2 30 Years of Beacon Foundation This year we celebrate 30 years of Beacon Foundation s operations. We ve achieved a great deal in this time to support young Australians transition from education to meaningful employment by building connections between industry, educators and the community. 30 years on, we operate in a labour market in which being work ready has never been more important. Research conducted for the World Economic Forum found that almost 75% of educators felt that they were preparing young people for the workforce. But, 55% of students and 60% of employers disagreed. So, what is Beacon Foundation doing about it? Our innovative approach to program delivery has allowed us to reach more young people than ever before. In 2017 Beacon foundation reached, connected and inspired 19,229 students to think about their futures. Why are we raising funds and what will the funds be used for? All proceeds will fund Beacon Foundation s online and in-person programs for students from disadvantaged locations across Australia. Our aim is to prepare and motivate young people for a successful post-secondary school transition. We need your support to continue the delivery, review and continuous improvement of our work. What we do Keep young people engaged at school Prepare them for work through targeted programs and industry mentoring Work in less advantaged communities where young people are most vulnerable How will we raise funds? In partnership with Tour de Office, Beacon Foundation is supporting an engaging and motivating wellness initiative for our corporate partners & supporters. Cycling on a stationary bike in an office or simply being a supporter of someone cycling in an office builds strong team spirit. We hope you will join our 30 year celebration by signing up for Tour de Office in your workplace. We also have a special challenge for CEOs to take on our Beacon Foundation CEO, Scott Harris and see if they can become Australia s Fastest CEO on a bike with the winner taking home a framed Tour de Office jersey. 3 Since 2011, Tour de Office has been working with Australian organisations to: Raise awareness about health & wellbeing in the workplace Research shows that increased activity lowers the risk of death by preventable diseases by 50% Deliver employee engagement opportunities A cycle relay challenge designed for all fitness levels, the event caters for mass participation. It creates a sense of fun and energy in the workplace and encourages staff to get involved and set their own goals. Raise their profiles within the community Demonstrate the value of your staff and your support for great community causes such as Beacon Foundation. This event will provide a vehicle to interact with client and suppliers in a unique way. Fundraise for worthwhile charities such as Beacon Foundation Raise valuable funds for Beacon s High Impact Programs, online mentoring through MyRoad Riders can set their own fundraising goals Raise donations by sharing a link with friends & family Fundraising is not linked to how long or how far you ride for (except the CEO Challenge). 4 Tour de Office provides you with all you need to successfully run the event in your organisation. Our pricing plans are designed to suit a variety of budgets. How it works 1 It all starts with a bike, set up on a stationary wind trainer in the office. 2 The Tour de Office bike app collects riders distance data from the bike. 3 The whole event is streamed via webcam so supporters can watch the riders. 5 Tour de Office brought employees together from across the organisation a healthy competitive spirit developed alongside the camaraderie of striving together to support a good cause. Both participants and spectators walked away with an enhanced sense of wellbeing, and a greater awareness of Origin Foundation as well as the wonderful work of our charity partner, the Beacon Foundation.
