1 Your stay at Wild Boar Wood We look forward to welcoming you to Wild Boar Wood. To get things off to a smooth and relaxing start, here is some useful information about: Arrival and departure What we provide with our bell tent accommodation What you will need to bring Our Eco Camp UK campsite philosophy, rules and woodland etiquette Safety on the campsite Communication and getting around Things to do during your stay Arrival and departure Arrival times are between 3pm and 8pm. When you arrive at the car park drop- off point (just inside the car park gate) please call the wardens on and they will come up to meet you. The campsite is a short walk across a field from the car park so the wardens will provide wheelbarrows and assistance to help bring your belongings on site. They will also advise where to park your car. The bell tent must be vacated by 12pm on a weekend or by 11am on a weekday on the departure date. Alternative times can occasionally be arranged on request. Please let us know if you expect to arrive late. What we provide with your bell tent booking A four- metre bell tent on a raised platform. Inside the tent: Double memory foam mattress and additional fold- out beds, cool box, enamelware plates and bowls, cutlery, cooking utensils, barbecue utensils, corkscrew, mugs, cafetiere, salad bowl, two wine glasses, cooking pan, wok, sharp knives, Kevlar glove, eco torch (wind up), matches. Outside the tent: Picnic table, eco wood- burning stove or rocket stove (for outdoor use), kettle, water dispenser, barbecue grill, two camping chairs, rubbish bin with bin liner, one bag of firewood per night (additional firewood is available to purchase). In our communal facility areas: Toilet paper, biodegradable dishwashing liquid, body wash and hand wash. What you need to bring Required: Duvet or sleeping bags, pillows and pillowcases, bed sheets, towels, tea towels, food and drink, torches and lanterns, suitable clothing and footwear (wellies etc). Recommended: Foil/cling film/kitchen roll, oil, vinegar, salt and pepper, food storage boxes or bags, an extra cool box (if you have lots of food and drink), an Ordnance Survey Map, sun cream, insect repellent, cash (if you plan to buy firewood), a hatchet.

2 Campsite basics We do not use mains electricity at the site. Solar lamps provide lighting for the campsite facilities area. Please bring additional torches. We ask you use water sensibly and not waste it. We have outdoor bucket showers. Please ask the warden if you are unsure how to operate our showers and please supervise children around the shower system. Each bell tent pitch has an open fire pit for cooking and relaxing around as well as an outdoor wood- fired eco camp stove. Please use the firewood sensibly and ensure you observe sensible fire safety precautions. Children must be supervised at all times near the fire. We supply an allocation of firewood and kindling to our bell tents. The site has flushing toilets. All vehicles are parked away from the site, with wheelbarrows provided to carry provisions and bedding the short walk into the campsite. Eco Camp UK campsite philosophy Eco Camp UK is based on a philosophy of living lightly on the land in harmony with nature. We ask our campers to respect the woodland, observe the countryside code and show consideration and respect for our neighbours and fellow campers. Wild Boar Wood is a five- acre woodland enclosed by fencing. It is surround by Wild Boar Field an area of 40 acres. You are free to explore this area between 9am and 9pm, but we ask you to keep to paths, not to damage the wood. Woodland etiquette and Countryside Code When you are at Wild Boar Wood you are in a natural environment and as such you agree to respect all local flora and fauna. Any damage, wilful or negligent, will be taken seriously and may result in your party being requested to leave. In such cases we will treat your booking as having been cancelled by you and you will not be entitled to any refund. You must not collect firewood from the woodland area. Fallen deadwood provides a natural habitat for many creatures. Please purchase firewood if you run out. We ask our campers to respect Wild Boar Wood and the surrounding countryside by adhering to the Countryside Code, specifically: Consider the local community and other people enjoying the outdoors Stick to paths Leave gates and property as you find them Leave no trace of your visit Plan ahead and be prepared Follow advice and local signs Eco Camp UK along with the Hardy family, who own the woodland and many of the nearby woodland areas, are committed to implementing a strategy of woodland regeneration and care of Wild Boar Wood. After 40- odd years of neglect the ownership of the wood was returned to the Hardy family who engaged the well- known Forester, James Noble, to implement a five- year woodland management program. Students of Plumpton College carried out the initial work, in the area where the main campsite sits.

3 In March 2012, a hedgerow was re- planted to run between Wild Boar Wood and the woodland area at the top of the field. This replaces a hedgerow remained over 40 years ago and enables a habitat link between the two areas. Thirty new tree plantings were made in the campsite area in March 2012 as well, with protective barriers. We ask that these sensitive young trees are now damaged or their growth hindered in any way. Additional hedgerow and plantings are planned for the woodland. Campsite rules and regulations Eco Camp Ltd accepts no liability for loss or damage to possessions and/or personal injury. In making this booking you are accepting full responsibility for your children and you are agreeing to abide by our Terms and Conditions, which can also be viewed in full on our website. All vehicles are parked at their owner's risk. Eco Camp Ltd accepts no liability for loss or damage to vehicles. Low noise policy: We operate a quiet, relaxed and laid- back campsite. All electronic music and percussion instruments of any kind are prohibited. Singing and quiet acoustic instruments (guitars etc) are fine, but only until 10pm when we ask all campers to stick to our low noise policy so as not to interrupt the sleep of younger campers and our neighbours. The wooded area away from the campsite is off- limits and closed from 9pm- 9am to minimise any noise pollution to our neighbours. Loud noise doesn t fit into the vibe of communal camping and we reserve the right to remove any campers who act inappropriately or do not follow our noise guidelines. Dogs and pets: Sorry we do not allow dogs or pets on the campsite. Cleaning policy: We ask that you leave your bell tent and pitch in a clean and tidy state upon your departure. It is a condition of your stay in a bell tent that you clean all cooking equipment and dishes used during your stay. Thank you for your co- operation! Rubbish and recycling policy: As we are an eco camp we encourage everyone who visits us to help us with recycling. We provide a rubbish bin at every pitch for general waste and have two green recycling bins at The Shed. These are clearly marked with one for glass and another for mixed dry recycling (paper, cardboard, cans and plastics - but not plastic bags). We have large communal bins at our campsite drop- off point in the car park. We appreciate it if guests take their rubbish bags to the communal bins at the end of their stay. If you choose to separate your rubbish and recycling at your own pitch then please take care to place it into the correct bin in the car park when you leave. Safety issues and fire precautions Eco Camp UK s campsite landscape includes some steep slopes, trees, brambles and other natural hazards. Depending on the weather, conditions can be cold, wet, slippery or hot, dry and brittle! We trust that you appreciate we can take no responsibility for the weather conditions at the time of your visit. We recommend that you come prepared with suitable clothing and footwear, so that you can enjoy the charm of the natural environment in all its diversity. Adults are responsible for ensuring their own safety and the safety of any children in their care. You must also expect that at certain times of the year creatures such as wasps, mice, spiders or ants may enter the bell tents and be present in the campsite.

