3 Dear Southern Connecticut State University Tour Member, We share in your excitement that your trip to Portugal is finally almost here. This tour booklet provides an outline of the highlights of your trip and a detailed itinerary with flight and hotel details for you and those at home who may want to contact you. It also includes information that will be useful while you are in Portugal. All the information is subject to change due to any circumstances beyond our control. Name Badge Please wear this upon arrival in Lisbon so that our staff can recognize you and whenever you are participating in a tour program. Baggage Tags Be sure that each of your bags, including your check-in bag, has a completed KIconcerts baggage tag affixed. Other things to note: Airline Tickets Your airline ticket is an electronic ticket. A copy is not necessary for airport check-in as long as you have your passport and flight information. Passport Your passport is vital. Take care of it at all times. Do not pack it in your check-in baggage and do not leave it lying around. Keep a copy of your passport separate from your passport. 4 PERFORMANCES March 11, 2018 Exchange Concert with Coro Medico de Lisbon at Basilica da Estrela, Lisbon The Coro Medico de Lisbon (Lisbon Medical Choir) was created from the will of the medical students to keep active his artistic and musical life, demonstrating the importance of the cultural sector development to scientific and human development in building a pluripotential doctor. Founded in September of 2015, it is currently made up of 35 students from both the Faculties of Medicine of the city of Lisbon and doctors trained in them. The beautiful Basilica da Estrela was constructed as a religious obligation by Queen Mary I of Portugal after she gave birth to healthy heir to the Portuguese throne. The lovingly designed Basilica proved an insufficient offering, as Jose died two years before the final completion of the Basilica da Estrela. Mary grieved till her death and the miserable queen was buried in the basilica dedicated to her son. Page 4

5 PERFORMANCES March 14, 2018 Concert at Church of Misericordia, Porto The Igreja da Misericordia, located in Porto, Portugal is a fantastic church and a very popular attraction with visitors to the metropolis. The structure has a history which begins in the 1500s. Even though the building has gone through several renovations over the years, there are still many of the original elements showing upon examination of the church. The façade is reminiscent of the Baroque style of architecture and was added in the 1700s. Tourists will enjoy exploring the museum inside the building which exhibits many 15th century artworks and artifacts. Southern Connecticut State University Page 5

6 PERFORMANCES March 17, 2018 Exchange Concert with Coro Vox Albuhera and the Children s Choir of the Conservatory of Music in Albufeira at Parish Church Nossa Senhora da Conceição, Albufeira Coro Vox Albuhera began in 2012 in the Albufeira cultural panorama under the aegis of the Albufeira Conservatory and its conductor José Alves Dias hand. From March 2016, the Choir is conducted by Paulo Sopa. Coro Vox Albuhera proposes a musical trip through the coral music from the Renaissance to contemporary pieces. Their repertoire is bright and includes classical and sacred music as well as joyful pieces full of energy and movement closer to modern sonorities and tones. The Parish Church of Albufeira is dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Conceição (Our Lady of the Conception) and was built in1782 replacing the previous church destroyed in the 1755 earthquake. With its tall belltower the church is a landmark in Albufeira, the interior has a single nave and there are four side altars with two 18th century statues of São Luís (St Louis) and São Pedro (St Peter).
