On the heels of one of the most challenging campaigns in history, Winnipeggers stepped up to raise over $18.9 million dollars for our community through United Way in In United Way s annual Salute to Organizations, we recognize the community minded businesses and organizations who, through workplace campaigns, employee donation matching, and corporate giving, inspired unprecedented support for the campaign and ensured stability and continuity of service for a network of almost 100 agency partners. We also recognize Pacesetters, organizations that begin campaigns particularly early in the year and create excitement and momentum for the rest of the city. Because of you, kids in Winnipeg are safe from the threat of crime, drugs and life on the streets; families are achieving greater financial stability and gaining hope for the future; and more people than ever are playing a role in making our community a stronger, safer and healthier place to live. 33 DAY OF CARING At The North West Company, we have a proud relationship with United Way which spans over 20 years. We have participated in the Days of Caring program for several years, and in 2010, we wanted to do something very special. Partnering with Boys and Girls Clubs of Winnipeg, we had over 140 volunteers from across our organization spend a week building a vegetable garden in Gilbert Park. While our Days of Caring project lasted only five days, participating in this project made a life-long impression on everyone involved as we witnessed first-hand how United Way agencies can change lives in our city.
