2 Cement Carrier Cristina Masaveu After more than 20 years without any new building project, ASTANDER has carried out the construction of a modern cement carrier for the Spanish Company TUDELA VEGUIN. The vessel is equipped with the most sophisticated technologies available in the market, this makes that the final product is one of the most advanced cement carriers in the world. The vessel has been designed and built as self loading/unloading carrier for the transport of bulk cement in four cargo holds divided each one in two cargo spaces (Ps, Stb). The ship has been built for the Spanish Company Tudela Veguin. Here above the logo of one of the most emblematic companies in the transport of cement. The ship is loading by gravity, using a system with endless screws and air-cushion devices. Unloading is done by aeration boxes to fluidize the cement, endless screws to bring the cement from the cargo hold to the upper part, and pumps to send the cement ashore. The propulsion plant is equipped with 2 Wartsila main engines medium speed; with a reduction gear and only one tail shaft and controllable pitch propeller. To the reduction gear are connected two shaft generators, with enough capacity each one for normal unloading operations. Main Characteristics Length, oa m. Length, bp m. Beam m. Depth 9.50 m. The vessel going out for sea trials at the bay of Santander.

3 The vessel during sea trials reaches over 15 knots, although the specification states that the speed should exceed 14 knots. The vessel was constructed in accordance with the regulations of Lloyd s Register of shipping, and she was classified +100 A1, Cement Carrier, + LMC, UMS, NAV I, Ice Class 1A, EP.

4 Cristina Masaveu Accommodation 20 new individual cabins were built, 5 of them with office, and 3 with living room. Including officers and crew s rooms, dinning rooms, sauna and gymnasium, all according to the highest quality standards. Cabins and spaces in general are decorated with light coloured materials, and the furniture arrangement was made to avoid unnecessary spaces. The kitchen with an area of around 30 m 2 is of modern design, well equipped and easy to clean, with direct access to the refrigerated chambers and dinning rooms. Bridge The bridge has been provided with new generation equipment; since there, the main operations can be done. A full integrated design in the front consoles makes it free of obstacles and comfortable.

5 Cargo The ship is equipped with a full automatic loading/unloading system designed by HW Carlsen. The loading is done by a gravity system at a maximum rate of T/h. The ship is equipped with a mechanical system combined with a pneumatic one for unloading; been the maximum rate 600T/h. The cargo operations are controlled from the cargo control room in the cargo area, and remotely operated also from a console located into accommodation. Above we can see one of the cargo holds. The bottom of the holds are covered by aeration boxes to fluidize the cement before the unloading. General view of the cargo room, with all components.

6 Cristina Masaveu Engine room The rudder is moved with a Rolls Royce electro-hydraulic steering gear, type SR742 FPC. The maximum angle of the rudder is 38 º in each side. The steering gear is operated from the bridge, and in case of emergency locally with the solenoid valves. Rudder and rudder stock are supplied also by the same company. General view of the engine room (lower floor). Two auxiliary diesel generators are installed in the engine room. The power is 400V / 50 Hz. Each one has a power of 495 kw at r.pm. Engine is Caterpillar C-18 and generator is Stamford HCM 634 G. General view of the engine room (upper floor), with some operators carrying out the last minute revision before sea trials.

7 Another view of the engine room with both main engines at the bottom and shaft generators. Two four stroke main engines Wartsila 6L32 of 3000 Kw. At 750 r.p.m are installed. The shaft generators are Siemens type 1 FG A reduction gear with two inlets, type Renk NDSHL-2500, and three outlets, 2 P.T.O. and 1 tail shaft with controllable pitch propeller.