4 By booking with Eco Camp UK you are acknowledging that you are aware of the risks, hazards and dangers of entering the woodland and campsite. Eco Camp UK reserves the right to close the campsite in extreme or dangerous weather conditions. The decision to do this is entirely at our discretion. Our campsites adjoin agricultural land used for farming. There is also forestry work on land adjoining the campsites. These areas should not be entered whilst work is being carried out in them. The campsite has fire extinguishers and fire beaters located at fire- points. There are water stands with taps within the campsite to extinguish fires. Each bell tent has a 25- litre water container in case of fire. In case of emergency In case of emergencies, the nearest hospital with an Accident & Emergency unit is the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath located at Lewes Road, Haywards Heath, RH16 4EX. Telephone: +44 (0) From Scaynes Hill turn right on to the A272 towards Haywards Heath. When you reach the town turn left at the first roundabout signposted to the Princess Royal Hospital. The wardens Our wardens live on site and are there to answer questions, assist you with problems and help you make your stay enjoyable. They also sell firewood ( 6 per net). The wardens' working hours are 9am to 8pm. However, they are available at all times to help you in an emergency or if you have a noise complaint. Please assist us by adhering to the Warden s instructions. They are charged specifically with the care of the woods and moderating any behaviour that breaches our terms and conditions. Wild Boar Wood is the wardens' home, please respect their privacy. The wardens' number is Communication There is mobile phone reception for most networks at the campsite. However, as we are totally off grid (no electricity) we have no power points to recharge. There is a phone box in Horsted Keynes opposite the green. In an emergency ask the wardens to help, they have a mobile phone. Getting around On foot: Information on local walks is provided on site. The village of Horsted Keynes is about one- and- a- half miles from the campsite. There are two pubs, a church and a general store in the village. The most direct route is along a country lane with no pavements. A route avoiding walking on the road as far as possible takes around one hour on some uneven ground. By bus: The nearest bus stop is in the centre of Horsted Keynes. Bus route 270 runs hourly to and from East Grinstead and Haywards Heath six days a week. The Sunday service has just five buses per day. Timetables can be found at

5 By train and taxi: The nearest mainline station is Haywards Heath, approximately five miles away. A taxi will take around minutes. Please give your driver the instructions above for arriving by car. By car: Our instructions for arriving at the campsite by car are provided in a separate document. Things to do during your stay Pubs: There are a number of pubs in the surrounding countryside, villages and towns. The closest to the campsite are in Horsted Keynes: the traditional The Green Man pub and The Crown Inn, a gastro- pub. The Coach and Horses in Danehill is about three miles away from the site. Walks: Information on local walks is supplied at the campsite. The Bluebell Railway: Take a ride on the steam trains of the historic Bluebell Railway, one of the largest tourist attractions in Sussex, which runs right past the campsite. Sheffield Park and Horsted Keynes stations are within a few miles of the campsite. Details can be found at railway.co.uk Sheffield Park (National Trust Park & Gardens): Enjoy a stroll around the magnificent and informal landscape garden of Sheffield Park laid out in the 18th century by 'Capability' Brown and further developed in the early years of the 20th century by its owner, Arthur G. Soames. Find out more at park- and- garden/visitor- information/ Horse Riding: Tremains Riding Stables, a horse riding school/equestrian centre is about half- a- mile from the campsite, offering horse- riding lessons. To find out more call The Ashdown Forest: A combination of woodland and heathland, the Ashdown Forest is in the heart of the High Weald Designated Area of Outstanding Beauty and is a great place to go walking to enjoy beautiful views across the countryside. It is also the place that inspired AA Milne to write the Winnie the Pooh stories. Sites associated with the stories, including the famous Pooh Sticks Bridge, are less than ten miles from the campsite. Visit for more information. Shops: Horsted Keynes General Store has a good selection of basic groceries and is open from 7am- 6pm Monday to Saturday and until midday on Sundays. The Old Dairy Farm Shop ( is approximately two miles from the campsite selling locally produced vegetables, meat and more. The campsite's neighbour is the High Weald Dairy where a range of award- winning local cheese is produced. You can buy cheeses from their office on weekdays only. Call ahead or speak to the warden if you would like to buy cheese during your stay. There is a Spar shop at the BP garage in Scaynes Hill, about two miles from the campsite. It is open daily from 6am until 11pm. The closest large supermarket is Sainsbury's, five miles away, in Haywards Heath, open 7am- 10pm Monday to Saturday and 10am- 4pm on Sundays.
