1 Island Guernsey Ordinance of the States IXII Made... 14th December, Coming Into Operation... 18th December, The Prohibited and One-Way Streets OrdlDance, 1989 THE STATES, in pursuance of their Resolution of the 25th October 1989, hereby order: A person in charge of a vehicle or an animal Prohibited S h a 11 not d nve. or net 'd h at ve h' IC 1 e, or cause or streets. permit that animal to proceed, on or along a public highway specified in Schedule 1 to this Ordinance. 2. A person in charge of a vehicle or an animal One-way shall not drive or ride that vehicle, or cause or per- streets. mit that animal to proceed, on or along a public highway specified in column 1 of Schedule 2 to this Ordinance otherwise than in the direction and manner indicated in respect of that public highway in column 2 of that Schedule. 3. (1) Sections 1 and 2 of this Ordinance do not Exceptions. apply-
2 2 (a) to anything don~ in accordance with the terms of any permission given under the allthority of the Island Traffic Committee; or (b) if a prohibition or restriction is expressed in Schedule 1 or Schedule 2 to apply only in specified case!! or circumstance!!, except in those cases or circumstances. A permission for the. purposes of this Ordinance may be given either- (a) generally, or in respect of specified descriptions of drivers or vehicles, by a notice published in La Gazette Officielle; or (b) particularly, to or in respect of a specified driver or vehicle, in writing; and may in either case be subject to such restrictions and conditions as may be specified in it. Offence. Interpretation. 4. A person who contravenes this Ordinance is guilty of an offence and liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding level 3 on the uniform scale. 5. In this Ordinance- " animal" means any horse, bovine animal, ass, mule, sheep, pig or goat; " cycle" means a bicycle or a tricycle; " motorcycle" includes an alltocycle and any qcle used or adapted for use as a mechanically pmpeued vehicle; "the Signs Ordinance" means the Traffic Sign!! and Traffic Light Signals Ordinance, 1988(a); (a) O~dinance No. XV of 1988.

Any permissidn in wntmg given by the Chief Officer of the Island Police Force under any enactment repealed by this Ordinance and having effect on 17th December 1989 is deemed to have been given under the authority of the Island Traffic Committee. 7. This Ordinance may be cited as the Prohi- Citation. bited and One-Way Streets Ordinance, This Ordinance shall come into force on 18th Commence- December ment,
4 4 SCHEDULE 1 Section 1 PROHIBITED STREETS PART I ST. PETER PORT 1. Berthelot Street: This paragraph applies only to-- (i) cycles; and (ii) vehicles having a laden weight in excess of two tons. 2. (1) The Bus Terminus, South Esplanade. That part of South Esplanade forming the pedestrian precinct immediately to the West of the Bus Terminus. (3) That part of South Esplanade immediately to the North of the said pedestrian precinct on which there are marked the words "PERMITTED BUSES ONLY". 3. Les Canichers, between St. Julian's Avenue and a traffic sign of the type numbered 43 in Schedule 2 to the Signs Ordinance. 4. Church Square: This paragraph applies only to motor cycles. 5. Commercial Arcade. 6. Contree Mansell, between a traffic sign of the type numbered 50 in Schedule 2 to the Signs Ordinance and Mansell Court: This paragraph applies only to vehicles of an overall width in excess of six feet.
5 7. La Ruette des CotHs (1) Fermain Lane: This sub-paxagraph applies only to motor cycles. The portion Oof Fermain Lane between the first hairpin bend and Fermain Beam, except for access to the Chalet Hotel car park. 9. Forest Lane, except for access to the car park of the Church of Christ Scien.tist. w. La Rue des Frerea. 11. The one-way portion of Havelet (i.e. the portion of Havelet specified in paragraph 31 of Part I of Schedule 2 to this Ordinance): This paragraph applies only to vehicles of an overall width in excess of six feet six inches. 12. High Street. 13. Mansell Street, between Back Street and Mill Street. 14. Mill Street. 15. MOont Durand, between Valnord Road and Upper Mansell Street: This paragraph applies Oonly to cycles. 16. The Pollet, between Le Tourgand and Smith Street. 17. Quay Street: This, paragraph applies only to motor cycles. 18. Smith Street.

The Water Lane- (a) between La Fosse Andre and La Couture Road; (b) in the section which lies between La Couture Road and the more easterly of the two unnamed roads from Water Lane to Collings Road, between two traffic signs of the type numbered 43 in Schedule 2 to the Signs Ordinance; (c) in the section which lies betweenles Ozouets and the more westerly of the two unnamed.. roads from Collings Road to Water Lane, between two traffic signs of the type numbered 43 in Schedule 2 to the Signs Ordinance. PART II ST. ANDREW'S 1. LaRue des Courtillets, between Bouillon Road and Le Bouillon Farm (I.e. the section known as Bouillon Lane): This paragraph applies only to vehicles having a laden weight in excess of two tons. PART III CASTEL 1. La Ruette du Griffin (being the green lane to -th~ East of La Rue de la Hougue), between two traffic signs of the type numbered 19 in Schedule 1 to the Signs Ordinance: This paragraph applies 'only' to vehicles. 2. La Ruette des Cherfs (which lies between La Ruette des Corneilles and La Route de Cabo): This paragraph applies only to motor cycles.

The grass lane which runs approximately North 'West to South-East from La Ruette du Gal to La Ruette des Fenetres. PART V ST. MARTIN'S 1. La Ruette de la Bouvee, between Calais Lane and a traffic sign of the type numbered 19 in Schedule 1 to the Signs Ordinance: This paragraph applies only to vehicles. 2. La Rue au Cammus (which leads from La Rue des Grons to Ieart Road) between two traffic signs of the type numbered 43 in Schedule 2 to the Signs Ordinance: This paragraph applies only to vehicles and people riding animals. PART VI VALE 1. Douit Lane (which leads from L'Ancresse Road to La Greve Road), between two traffic signs of the type numbered 45 in Schedule 2 to the Signs Ordinance: This paragraph applies only to motor cycles. 2.
