2 Ramara Summer Day Camp 2018 General Information WE ARE NUT FREE! Like all schools in the area, Ramara Summer Day Camp strives to be a nut free program. Participants are asked not to bring food products that may contain nuts or traces of nuts to our facilities. Should items be found that contain nuts, the products will be removed from the camp area and returned to the parent at the end of the day. If your child is unsure whether their food contains nuts, they are encouraged to check with one of our Camp Staff. Let s help keep EVERYONE safe! QUALITY SUPERVISION & CARE Our dynamic group of Camp Staff receive a variety of training including Health & Safety, Accessibility, CPR and First Aid, Fire Extinguisher Training, Inclusion as well as are required to produce a negative Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening. We are extremely proud of our camp staff in their efforts to provide an amazing camp experience for all participants and their families. Through extensive training and experience, Camp Staff are familiar with the expectations of the Township of Ramara Recreation Department and are dedicated to providing a safe, fun and inclusive environment for all campers. PAYMENTS & REFUNDS Both the Township office in Brechin and the Ramara Centre office accept payment by Cash, Debit or Cheque (21 days in advance of program). ONLY the Ramara Centre office and online system accept payments by credit card. Since staffing is determined by the number of registered campers, we adhere to a strict refund policy. Refunds will only be provided if, at least, 7 days notice has been given prior to the start date of the day camp program. Pro-rated refunds will be considered if a medical certificate has been received before the halfway point of the program. Admin fees apply to all program changes. FULL day camp refund policy will available on our camp welcome desk. PIZZA FRIDAYS Run out of ideas for your child s lunch by Friday? No problem! Purchase a slice or two to be delivered on Friday at noon. Slices are $2 each and you pay your counsellor no later than 9 am on Friday morning. Options are either Cheese or Pepperoni. Sorry PIZZA FRIDAYS are only available to full day camps held at the Ramara Centre site. YUM! HOURS OF OPERATION Normal hours for a day at camp are 9:00 am till 4:00 pm daily. Pay attention to the brochure for some of our half day camps or Specialty camps that may have altered or different hours. For regular day camps that run from 9-4 Extended care is available for an extra fee and MUST be booked in advance to allow for staffing ratios. Extended care hours start at 7:30 am for early care and run till 5:30 pm for late care. The fee for this is $3.00 per day or purchase a week at a time for $ Extended care availability is on a first come first served basis so act fast if you need it! HOW TO REGISTER Registration begins as soon as you see this publication! There are several ways to register: 1. In person at the Ramara Centre or Township office 2. Give us a call! The Ramara Centre office can accept registrations and payment by credit card over the phone Online via our registration site. Wait lists will be created to accommodate campers in the order in which they were received.

3 Ramara Summer Day Camp 2018 General Information WHAT TO BRING TO CAMP? REMEMBER Children should wear comfortable clothes to camp that will withstand the activities they are participating in. In order to prevent loss, labels are encouraged as well as a backpack or tote bag to keep everything together. Electronic devices are not permitted. Please refrain from sending any valuable items to camp. The Township of Ramara and their staff are not responsible for lost or stolen items. Other items to include are a nut free lunch and drinks, additional snacks for morning and afternoon, extra change of clothes, proper shoes (no flip flops), sunscreen and a hat, bathing suit and towel for water activities, and a refillable water bottle. Be prepared! PERSONAL INFORMATION The information we collect from you about your child is to help create a record of registration for the operation of our recreation programs. Collection is in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and is not a public document or available for public inspection. PHOTOGRAPHY Unless a parent or guardian indicates in writing, the assumption will be made that permission is given to take pictures during any program that may be used to promote recreation programs. MEDICAL INFORMATION & MEDICATIONS On your child s first day at camp, you will be asked to update your child s medical information to ensure we have the most up to date information in our files. INCLUSION SUPPORT Does your child require additional support? We are pleased to offer INCLUSIVE SUMMER CAMP EXPERIENCES for children of ALL abilities in Ramara through the use of an Inclusion Facilitator. There are a limited amount of inclusion spaces available, although personal mediators are welcome at your own expense. Call Caroline Schiavone at recreation@ramara.ca or to make an appointment and fill out a CHILD INFO PACKAGE which will help with successful placement of your child at camp. Returning campers are not guaranteed a spot. We work on a first-come, first-served basis. Contact us for more details. FINANCIAL SUPPORT Registering your child for quality programs and camps can sometimes add up. Consider applying for subsidies through the following two programs. HealthStar designed to help with active recreation programs to get kids moving and participating in sport JumpStart will fund day camp activities and allow a child time at camp where it might not have been financially feasible. We will be playing games related to all of our favourite superheroes and villains, as well as some older or more unique characters.

