One for BRITA filtered water and the other for your regular unfiltered hot/cold water. The A 1000 filter 0.5 micron carbon block filter cartridge significantly reduces: Chlorine, unpleasant tastes and odours Small particles (such as rust, dust and sand) Organic impurities Lifetime of the A 1000 filter cartridge A 1000 filter cartridge life depends on local water quality. For optimum performance and hygiene, it is recommended that the filter cartridge be replaced at least every litres or six-monthly. Exchange will be prompted by your BRITA Cartridge Status Indicator, shown by the colour of the LED. For more information regarding the BRITA Cartridge Exchange Indicator, see chapter 3. Ensuring you get the best from your system 1 Warranty The BRITA Water Filter Kits (Models: WD 3020, WD 3030 and WD 3040) are warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship at the time of delivery. Any warranty claims will be voided if defective installation is deemed to have contributed to malfunction. Installation needs to take place in accordance with the instructions and all relevant plumbing codes and standards. The pressure limiting valve must be installed as directed to comply with plumbing regulations standards (AS/ NZS 3500) and protect your tap from possible pressure surges. The maximum operating conditions are provided in chapters 8 and 8.1. Ensure that pressure and temperature do not exceed these limits. Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian and New Zealand Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and for compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure. Your BRITA Water Filter Kit includes the following (see fig. 1): 1. Filter head with following settings ("A", "B", "C" and "0") including a convenient locking handle 2. Flexible wall mount bracket for filter head 3. A 1000 water filter cartridge 4. BRITA Dispenser (design may differ from image shown) 5. BRITA Cartridge Status Indicator 6. Battery (CR2032) 7. 3 Hoses: 1 Hose, length = 800 mm, 3/8" nut on one side and M8 connector on the other side, 2 Hoses with the blue stripe for cold water and the red stripe for hot water, length = 450 mm, 1/2" nut on one side and M8 connectors on the other side (fig. 1) 4 ENGLISH

Adapter 1/4" - 1/2" Recommended tools for installation: one Allen hexagonal key (4 mm), a pipe wrench, adjustable spanner for different sizes. Recommended for installation of the wall mount bracket: two screws (e.g. 5 mm in size) and two wall plugs (if necessary). Please use appropriate screws and wall plugs for the type of wall in the under-sink compartment. 3.1 Step 1: Selecting appropriate setting on the filter head The filter head is set to B by default. For use with the supplied A 1000 filter cartridge you need to change the setting in the window to 0. Use an Allen key (hexagonal socket wrench) and turn the hexagonal nut in the direction of the arrow in the window until the 0 appears. Refer fig. 2) 0 (fig. 2) C A B 3 BRITA Dispenser easy installation Installation of the filter system must comply with the relevant state or local plumbing regulations and standards (AS/NZS 3500). The pressure limiting valve must be installed as directed to comply and protect your tap from possible pressure surges. Depending on the necessary method of connection to the cold water supply, additional valves/adaptors/components may be required, and the services of a licensed plumber may be necessary. If you do not have an available connection to the cold water supply and it is necessary to cut into the cold water supply line, a licensed plumber is required. Before starting, please check that you have all the components as listed above (see fig. 1) as well as the recommended tools. There are 7 steps to the installation. Prior to installation, read the Technical Data (chapter 8) and the Operation and Safety Information. (After storage and transport below 0 C, the product must be stored in the open original packaging for at least 24 hours at the stated ambient temperatures (chapter 8) for operation.) The system cannot be installed with a low pressure boiler. 3.2 Step 2: Starting the BRITA Cartridge Status Indicator The BRITA Cartridge Status Indicator reminds you through three different coloured flashing lights when to exchange the filter cartridge. A Commissioning: Remove the battery strip (fig. 3). All LEDs should flash shortly. Close the compartment. Keep the Reset button pushed for three seconds until a small green light flashes three times at the top (fig. 4). B Initial programming of the BRITA Cartridge Status Indicator: Please programm the BRITA Cartridge Status Indicator as follows (see fig. 4): a Cartridge Setting Push the button on the left side (CARTRIDGE) to set the cartridge you are using. If you push the button one time, two yellow LEDs will flash (default cartridge setting: P 1000). To set the supplied filter cartridge A 1000, push the button, until one yellow LED flashes. Note: In Australia and New Zealand BRITA Dispenser is not compatible with filter cartridges P 1000 and P ENGLISH 5

