1 seward2018 parks & rec summer camps what s new in 2018: exciting weekly themes! STEM activities sponsored by the Seward Community Foundation and local businesses
2 camps pups camp is for kids entering grades 1 & 2. Campers will enjoy daily field trips, exercise, arts & crafts, games and more! Camp meets rain or shine. Each camp is led by caring professionals with fresh and exciting activities. Campers need to bring a sack lunch, afternoon snacks, or spending money for the Snack Shack. Limited space, early registration is encouraged. rookery camp is specifically designed for kids in grades 3 to 5. Theme weeks coincide with the Pups Camp, but the activities throughout the day will present more challenges and adventure for the older children. Campers will be building campfires, cooking out, hiking and adventuring in and around Seward with kids their age. adventure camp is for kids in grades 6 to 8 who are looking for a challenge and are not afraid of getting dirty. Adventure Camp promotes an environment in which campers will be problem-solving, learning life skills as well as experiencing what the great state of Alaska has to offer. Campers will be hiking farther, camping more, becoming more comfortable with the backcountry in which they live. counselor in training (CIT) program is for 8th graders wanting to learn skills involved in providing recreation. The CIT day begins at 10 am and finishes at 5:45 pm. Participants enrolled in this program will be assigned a counselor to work with and will be given limited responsibility in the implementation of our summer camp program. Participants must apply for this program. Those accepted into the CIT program must commit to a 4-week session. CIT program fees are 50% of regular K-6 camp fees. Please fill out and submit CIT application. rates: trip fees & lab fees included Regular Fee: due each Friday, 3 weeks prior to intended camp... $60 camp ratesday Late Fee: due after the 3 week deadline has passed... $70 discounted rate options: 1. 50% Discount for any ONE of the qualifying discounts: Food Stamps / WIC / Denali Kid Care / Free or Reduced School Lunches OR 2. A day at camp is busy, fun & exciting! With the action packed days, kids may come home a little dirty, a bit tired and probably hungry too! With this in mind please send your child to camp every day with good walking shoes, play clothes and a water bottle. Dress for the weather each day, as we are outside rain or shine. Please write your child s name on everything! Swim suits and towels are needed on Tuesdays and Thursdays and for special events. Boys need to have swim trunks (no speedos) and girls wear one piece suits only please. Trip Fees: The Challenger Center, gold panning, Major Marine Tours, Nikiski Pool, Alaska Zoo, Portage Glacier, and Botanical Gardens trips are all camp trips and their fees are included with the week s registration. The TYC is not able to provide camp on all camp trip days to those not attending the trip. Alternate arrangements must be made for campers not attending the trip. Snack Shack is open in the morning, lunch and afternoon for about 30 minutes. Snack Shack cards are available for $20. Children are also welcome to pack snacks and lunches from home. We are located at 336 Jefferson Street, and at Please have your child dropped off in the morning (between 7:45am and 9:00am), and promptly picked-up in the afternoon (between 5:00pm and 5:30pm latest). Identify species and record findings online for other scientist to learn from. (STEM) Botanical Garden in Anchorage 4. June18-22 Home, Home on the Range Western theme rodeo games, rustling up grub, herding and handling lassos. Rounding up a good time all week is in order! $$(AC) Kelly Lake Camp Campout: June 21, grades June Camping and Campfires Setting up tents then packing them. Set up your campsite, keep it safe, clean and leave no trace. Campers will prep and eat meals on the open fire. $$ Family Camp-Out: Thur 28 to Friday 29 at Trail River Campground 6. July 2-6 Super Hero Camp Meet our local super heroes. See what things they use to be a super hero. Create your own. What super power would you have? What would you do to change the world? No camp July 4th Join us for the parade on 2nd Avenue at 11:45! 7. July 9-13 Birds in Your Backyard (Part 1) Birds, birds, birds! What makes a bird? How do birds fly? What do they eat and how to identify birds. (STEM) $$(AC) Ziplining 5th-8th graders 8. July Birds in your Backyard (Part 2) Learn how to do a bird count, bird habitats, add information to a national bird organization. Learn about bird apps available. (STEM) Major Marine tour ½ day 9. July H2O so much fun It s all about water this week! Slip-N-Slid, water balloons swimming and beaches. Resurrection Bay offers opportunities to play around the water. Aug AK Animals Learn about the amazing animals in our neighborhoods and in the wild right outside your door. What s involved in taking care of your animals at home? So please don t hold us to any strict schedule because the weather may allow for special activities.
