We will attempt to place your troop in as many of your top choices as possible; preference will be given to the troops who registered earliest. (NOTE: Troops can do either canoeing or kayaking but not both, so we will try to choose the one you rate highest.) Session Choices (Please rate the options, with 1 being your first choice): Archery ~ 3 rd - 12 th grade Canoeing~ 4 th - 12 th grade Kayaking ~ 3 th - 12 th grade Games Nature Hike & Scavenger Hunt Geocaching Science Experiments Creating Musical Instruments Nature Artwork T-Shirt Tote Bags T-Shirt Weaving Wildlife Service Project Lodging Choices: Cabin sleeps up to 10 bunk beds, no electricity Tenting Site bring your own tents We try to fill the cabins to capacity, so depending on the size of your troop, you may be staying with another troop. Please list any preferred sister troop #s or other comments below: 3

4 SESSION DESCRIPTIONS Archery Learn to shoot with the Camp Fire USA staff. Your girls need to be in 3 rd grade or older. Canoeing or Kayaking Try canoeing or kayaking on beautiful Lake Minnewashta. Led by the Camp Fire USA staff. Your girls need to be in at least 3 th grade for kayaking or 4 th grade for canoeing. Games Enjoy some outdoor games at Tanadoona s open field. We ll have supplies for Chicken Fling, Tininkling, and Bean Bag Toss plus your troop can borrow equipment from the Tanadoona sports cabinet. Chicken Fling is a blast; wrap your rubber chicken around the sling, aim, and try to land in the basket! Nature Hike & Scavenger Hunt We ll set up a nature hike and scavenger hunt in the tenting area, past the open fields. (Brownies can earn their Hiker badge.) Geocaching Learn how to use a GPS and go on a search to locate various treasures around camp (can use to satisfy some requirements of the Junior Geocaching badge). Science Experiments Science can be awesome! We ll lead the girls through several experiments using common kitchen ingredients. Creating Musical Instruments Make a variety of percussion instruments, including castanets, Shekere, and/or drums and decorate them using paint, beads, etc. Nature Artwork A variety of projects will be available to create nature-themed artwork, including drawing, painting, seed art, and other ideas using natural materials. (Can use this class to satisfy some Brownie Painting or Junior Drawing badge requirements) T-Shirt Tote Bags Create a no-sew t-shirt tote bag using our extra Centennial Day of Service shirts and optional spray paint. We ll connect the bottom using fringe and beads. T-Shirt Weaving Make your own rug or bowl by weaving t-shirt strips onto a hula hoop! This session is recommended for 2 nd grade and up, although Daisies can do this craft with leader help. Wildlife Service Project - We are partnering this year with wildlife rehabilitation groups to make Squirrel Nest Boxes (woodworking project for Brownies and up) and Bird Cage Liners (all). Working on other badges? Camp is a great time to complete badge requirements, especially Camping and Meal badges! Look over the requirements and let us know a couple weeks before camp if you re hoping a session can satisfy a requirement as we may be able to tweak it to work. 4

5 SPECIAL OVERNIGHT EVENTS Medallion Hunt Clues will be given throughout the day on Saturday as to where the Medallions are hidden. The first troop to find the Medallion will earn a special prize. Outdoor Cooking Contest Bring your creative cooking ideas and compete in one, two, or all three of our categories appetizer, entree, and/or dessert on Saturday evening. You can use whatever types of outdoor cooking you prefer, as long as it involves an outdoor fire or coals (e.g., over the fire using a foil wrap or stick, pie irons, Dutch Oven, or a reflector Box Oven). Volunteers will come to your camp area to sample your efforts. Number of prizes awarded will depend on the number of troops participating. Bonfire/Singalong Gather with other troops in front of the fire to sing your favorite Girl Scout songs. Twilight Party Join the celebration with other troops at the Dining Hall. Enjoy a snack, paint your nails, listen to music, and dance if the spirit moves you! This year we will bring a Karaoke machine. Wear your pajamas! Hula Hoop Contest Are you talented with a hula hoop? Join our contest on Sunday morning to show off your skills. The girl who can spin the longest even through special challenges--wins the prize. Leadership Opportunities for Overnight Troops: Scouts Own - Does your troop have a special poem or message they d like to share with other overnight troops? If so, sign up to lead us in a short Scouts Own during closing ceremony on Sunday. Flag Ceremony Would your troop like to lead an opening flag ceremony or a closing flag ceremony? This is an opportunity to practice an outdoor flag ceremony and learn how to fold the flag. Judging Cooking Contest We need a troop to sample and judge the entries. 5

6 IMPORTANT CAMP INFORMATION Medical forms and permission slips: You must have a Health History Form for each girl & adult and a Parent Guardian Permission form for each girl. You can download current forms here: Up-to-date health information and emergency number are vital. You will need them to check in as you enter camp. They will be returned to you and should remain with you at camp. All girls and adults must be registered girl scouts to attend. Directions to Tanadoona: Camp Tanadoona, 3300 Tanadoona Dr, Excelsior, MN / W north / 494 west / Hwy 5 west / Hwy 41 north / Tanadoona Dr (left) / Camp ¼ mile on right. It s a minute drive from the Burnsville/Savage area. Check in: Sat 8:55-9:15 am - you will receive your schedule for the day, cabin, and caper assignments. SWAPS: Please bring about 10 S.W.A.P.S. (aka Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere or Share With a Pal) per girl if your troop would like to exchange with other troops. Bad weather: The program goes rain or shine. We will provide alternative activities if outdoor sessions cannot be held due to rain. In case of severe weather, a bell will be rung and you should proceed to the dining hall basement. First Aid: Each Troop must bring its own first aid kit. There is an Emergency phone in the kitchen of the dining hall. Please remind your girls that there is no running at camp. Food: What you bring is what you eat. For Sat, bring a bag lunch. For Sat dinner we will be sharing fire scars and picnic tables. Wood is provided; there are no grates. Be prepared in case of rain; either a cold meal option or a camp stove & shelter work great for a back-up plan. For Sunday, plan a cold breakfast or cook over the fire or on your camp stove. A few healthy snacks are a good idea; hungry girls are not fun to be with! Please remember that food left out attracts critters; please bring it back to your cars. No food should be brought into the sleeping areas. Fires: Fires must be attended at all times; to have a fire you must be trained. You should bring a bucket for water to keep near the fire (it is also good for hand washing & dishes). Pictures: We ll take a picture of your troop outside the Dining Hall by the Tanadoona totem pole. Tammy s husband, Eric, will be our photographer and will send everyone an link to the camp pictures. Overnight: Troops will find out their sleeping arrangements and caper assignment at check-in so you can move in as time permits during the day. Please watch your time so that you are not late for ceremonies or sessions. Cars are not allowed in the camp so everything you bring must be carried or you can bring a wagon or sled. Check out: Day Campers Sat 5:00pm; Overnight campers Sun 11am-Noon Please complete your camp evaluation to receive your patches. Overnight troops also need to show that your sleeping area is clean and caper is complete; we will then return your caper deposit check. 6

Additional Gear for Overnight: you should only have 1 bag + sleeping bag You will need to carry what you bring; wagons or sleds are very helpful.
