4 Tourist Info. Public Transport Malta s public transport system offers a cheap and efficient way of touring the Island. The main bus terminus is in Valletta from where buses operate to all parts of Malta, although there are also direct, point to point, services. The cost of a bus route ranges from 47 to 57 euro cents. The longest bus journey takes about fifty minutes; the average ride is between 20 and 30 minutes. Driving Driving is on the left. There is a speed limit of 80kms per hour on arterial roads and 40kph in urban areas. Boat Hire Canoes, rowing boats, sailing boats, pedalos and speedboats are available for hire from a number of operators in the more popular seaside resorts. Larger vessels and yachts are also available for charter. 4 Events Malta

7 Re-enactments In Guardia A historical re-enactment that portrays an authentic historical event. This is the regular inspection of the fort and garrison by the Grand Bailiff of the Order of the Knights of St. John in charge of military affairs. During the re-enactment the fort's garrison (some 70 in all) is dressed in its best uniforms to demonstrates to the Grand Bailiff its military prowess. The duration of the show is of roughly 40 minutes. Fort St. Elmo, Valletta 4, 11, 25 October, 11am. Tickets: 5 adults, 3 children between the ages or 6 and 12. All Buses , Malta Military Tattoo The 6th Malta Military Tattoo will provide an entertaining atmosphere of precision marching, formation and gymnastic displays and above all good music. Following the success of previous events and the Tattoo's growing reputation, this year's show promises to be the biggest ever presented and will definitely again be one of the top events in Malta for The 2009 Malta Tattoo will include bands from The Netherlands, Malta, United Kingdom and Denmark. 8 Re-enactments A Maltese Wedding Organised by the Qrendi Local Council in collaboration with the Parliamentary Secretary for Public Dialogue and Information. Qrendi Main Square, Qrendi 17 October 35, 38 ALARME The 50 minute re-enactment portrays military skirmishes between Maltese militia and Napoleon s troops aided by a narration that describes the historical background of The re-enactment unfolds in a series of dramatized scenes that depict the arrival of the French, their administration of Malta, the Maltese rebellion and the arrival of the British Troops that led to the French surrender. The re-enactments are held according to schedule, however, in case of inclement weather or else due to some unforeseen circumstance the event may be cancelled without undue notice. 9 Heritage National Museum of Natural History The 18th century Magisterial Palace of Justice currently holds over 10,000 rocks and minerals, over 3,500 birds, eggs and nests, 200 mammals, over 200 fish species and thousands shells and insects. 10 Heritage Hal Saflieni Hypogeum This UNESCO World Heritage monument consists of halls, chambers and passages cut in rock. Together with Cypriot ceramists from The Cyprus Ceramists and Potters Association, they will be showcasing the works of some of the best modern ceramists working on these islands. The group use craft skills, which form an integral part of the Maltese and Gozitan heritage and culture, to design and make contemporary functional and decorative one-off pieces. Recently formed, the Choir has already performed in various localities on the islands, earning a very good reputation Oct 2009: Drama Antigone by Theatre Studio West (London). Featuring highly acclaimed artistic director and actress Julie Saunders this is a classical drama as retold by Jean Anouilh and adapted by Saunders in a new dynamic version. 16 Performances APS Bank 2009 Flagship Concert With the co-operation of the Metropolitan Cathedral Chapter and St John s Co-Cathedral Foundation a concert will be held, with the participation of tenor Charles Vincenti; bass baritone Albert Buttigieg, Kor Mirabitur under Simone Attard, the Junge Philharmonie Brandenburg of Berlin, under the direction of Hans-Jurgen Nagel. The concert will propose the world premiere of Albert Pace s composition Ghanjiet ta Bniedem Solitarju (Songs of a Lonely Man), the prize-winning entry in the APS Bank 2007 Open Competition. All Buses Magnificat - Choral Concert The New Choral Singers will be presenting Magnificat, a choral concert in aid of The Malta Hospice Movement on the occasion of World Hospice & Palliative Care Day Amongst other compositions the Choir will be performing Antonio Vivaldi s Magnificat and the Salve Regina by Franz Josef Haydn, this year marking the bicentenary of the death of the celebrated Austrian composer. Closing himself off to the world, Steve cannot confide in his parents, girlfriend or friends and so turns to gay trainee social worker Chris and his boyfriend Rob for help. 19 Festivals Notte Bianca An all night celebration of arts and culture with a great emphasis on the contemporary trend. The target is to create a unique experience whilst making the sphere of arts and culture accessible to all. This celebration will consist of art, music, drama, sculpture, dance, film, photography, fashion, interactive shows and displays, visual installations, tours, re-enactments, exhibitions, shopping, dining and clubbing. Locations and venues for this event include museums, theatres, arts and cultural centres, libraries, churches, chapels, historical sites, Auberges, cinemas, squares, streets, shops, arcades, markets, beverage and catering outlets. Valletta 3 & 4 October All Buses The Qala International Folk Festival Organised by the Qala Local Council. There will be dance shows from foreign folk groups and local folk groups including the Menhir Qala Folk Group, a crafts exhibition which will be held on Sunday and a re-enactment of It-Tieg Malti. On Friday various dance shows will be held in Malta by foreign folk groups & the Menhir Qala Folk Group. St. Joseph Square, Qala, Gozo 8-11 October 42, 43 Birgufest The Birgufest is a three-day event in the quaint harbour town of Birgu (also known as Vittoriosa). One of the highlights of the festivities is the Birgu by Candle Light, when the streets and narrow lanes of Birgu are deprived of their normal electricity lights to be lit instead by thousands of candles. It is a night to remember when Birgu is literally seen under a different light and appreciated even more for its historical heritage. Traditional and more commercial food stalls fill the square and some museums and churches are open until late. Musical entertainment is the highlight of the evening, which is usually held in Victory Square. Vittoriosa 9-11 October , A Night in Casal Fornaro The old village of Qormi, is steeped in tradition, but is most famed for their delicious traditional Maltese bread. The village is dotted with no less than 50 bakeries and early in the morning the smell of baking is heart breaking. There is nothing nicer than a warm slice of bread with butter melting deliciously or otherwise dressed with tomato and olive oil, the traditional hobz biz-zejt. In honour of this age-old baking tradition, the village of Qormi comes alive, with traditional music, art and food stalls. 21 Festivals Chocolate Festival Organised by the Hamrun Local Council in the streets of Hamrun, next to Kuncizzjoni Church. The event will consist of re-enactment of chocolate products, popular during the Grand Master Pinto, especially hot drinking chocolate. On stage there will be local artists, an artisan market, a jazz band, and folk singing. The In Guardia group will perform the re-enactment with the scouts band. 23 Sport Malta Open Indoor Rowing Championships Lakes Indoor Rowing Club will for the 4th year running, be organising the Malta Open Indoor Rowing Championships. The organising committee has once again decided to combine this event with a just cause of raising much needed funds for the Muscular Dystrophy society in Malta, hence the motto Rowing for a Cause.
