, yogurt, fruit, & cappuccino Most people will be in a double room Do not know about the hotel in Assisi Teens will not be allowed to roam about the city without a Chaperone! 4

5 Food/Meals Breakfast is provided at the hotel Lots of pasta & pizza & gelato! However, if the camper requires a more specialized diet, they will need to get/bring their own food. 5

6 When? July 19-29, 2020 Note: It s hot in Rome in July! Note: There is a dress code, especially when visiting churches. No sleeveless shirts, no shorts, and nothing low cut is allowed in Rome churches. Note: Comfortable shoes are essential! 6

7 Some of what will we see & do? There are some things that will be seen. It will probably be a while before we see the actual schedule for this trip. 7

8 Cost $3, Includes flights (all taxes and 1 checked bag & 1 carry on bag), all transportation in Rome, all meals, hotel accommodations, site fees, & tour guide fees $ non-refundable deposit is DUE to St. Mary of Vernon by November 1, 2018 to reserve your spot $1500 is due by September 1, 2019 $1500 is due by February 1, 2020 Extra money to purchase souvenirs To secure your spot, we need the non-refundable $295 no later than 11/1. We will timestamp payments & payment forms. 1 st come, 1 st serve. There is a payment form to include with your payment. There is a chance that by 11/1 that all of the spaces through CHWC will be gone if that happens, your deposit will be refunded. Obviously, if you get your own flight, the last payment will change. There is no fundraising for this trip, with the exception of the St. Mary of Vernon Christmas Tree Sale. More information regarding that will be sent out soon. QUESTIONS YET TO ASK CHWC (based on the 10/24 Information meeting): 1- What/where is the hotel in Assisi? 2- Are their paid guides for each location? How will the group be broken up, if at all, for various tours? 3- If a family or family members go, can they room together? 4- Are teens/adults from other groups placed in rooms together? 5- Can families plan a personal vacation before or after this trip? 8