6 b Hardness Setting (Button HARDNESS on the right side) In Australia and New Zealand setting the hardness level is not necessary and will have no impact on the cartridge lifetime. c To change a setting, simply push the button until the right number of LED lights are flashing. d Insert the BRITA Cartridge Status Indicator into the BRITA water dispenser s lever (see fig. 3). C How the BRITA Cartridge Status Indicator works To ensure optimal performance, you should change the filter cartridge on a regular basis. The Cartridge Status Indicator in the BRITA lever tells you when to change the filter cartridge. D Signals The three lights in the BRITA lever are only activated in the filtering position. They indicate: - Green light: The BRITA filter is working. - Yellow light: 90 % of the filter capacity has been used. Remember to buy a new replacement filter cartridge. - Red light: The filter cartridge needs to be changed E Reprogramming the BRITA Cartridge Status Indicator If the maximum volume is reached or the cartridge has been used for 6 months, the BRITA Cartridge Status Indicator will start flashing red (only if BRITA lever is in the filtering position). In this case the filter cartridge should be replaced (chapter 4). Once the cartridge has been replaced the BRITA Cartridge Status Indicator has to be reset. For this purpuse push the Reset Button (fig. 4) of the Cartridge Status Indicator for three seconds until it starts flashing green (for this step, you do not need to remove the BRITA Cartridge Status Indicator from the BRITA lever). If replacing the battery, commissioning should be followed in accordance with section 3.2. Technical data: Battery: 1x CR2032 (removable) lifetime of battery: app. 2 years (fig. 4) (fig. 3) 1. 7 3.3 Step 3: Installing the BRITA Dispenser To install the BRITA Dispenser, firstly ensure you have all the components required. Please, make sure that there is enough room and access under the sink to allow for the installation of the filter head and cartridge, and to connect the two supplied hoses. The supplied hose for connection to the cold water supply requires the availability of an already installed ½" isolation or angle valve. Before installation, please ensure you have such a free ½" isolation or angle valve and that it is working properly (closeable to 100 %). If not, please contact a licensed plumber. In accordance with regulations, the isolating valve which is included in your kit must be installed at the point of connection to the water supply before the filter system inlet hose. Behind the isolating valve a pressure limited valve must always be installed to ensure the right function of the cartridge. WD (fig. 5) 1. BRITA Dispenser with 3 hoses 2. Brass nut A First of all, remove your existing kitchen tap. a) Turn off the cold and hot water supplies b) Please make sure you release any pressure by opening all levers. No water should run through the existing kitchen tap. c) Unscrew the existing hoses from the cold and hot water supply. We recommend placing a suitable container under the water supply as there will be water left in the hoses which will run down when you unscrew them. d) Unscrew your kitchen tap there is no standard mounting but in general a pipe wrench will help you to unmount it. e) Pull out both your kitchen tap and the hoses. B You re now ready to install the BRITA Dispenser (see fig. 5 and fig. 6). First of all, screw the shank (4) into the BRITA Dispenser (1). Screw the hoses into the dispenser (see fig. 7). Screw the M8 connector of the hose with the blue stripe into the hole C. ENGLISH 7

8 Screw the M8 connector of the hose with the red stripe into the hole H. Screw the M8 connector of the 800 mm hose into the hole B. WD 3020/ WD 3030/ WD 3040 (fig. 7) B C H Ensure the connections are screwed tight, but avoid overtightening. Then put the base or O-Ring (3) over the hole and fix the BRITA Dispenser (1) in place using the supplied joint (5), the flat gasket (6), flange (7) and the brass nut (8). If you do have an additional free 1/2" cold water supply for the BRITA Dispenser in your kitchen, you do not need to install the supplied T-piece. B Connect the hose with the blue stripe to one side of the T-piece (or free 1/2 cold water supply). Please make sure that preassembled gasket is placed right. C Connect the 800 mm hose to the OUT (connection point on filter head) which labelled with an OUT arrow. Please make sure that pre-assembled gasket is placed right. D Connect the hose with the red stripe with your hot water supply. Please make sure that pre-assembled gasket is placed right. E Make sure all connections are tightened properly. Avoid over tightening. 