1 Route: Portugal (2016) Some wonderful highlights of my trip in Portugal. We've spend 2,5 months in Portugal traveling around and living the good life in our camper. The trip started in the Algarve and ended in the North of Portugal. Duur: 19 uur 54 min Afstand: 1741 km

2 Rua de Vista Real , Praia Marinha The Marinha beach is a fantastic place to relax and the environment well into your record. The yellow rock cliffs are a picture and the view never bored. Besides the beach you can walk here. There are countless paths that you each time discovered a new piece. Unnamed Road, 8400 Lagoa, Portugal , With low tide you can in some places over the rocks in order to arrive at a private beach. Ecovia do Litoral , Praia do Amoreira From Aljezur Praia do Amoreira be reached within ten minutes. The winding road up to it is fun. Arriving at the parking lot at the beach you see a cafe. Right from the cafe at the bottom of the cliffs is an imposing rock in a pyramid shape. The dunes around this beach is an ideal location for long walks. But also along the river, which flows into the sea, may well be walked ,

3 Hike PR 4 MTL, Minas de São Domingos This is a fine hike to fill half a day. From the village of Minas de Sao Domingos start the route. The trail is well marked and passes a few points such as the lake, the church of the village and also a number of viewpoints. Enjoy the green hills and the Portuguese countryside. Only sad thing is that the lake is not central to this route. N265, 7750, Portugal , Abandoned and dilapidated farm where the orange and lemon tree still gives fruit. Chapel of Bones The Chapel of Bones (Capela dos Ossos) in Evora is as the name suggests, a (church) chapel decorated with human bones and skulls. It was a room for meditation and prayer and to show what will become of you when dead. The inscription at the entrance reads; "We bones that are here, we are waiting for yours". The bones used to decorated the chapel came from the local graveyard (an estimated 5000). R. da República 72, Évora, Portugal , Charges: 1-10 euro The Chapel of Bones is now part of a (small) museum. Tickets for the Chapel of Bones include a visit to the museum. Besides bones to decorate the Chapel two desiccated corpses, one of which is a child, dangle from ropes.

4 Time Out - Foodmarket The Time Out takes the food market concept to a whole other level. Good food in all price categories. Cheap pizza slices tuna burgers, sushi, croquettes (Portugal style) and everything in between. The food is selected from the Time Out market, tasted (and tested) by an independent group of experts. So you know what you get is great! Av. 24 de Julho 50, Lisboa, Portugal , Charges: euro The croquettes are amazing (and traditional) as food are the tuna burger from the sea. Getting a seat is the hard part, however, it is often quite busy (usually between 19: 00-22: 00). The food market is open on most days until 00:00. Monument to the Discoveries Monument to the Discoveries (Padrão dos Descobrimentos) is a monument commemorating the Portuguese explorers who have explored the world in the 15th and 16th century. The monument is 52 meters high and shows 33 figures from the Portuguese Age of Discovery, with Henry the Navigator on its edge. On the square behind the monument is a Mappa mundi, showing the routes of Portuguese carracks and caravels during the Age of Discovery. Padrão dos Descobrimentos, Portugal , More information: The monument is a relax place to sit and relax and watch the scenery. With the Ponte de 25 Abril on the background, boats passing by there is never a dull moment.

5 Belem Tower Once build as part of the defence system of Lisbon in the middel of the Tagus river. Due to an earthquake the tower is now closer to the Lisbon shore. The Belem Tower is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as of its importance in Portuguese maritime discoveries. But besides that, its an awesome structure to look at and enjoy the evening sun , More information: The bases of the turrets have images of beasts, including a rhinoceros. Its hard to spot, but the details on the Belem Tower are a work of art. You can go into the tower, not sure how much this costs. Palacio de Pena Palacio de Pena is almost a theme park for adults. Roller coasters are not required for a visit to this colorful palace gives the same feeling. Around the palace is a large garden / park where you can walk. The views are too fat and if you are also going to the palace you can see how the King and Queen have previously lived. The entrance fee is pricey but it is doubly well spent. Estrada da Pena, Sintra, Portugal , Charges: euro The favorite spot of the Queen is a stone throne. From here the view is stunning.

6 Most western point in Europe The views and sunset are amazing from the most western point of continental Europe (and Portugal). Although it is quite an attraction, busses come and go, there are some nice spots to be found to enjoy the scenery. The walkway on the other side of the lighthouse has some great views on the cliffs as well , More information: Go early if you want to have Cabo da Roca for yourself. The first bus arrives around 08:30 the last leaves around 22:00. Obidos, ommuurde stad Obidos is worth a visit. Yes it is touristy but that's okay. Take a walk on the city wall and look out over this lovely village. The castle extends above everything and is not to be missed. The aqueduct is impressive. Calçada da Misericórdia, Óbidos, Portugal , you can visit a chocolate festival here from late March to mid-april. Yum! Klooster van Alcobaça The monastery of Santa Maria d'alcobaça is on UNESCO's World Heritage List. The architectural style is executed with precise and sculptured ornaments symbolize the human fate, death and the Christian hope of eternal life , Charges: 1-10 euro Please note the opening hours: October to March 9:00 to 18:00 and April to September 9:00 to 19:00

7 Conimbriga - Roman ruins The Conimbriga (near Coimbra) is one of my best visits in Portugal. It gives a clear impression on what the roman village should have looked like in that time (28 b.c a.c.). But maybe even more impressive are the mosaic floors that have been preserved. The details are astonishing. The Conimbriga was an important village during the Roman era and even before that. Just go! R. das Ruínas 7, 3150 Condeixa-a-Velha, Portugal , Charges: 1-10 euro The mosaic floors, especially those in the swastikaroom and the chamber of fountains, are astonishing. Conimbriga is worth the visit just for them. The entree fee is 4,50 p.p. and are half priced for students. Opening hours are 10:00-18:00 almost every day. Coimbra Coimbra's history dates back to the middle ages when it was the capital of Portugal. Its home to the oldest university of Portugal (and one of the oldest in Europe). Probably due to the university there is an chilled out vibe. Chill in the park, visit one of the many bars/cafes or the monuments in the historic city centre. Highlights are; the university, library, the cathedral and a monastery. Pte. de Santa Clara 150, Coimbra, Portugal , More information: Make sure to walk through the small streets up the hill. Stumble upon view points and hidden bars. The park alongside the river is the place to enjoy the sun ,
