2 The WHO and EU SHIPSAN ACT training course entitled Training course on International Health Regulations Ship Sanitation Certificates is designed for employees responsible for conducting ship inspections and for issuance of ship sanitation certificates according to the International Health Regulations. Course objectives Ship inspection and issuance of SSC By the end of the course, trainees will be able to: Perform ship sanitation inspection according to technical and ethical standards; Collect relevant documents and data in each technical area; Perform on-site measurements; Assess risk based on relevant findings; Recommend control measures; Communicate results (findings and control measures recommended); and issue ship sanitation certificates. Prerequisites Trainees: Before the course e-learning: Assigned to the responsibility to perform ship inspections and issuance of SSC according to the IHR Available to achieve e-learning course before face-to-face course Fluency in the language of instruction Completed the e-learning course on Ship Sanitation Inspection prior to the course The successful completion of the WHO e-learning course is a prerequisite for your participation to the face-to-face course in Nordic countries. 2

3 Training course schedule Day 1: IHR Legal background and theoretical training on organizing the inspection and on inspection techniques and hygiene issues Day 2: o Practical training on a cargo ship and issuing a SSC o Completion of SSC and evidence report form Day 3: EU SHIPSAN ACT Joint Action: Passenger ship inspections according to the European Manual for Hygiene Standards and Communicable Diseases Surveillance on passenger ships Course assessment An anonymous assessment will take place at the beginning and at the end of the training course. The assessment will be 20 minutes long and will include multiple choice and short answer questions covering the topics discussed on the course. Aim of the assessment: It is not to a pass or fail exam for the participants, but a tool to give them a better idea of their abilities and progress. Course evaluation At the end of each day and at the end of the course, each trainee will be asked to complete evaluation questionnaires. The aim of the evaluation is to receive feedback, in order to improve the course content, material and organisation. This will help to modify future courses in order to fit inspector s professional needs. 3