3.4 Step 4: Attaching the hoses and additional parts We recommend that you first arrange all parts you need in front of you. Recommended tools for installation: sealing tape, one Allen key and an adjustable spanner wrench. Recommended for installation of the wall mount bracket: two screws (e.g. 5 mm in size suited to the mounting surface) and two wall plugs (if necessary). Please follow the diagram below (see fig. 8) and perform the steps in the right order. A For this step please use the parts showed in fig.1. a) Wrap the sealing tape around the 1/4 thread of adapter (14) and screw it into the pressure limiting valve (10). Screw the pressure limiting valve on the 1/2 angle valve. b) Insert a 1/2 flat gasket into the hex nut of the T-piece (11) and screw it on the assembled pressure limiting valve. c) Place a 1/2 flat gasket in the brass nut 1/2 of the hose (8) and connect this hose with the T-piece (11). d) Insert a 3/8 flat gasket into the other side of the hose and screw this hose to the side of the filter head inlet, which is labeled IN. If you do not have an isolating valve, please use the isolating valve (13) included in the kit. (fig. 8) Hot water supply Cold water supply (Optional, if shutoff is required) The max. tightening torque for the G 3/8" connections may not exceed 14 Nm Only hose connections with washers may be used hoses with conical screw connections damage the connections of the filter head and invalidate any warranty claims. 8 ENGLISH

9 3.5 Step 5: Inserting the filter cartridge (see fig. 9) A Remove the protective strap (1). B Insert the filter cartridge (4) vertically into the filter head (5). C Turn the locking handle (3) until it clicks Step 6 (optional): Space-saving wall mount to install the cartridge under the sink (see fig. 10) During assembly, note the installation dimensions, bending radii of the hoses and dimensions of the accessories. The system can be operated with the filter cartridge in either vertical or horizontal positions. Using the mounting bracket, it should be installed only vertically, with the UP arrow on the bracket correctly positioned A. B. A Attach the space-saving wall mount bracket (1) in place using two matching screws and use two wall plugs (not supplied), depending on the type of wall. Position it in an accessible place to allow for 90 pivoting of the head for easy exchange of the filter. B Engage the filter head (2) in the wall mount (1) using the notches (3) on the sides of the filter head to connect to the arms of the bracket (fig. 9) The filter cartridge can only be inserted when the locking handle (3) is open. Make sure that the filter cartridge is positioned correctly and all O-Rings are correctly positioned (fig. 10) ENGLISH 9

10 3.7 Step 7: Commissioning Before use, make sure that you have followed all the steps correctly and all the parts are fitted. Place a suitable container under the cartridge to catch any leakages. A Turn on the cold and hot water supplies and check the system carefully for any leaks. B Open the BRITA Dispenser and allow water to run until the filtered water runs clear and without any bubbles (at least 1 litre). 4 Replacing the filter cartridge If the maximum volume is reached or the cartridge has been used for 6 months from commissioning, the BRITA Cartidge Status Indicator will flashing red to remind you that the cartridge needs to be replaced. NOTE Read the Operating and Safety Information (chapter 9) prior to exchange of filter. The filter cartridge can be pivoted by 90 in the wall mount bracket for easy removal. When the locking handle is open, the water supply to the cartridge is interrupted, without the need to turn off the isolating valve. Replacing the A 1000 filter cartridge (see fig. 9): A Open the locking handle (3). B To release the pressure in the system, first place a suitable container under the flush hose to catch any water, then open the flush valve (2). Close the flush valve (2) again. C Remove the exhausted filter cartridge (4) from the filter head (5). D Insert the new filter cartridge (see Step 5, chapter 3.5) E Close the locking handle (3) F Reset the BRITA Cartridge Status Indicator (chapter 5) G Open the BRITA branded lever on your BRITA Dispenser and rinse through until the filtered water runs clear and without any bubbles (at least 1 litre). 5 Activating the BRITA Cartridge Status Indicator A Push the reset button (see fig. 4) of the BRITA Cartridge Status Indicator for three seconds until the LED-light flashing green. B The timer starts automatically. 6 Maintenance Regularly check the filter system for leaks. Regularly check the hoses for kinks. Kinked hoses must be replaced. The BRITA Cartridge Status Indicator has an expected useful life of approx. 5 years. Please contact your BRITA Customer Service team if your Cartridge Status Indicator is at the end of the useful life. Prior to exchanging the filter system, read the Technical Data (chapter 8) and the Operating and Safety Information (chapter 9). Regularly clean the outside of the filter system with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use any abrasive chemicals, cleaning solutions or astringent cleaning agents. 7 Troubleshooting A No water flow Cause: Water intake closed. Troubleshooting: Open the water intake at the upstream shut-off valve or by closing the locking handle (3) on the filter head (5). B No or low water flow in spite of open water intake Cause: Mains pressure too low. Troubleshooting: Check mains pressure. If the fault continues, check the filter system and filter cartridge and replace if necessary. Cause: Filter head not mounted in direction of water flow. Troubleshooting: Dismantle filter head and install in direction of water flow (chapter 3.4). 10 ENGLISH

