1 THIRD CROSS BORDER MEETING ALECT R INSIDE THIS ISSUE: Third Cross Border Meeting Batumi, Georgia...1 Pilot Projects to date Third Thematic Study visit Batumi, Georgia....5 Batumi, Georgia During the period 29th July 1st August the third cross border meeting took place in Batumi, Georgia. Batumi Archaeological Museum /BAM/ was the esteemed host of the meeting as an ENPI project partner of ALECTOR. The main focus of the meeting was development and promotion of the three major deliverables notably the Open Street Museum SCRIPTORAMA, the multivision and the e-book which are the essential outcomes of the project. The project partners presented the state of the art of the local pilot projects, described in detail on page 3. The results of the e- and quali surveys were performed as for the heritage register created. The pool of heritage experts and opportunities for attraction of additional specialists within the establishment of Black Sea Heritage Observatory was also discussed. The dates for the international scientific conference were set in Istanbul, Turkey as part of ALECTOR project and hosted by GOI. Project management, administrative and financial issues were commented as well. This document has been produced with the financial assistance of the European Union. 2 page 2 PILOT PROJECTS STATE OF THE ART The pilot projects set up by the partners were presented during the third cross border meeting in Batumi. All of them represent a variety of tourist attractions and inspirations targeted to visitors interested in historic and cultural interpretation. The pilot project in Drama, Greece integrates 3 great trade routes connect the project area: The Golden Fleece Campaign, alias Argonautica, the Silk Road and the Golden Leaves. The Project explores the Golden Tobacco Era in Drama in the period of the late Ottoman Empire until the II World War. 10 locations on the historic center of Drama have been selected in an unified mode called Tobacco Parfumes. The main objective of the project in Constanta, Romania is to promote the potential of heritage resources in the Black Sea Basin and establish a unified quality system for the development of cross border and international tourism products and common service standards with acknowledged market value. The motto: 2000 years of history in two days suggests the history experience about the Romanian people legacy in general and Constanta people in particular obtained by the visitors after visiting the objective. The pilot project in Varna, Bulgaria entitled: Hundred years in sixty minutes includes 10 trail stops connected with the cultural and historic development of Varna as major industrial, naval, maritime and cultural centre from the end of XIXc. and the beginning of XX c. In the trendy moto: Varna open to the people.

3 Page 3 PILOT PROJECTS - STATE OF THE ART Moldova s terroir route Bread and Wine focuses on sites that reflect the richness and diversity of heritage resources with cultural significance and it makes an incursion into the history of ritual bread and wine. Those resources are presented in 10 locations that include museums, monasteries, ethno-cultural complexes, cave dwellings, wineries with largest cellars. Moldova proposes to highlight through a tourist route the historic, cultural, economic evolution of the zone. The Undiscovered Mystery of the Greek Heritage tourist project in Ukraine is a project which recollect the lasting history, demonstrate the culture, traditions, everyday life and many other unknown facts of the Greek settlements life in Pryazovia region. Greeks of Pryazovia established 21 villages and inhabited the city of Mariupol, which is now called a Greek capital of Ukraine. The project embraces the most interesting and vivid pages of the history of Greeks of Pryazovia. The pilot project in Georgia focuses on seaside part of Autonomous Republic of Ajara, southwestern Georgia, namely on cultural monuments and museums of Kobuleti Municipality, self-governed city of Batumi and Khelvachauri Municipality. Ten heritage sites were chosen to distinguish the rich natural and cultural assets, beaches, hills and mountains, waterfalls, gardens, flora and fauna, and many archaeological and architectural sites such as museums and settlements with very archaic traditions and buildings.

4 ` Page 4 PILOT PROJECTS - STATE OF THE ART The region of Sile, Istanbul region with its project: A lighthouse, serenades, and mermaids - Heritage of an ancient maritime town intends to develop the area s cultural and ecotourism potential. The cultural landscape largely transformed over the last decades, displaying a more homogenous ethnic composition is still rich in natural and cultural heritage which makes the whole province an attractive tourism destination for potential visitors. The focus of the pilot project A Serenade in Natural Heritage is the Ağva region nearby Istanbul. With its pristine beaches and sea, local traditions, and cultural richness, Ağva has been a popular resort location for domestic and foreign visitors over the last few decades. The project intends to actively contribute to develop it as attractive destination with significant cultural/ecotourism potential. Trabzon, an everlasting Canvas project developed in Trabzon is striving to challenge the European market, especially the senior and youth market that will produce a suffice during the non-high season. To successfully address proximate markets of Russia and Ukraine and remote Anglo-saxon markets like India, Australia and the Americas the project is offering a compelling presentation staring with pre-historic myths reaching modernity through the antiquity, the middle ages, the Ottoman Empire and Modern Turkey.

5 3 rd THEMATIC STUDY VISIT page 5 With the third cross border meeting a thematic study visit was organized for ALECTOR partnership. The project partners visited major culture historic monuments which are part of the pilot project area presented by BAM, Georgia: Batumi Technology Museum, Botanical Gardens of Batumi Batumi Archaeological Museum Modern Art Centre Museum Gonio Fort Makho Bridge Makhuntseti Bridge Koromkheti Ancient Wine Press Makhuntseti Ethnographical Museum and Falls Ajarian Wine House Thematic presentations and particular sessions were held in the Batumi Archaeological Museum and in the Modern Art Centre Museum where the participants gained explicit knowledge and information for the cultural diversity and significance of the unique local heritage. The ultimate idea is to present the pilot objects in terms of multicultural identity, collective cooperation and interpretation based on native assets and resources. The all sessions from the third cross border meeting are integrated in the HERISCOUT e-course curricula to inspire the trainees and volunteers with more collective ideas and sources which can enable them in the follow-up provision of qualified services in culture heritage tourism in a standardized mode of operation.