Similar to our popular Leaders in Training Camp, this camp is for the group that knows they want to be involved and help out at Camp Ramara but aren t quite 13 years old yet. In this camp we will teach what it takes to be a successful leader at Camp Ramara and spend some time in camp learning hands on skills. Topics will include things like: how to get a group s attention, ice breakers, time filling games, leadership skills, teambuilding, reading and following a schedule and so much more! While it will be a jam-packed week of learning and developing leadership skills, this week is sure to be a ton of fun for all of us! Tuesday-Friday 9:00 am 4:00 pm Ages 10 yrs + Fee $95 / 4 day week No Camp MONDAY Camp Ramara 2018 Week # 2 July 9th-13th CAMP SCENE INVESTIGATION (CSI) - For our young scientists and curious campers! A crime has occurred at Camp Ramara and you must work together to solve it and find the culprit. Learn cool techniques from evidence collection, to blood spatter analysis, test your fingerprints and follow the clues to eliminate suspects and find the true criminal! 5 Camp Ramara 2018 Week # 3 July 16th 20th PASSION FOR FASHION Do you love seeing the latest trends? Making your own style and always looking your best? This week we will be using different materials to make our own fashion statements like bags and shirts to take home and show off! With such a variety of things to make and a personal spin on each, it s sure to be an awesome week! Passion for Fashion Monday Friday 9:00 am 4:00 pm Ages 5-12 years Fee $ 115/ week GUTS For our campers that love learning how things work! This week we have a ton of old electronics and household items to take apart to learn what makes them work from the inside! We will also be looking at electronic and real animals to learn about the body, using things like online dissections. GUTS Monday Friday 9:00 am 4:00 pm Ages 5-12 years Fee $ 115/ week LEADERS IN TRAINING (LIT) The LIT program strives to develop today s young people into the leaders of tomorrow! As this is our pre-requisite for anyone wishing to volunteer with us, we provide targeted training opportunities and the ins and outs of camp Ramara. Following completion of this training camp, the opportunity is provided to volunteer and gain on-thejob skills in 2018 camps. Topics covered this week include: behaviour management, program planning, resume writing, interviewing, inclusion and accessibility, and so much more! LIT Monday Friday 9:00 am 4:00 pm Ages 13 yrs + Fee $85 / week Camp Ramara 2018 Week # 4 July 23rd 27th BIG BANG SCIENCE Do you have a camper that likes to get Ooey, Gooey and Gross? This week will be all about experimentation and theory with a good dose of Slimy and Cool! Join us for a week of scientific adventures! Big Bang Science Monday-Friday 9:00 am 4:00 pm Ages 4-6 years Fee $ 115 week JUNKYARD WARS This week is all about what we can use recycled materials for! To prove our point, we will be using things from our recycling bins to run activities and make awesome art. Making sure our campers know the importance of recycling, or goal for this week is to reuse as much as possible! Junkyard Wars Monday-Friday 9:00 am 4:00 pm Ages 7-10 years Fee $ 115 week OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP CAMP - Campers will be immersed in learning outdoor education skills this week. Things like geocaching, orienteering, reading a map, building and cooking with hand made solar ovens, pitching a tent, gathering materials needed for successful fire building, identifying animals and plants, wilderness first aid, packing a successful hike pack along with leadership and group trust games. Campers should make sure they wear proper outdoor attire including sturdy footwear, sunscreen, hat, insect repellant and rain gear (if needed). Outdoor Leadership Monday-Friday 9:00 am 4:00 pm Ages 9-13 years Fee $ 115 week RAMARA SUMMER VOLLEYBALL SKILLS The volleyball program offered at Twin Lakes S.S. by coaches and former Suns players is available for people wishing to try out the sport or improve their skills. Choose from Beginner (8 yrs + with little to no experience) or Intermediate ( players with OVA or school team experience). We guarantee you will learn a ton of new skills in this intense 4 day camp! It is sure to be a jam-packed, amazing week full of magic! Wizards Tuesday-Friday 9:00 am 4:00 pm Ages 9-13 years Fee $95/4 day week WATER WARS - This is it an all out colour and water war that will determine who is greatest champ of them all. Can the campers defeat the Counsellors and finally take the crown? Every day we ll explore a new challenge involving water. Be prepared to get wet on a daily basis! This is always a very popular week so if you want in, sign up now! Cast members wanted! Do you like to sing, act and dance? This is THE PLACE to hone your Triple Threat skills and amaze yourself and your family and friends. The pinnacle of our summer camp experience, we end our summer with a bang with a TWO WEEK Theatre Arts Camp that ends in a full Musical Theatre Production complete with lights, sounds, props, costumes and set pieces. Campers will receive scripts and music and will be expected to practice at home. Two shows on Thursday August 31st will take place with the final CAST PARTY ending up our 2018 season. Campers will have the opportunity to plan their day and have the Counsellors facilitate the program. This program is only 3 days, but is full of as many activities and games that the campers can come up with! How far will the campers go?!
