It s an extraordinary, magical meeting, one which might look surreal and like something out of a fairy tale but staged in a real-life setting, and it s a sight that the select attendees of the Monaco Yacht Show can marvel at for themselves. Centre stage is a superyacht presented on her world debut, with the mythical unicorn clearly in view alongside the stylised logo of the seagull. The first was chosen as the dreamlike, imaginative personal symbol of the inspired Owner of the vessel, while the second represents the unique Baglietto brand, which has been building yachts for over one and a half centuries. Just as flawless pure bright white is the natural colour of both these creatures, so is Baglietto s new superyacht painted all white. The yacht was launched by the Italian shipyard at the start of this year in the presence of her European Owner. On behalf of the Owner, project management for this project was provided from design through to construction by Dutch expert Wim C. Koersvelt and his specialist company YCCC, which supervised the complex work involved in the creation of this new superyacht, hull number 10219, at every stage. The vessel has naval architecture and marine engineering developed in-house by Baglietto s technical office, and was built based on the tried and tested Baglietto 53- metre naval platform with a displacement hull and a steel and aluminium build. This was the platform previously used to create famous superyachts notably including Blue Scorpion, Gitana and Baraka, and the new Unicorn with her length of 54 metres is a logical and crucially a sophisticated evolution of it. This is the case not just in terms of technology but also aesthetics, with the superyacht s appearance clearly revealing a reinterpretation of the time-honoured, recognisable stylistic elements of the Baglietto tradition, but revisited in a fresh new way through the skilful introduction of innovative modern elements. 163

At the same time, then, Unicorn also represents a tangible, vivid foretaste of the careful restyling work that is being undertaken not just on Baglietto s displacement line but in fact on the Italian

These key points provided the basis for the creation of Unicorn the successful result of a well-established, very long-standing cooperation between Baglietto and Francesco Paszkowski Design, which, in addition to the overall project concept, also created the superyacht s interior design in association with Margherita Casprini. However, the Owner made a substantial personal contribution to defining the style of Unicorn s interiors, which are a profound reflection of the Owner s individual look, expressed with determination in the artistic creative process for the new superyacht s fittings. It is a very intriguing route to perfecting a flawless balance in the décor, which the Owner wanted to approach consciously together with Eric Kuster and Sandrine Adeline, his Dutch personal interior designer and his French décor designer of choice. Like the Owner, the fittings throughout Unicorn have a unique, unmistakable personality infused with prestigious, markedly refined luxury, exclusive elegance and complete harmony, all skilfully composed in a surprising, wonderful symphony that is classically inspired but has some decidedly contemporary notes. The sharp contrast amplified by the large windows that provide abundant natural light between the dark colours used for the velvet claddings of the vertical surfaces and the light colours used for the horizontal surfaces, such as the bright white of the ceilings or the cream of the carpeted and bleached oak floors, was chosen as the main theme for the interiors. The oak, in a high gloss lacquer finish, is paired with the silver-grey velvet of the curtains and upholstery of the sofas, while antiqued vintage-effect leather is combined with diamond-effect panels, artisanal brush-finish lacquers and sheets of exquisite Nero Marquina marble. Unicorn is laid out over four decks. The large sun deck has a huge area protected by the hard top, as well as a panoramic sunbathing area with sun pads and a swimming pool, an al fresco dining area with a table THE VESSEL HAS NAVAL ARCHITECTURE AND MARINE ENGINEERING DEVELOPED IN-HOUSE BAGLIETTO S TECNICAL OFFICE for 12 and a lounge area for relaxation laid out with sofas and chairs, all served by a bar, grill and barbecue. Outside on the bridge deck, the fore deck is fitted out as a technical area to store the pair of Castoldi tenders, one 7 metres / 23 feet long, the other 6 metres / 20 feet long, while the aft deck is covered by the overhanging deck above and has an al fresco dining area with a table for 12 and a lounge area for relaxation laid out with sofas and coffee tables. This space is served by a bar. Inside on the bridge deck, the sky lounge is laid out as a home cinema with sofas, while the lift lobby and the pantry are located amidships together with the captain s cabin with its own en suite bathroom, and the wheelhouse area occupies a forward position, featuring truly noteworthy instrumentation, space and visibility. Outside on the main deck, the aft deck is covered by the overhanging deck above and has a cocktail lounge area with sofas and chairs. Inside on the main deck, an entrance and reception area leads to the salon, which has a living area laid out with sofas and armchairs arranged around coffee tables, and a dining area with a table for 12. The pantry and galley are located amidships together with the lift lobby and a day head, and the Owner s suite occupies a forward position, featuring a private study and master stateroom with en suite bathroom. The private guest accommodation is located on the lower deck amidships, arranged around the lift lobby, with three VIP staterooms and one guest stateroom with two beds; each stateroom has its own en suite bathroom. The crew quarters are located forward, including a crew mess, one engineer s cabin and four crew cabins, while the engine room and control room are located to aft, and a fully equipped gym with a Turkish bath and a day head are positioned in the stern.
