4 STRONGER THAN In 2013, more than 1100 organizations and thousands of employees participated in a United Way workplace campaign to help change lives in Winnipeg. That s why United Way workplace campaigns are so important to our community and to me personally. It s how I first connected to United Way. After graduating from university and going to work at Manitoba Hydro, a colleague and United Way volunteer asked me to make a donation. I was happy to help. The idea of collective action for a common benefit really appealed to me. 2 UNITED WAY SALUTE 2013

5 EVER IN 2014! Since then, I have seen firsthand the impact of our support for United Way and an essential network of programs and resources one that helps families meet basic needs in the short term, while equipping Winnipeggers with the tools and confidence to affect real and lasting change for good and for the good of our entire community. So that one day, those who ve been helped will be in a position to help others. Now today, all these years later, as I step into my new role as Chair of United Way s 2014 campaign, I see the bigger picture too: the opportunities that lie ahead for a safer, stronger Winnipeg, where poverty is a thing of the past; where every child is resilient and ready to learn; where no Winnipegger is homeless and we all have a sense of belonging; a place where we all can live with dignity, respect, and a network of support. Even as our city changes and grows and evolves, one thing remains certain: we will always be stronger together. Thank you for helping make real change possible. 7 CAMPAIGN CHAIR S AWARD 2013 Campaign Chair Steve Chipman presented one of 10 Campaign Chair s Awards to Resolute Technology Solutions represented by (l to r) Betty Bogovic, Kerry Brass and Rodney DeVos at United Way s 2013 Celebration. Driven by the same dedication to corporate citizenship, the team at Resolute Technology Solutions succeeded in growing their 2013 United Way workplace campaign to 100% participation and new levels in individual giving, earning a Campaign Chair s Award in the process. 8 CAMPAIGN CHAIR S AWARD Ron Brown, Robyn Peters and Heather Black accepted their award on behalf of Boys & Girls Clubs. Boys & Girls Clubs of Winnipeg Each year, employees at Boys & Girls Clubs of Winnipeg (BGCW) run a workplace campaign to support some of the very same programs and services they help deliver as part of an essential network of community organizations and United Way partnerships. Demonstrating the leadership they inspire among children and youth, BGCW has become a role model for other workplace campaigns with their well-deserved Campaign Chair s Award in We are not just Boys & Girls Clubs employees, we are Winnipeggers too, said Ron Brown, President and CEO. Because of the work we do, we have an up-close perspective of the challenges and opportunities that exist in our communities. 18 CORPORATE MATCH For many years now, the employees at Wawanesa s Winnipeg office have enthusiastically run and supported an annual United Way workplace campaign. Their commitment to United Way is one of the main reasons we match our employees donations dollar for dollar, said Jeff Goy, VP of Corporate Development. 37 DAY Of CARING Winnipeggers pitch in for new Men s Resource Centre When it comes to moving, it s always nice to have friends you can rely on for help. That was the case when the Laurel Centre s innovative Men s Resource Centre moved to its new location on Pulford Street to expand services and help more men in Winnipeg resolve past trauma and change their lives for the better.
