2 Welcome letter We are happy to announce that we are having our Summer School of Emergency Medicine, where you can expect to expand your knowledge one you might not find in your textbooks. The Mantenegro Summer School of Emergency Medicine will be held in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro and in National park Durmitor, in Žabljak. We will focus on the practical training, especially on the most necessary skills in the Emergency Department; suturing, CPR, ECG interpretation, Glasgow Coma Score evaluation, preparation of a sterile surgical field, tracheotomy, phlebotomy and many other manipulations and techniques that are crucial in every emergency situation. The lectures and workshops will be held by our professors and their assistants who will present the latest guidelines and share with us their up-to-date information from their specialty that is applicable in emergent and urgent situations. We also haven t forgot about the social program either. The Summer School will be a time of learning, having fun, doing exciting activities, making friends, and enjoying one of the most stunning cities of Europe, where history and modern times collide to give us a one-of-a-kind experience. 3 Welcome to Montenegro The picturesque country of Montenegro is a country situated in the southeastern part of Europe. Montenegro has for its neighbors the countries of Serbia to the northeast, Kosovo to the east, Albania to the southeast, Croatia to the west and Bosnia and Herzegovina to the northwest. The country of Montenegro, apart for its scenic mountains, is also known for its out-of-theworld beaches that owe their existence to the proximity that the country enjoys with the Adriatic Sea. Facts about Montenegro Montenegro is the first ecological country in the world. The oldest tree in Europe lives in Montenegrin city Bar: the Old Olive Tree is over 2,000 years old. The monastery Ostrog is one of the biggest sanctuaries in the world. It is visited by people of all religions. Name Montenegro in Montenegrin language literally translates to Black Mountain? There are five national parks, including Durmitor, Lovcen, Biogradska Gora, Prokletije and Skadar Lake. Length of the sea coast is 293 km with 117 beaches. The longest beach: Velika plaža (Ulcinj) - 13 km. The road from the beginning plateau for climbing on to the Njegos`s mausoleum is made of numerous stony stairway (from the foot up to the entrance into the mausoleum there are 461 staircases). The Bay of Kotor region is under the protection of UNESCO due to its very rich cultural heritage. Useful information Currency: Euro Language: Montenegrin, Serbian. 4 Preventive Educational Center PEC is founded in since then we are growing as an NGO in national and international levels. As proof of this, PEC was officially called upon by the government to organize the events and promotion of Health, we published the first student s textbook for medical students and we are the main partner with the Montenegrin Institute for Public Health for the Prevention of AIDS program. Beside that, we traditionally organize Teddy Bear Hospital, and also promote healthy lifestyle during: World Hearth Day, World Diabetes Day, World Kidney Day.

5 About summer school It is a privilege to present you Montenegro Summer School This is a project that brings together students from all around the world interested in gaining and exchanging knowledge in the field of emergency medicine. The main theme of the project is emergency medicine and it consists of the following topics: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ILS course conducted by ERC instructors) Traumatic Brain Injury Basic surgical skills Pediatric emergencies Management of trauma patient Diverse emergencies (drowning, poisoning, hypothermia, etc.) Principles of critical medical thinking The scientific part is composed of lectures, interactive seminars, practical skills and daily cases. Every student will have a chance to renew and expand his/her knowledge, as well as master new skills. After lectures each day, planned for you are daily activities which allow you to experience the city s ancient architecture and Mediterranean charm. And of course, there is plenty of free time to go do whatever you want. On the final day with a written exam and a certificate of attendance, which is handed to each participant at a closing ceremony. Evaluation of the school is made through a questionnaire which grades all the segments (accommodation and venue, lectures, seminars, workshops, cultural and social life, lecturers and the organizing committee). The number of participants is limited for the purpose of achieving a better quality of work in small groups using an individual approach.

6 About Accommodation First, I would like to give you few information about your place of lodging. You will all be placed in a student flat, which is new one and near to your venue where you will have lectures and workshops. It is also 5 min walking from the restourant Here is gallery of accommodation ( index.php/o-nama/galerija ), and you will be together with all students on exchange. On every floor there is kitchen that you can use 24h. There`s Wi-Fi in every room and there`s no need to bring sheets and pillows or anything accept some basic dishes, iron, tea pot or something like that. Also, in student flat is laundry room. If there will be any changes we will let you know in advance.

7 About Social Program We decided to show you in this social program some parts of Montenegero. We are not so big country but, believe us, 10 days is too short to see everything you need to see when you come here, in this wild beauty,so we chose couple tours to scratch the surface of everything. Students usually visit 5-6 cities and enjoy on the see and mountains of Montenegro. Here are some places that you will visit trough Social program

11 About Zabljak We will spent 3 days of summer school in National Park Durmitor, in Žabljak. Accommodation and food are included in Registration fee. We will visit Black lake and Tara bridge (the deepest canyon in Europe) and the biggest zip line in Europe.