11 C Leak Cause: Screwed connections not fitted correctly. Troubleshooting: Check mains pressure. Check all screwed connections in accordance with chapter 3.4. D No LED indication by usage Cause: Battery is not inserted in a correct way or is used up. Troubleshooting: Check if battery is inserted properly. If necessary, replace the battery. For models WD 3030 and WD 3040 only These models have an aerator with two integrated outlets. Replacement Cartridges Refill A 1000 This system requires regular replacement of the filter cartridge to maintain proper operation. Varying scale, chlorine, sediment, or organic substance levels may affect replacement frequency. Be sure to change the filter cartridge at least as indicated in the capacity table (refer to your Instruction Guide) or six monthly which ever occurs first, or whenever you detect a change in taste, odour, or a decrease in flow. Please ensure that a backflow prevention device, meeting the requirements of AS/NZS , is installed on the water supply inlet to the filter unit. Caution: Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system. System is to be supplied only with cold water. The performance of this product has been verified and substantiated as the test data summarised below indicates. These substances may not be in your water. 15 9 Operation and Safety Protect the A 1000 water filter cartridge from direct sunlight and mechanical damage. Do not assemble near sources of heat and open flames. A stop valve must be installed before the filter system intake hose. A pressure reducer must be installed in front of the tap and filter system. The BRITA Dispenser is only suitable for domestic use. Only water of drinking water quality may be used as intake water for the BRITA water filter system. The BRITA Dispenser is only suitable for cold water use within the supply water temperature stated in chapter 8. No microbiologically impaired water or water of unknown quality may be used without appropriate disinfection. The system cannot be installed with a low pressure boiler. In the event of official water alert: filter first, and then boil If there are official instructions to boil tap water, the filter system must be decommissioned. When the requirement to boil water comes to an end, the filter cartridge must be replaced and the connections cleaned. Ultimate hygiene For hygiene reasons, the filter material of the cartridge is subjected to a special bacteriostatic treatment with silver. A minute quantity of silver, harmless to health, may be released into the water, within the guidelines of the World Health Organisation (WHO) for drinking water. It is generally recommended to boil tap water for certain groups of people (e.g. people with weak immune systems, babies). For such groups, this would also apply to filtered water. Similar to the conventional taps, before using you should let water rinse through for a short period so you can enjoy your BRITA filtered water. Optimum use BRITA recommends that the filter system not be decommissioned for a long period. If the BRITA Dispenser with A 1000 filter is not used for several days (2 3 days), we recommend that the filter system be flushed by running the volume X indicated in the table below. After stagnation periods of over 4 weeks, the filter should be flushed by running the volume Y or otherwise consider replacing the cartridge if it is near the end of its recommended life. Please also note the maximum usage period of the filter cartridge is 6 months. Use it within 1 2 days. The filter system must not be opened or dismantled during operation. The filter cartridge must not be opened. The filter system filter head is designed for a service life of 5 years counted from the date of installation. Natural traces As the filter cartridge contains carbon, derived from natural charcoal, as with such natural matter, there may be variations and this can lead to a slight abrasion of small carbon particles into your filtered water, noticeable as black dust. These particles have no negative health effects. If ingested, they will not harm the human body. If you should see any carbon particles in the filtered water, BRITA recommends flushing out the A 1000 filter cartridge by running the filter tap until the particle deposits are washed out. 16 IV. BRITA, quality and satisfaction guaranteed Correctly dispose of the BRITA Cartridge Status Indicator The BRITA Cartridge Status Indicator has an expected useful life of approx. 5 years. At the end of the useful life of the Cartridge Status Indicator, remember that it must be disposed of according to the applicable regulations and statutory requirements. Please contact your BRITA Customer Service team if your Cartridge Status Indicator is at the end of the useful life. Exclusion of liability BRITA shall not be held liable for any damage, including subsequent damage, arising from the incorrect use of the product. 100 % satisfaction: the BRITA Promise We are confident that this BRITA product will meet your demands in terms of quality and performance.
