1 Most campgrounds on the Angeles National Forest are first come, first served. However, some are managed by concessionaires who do take reservations. The National Forest Adventure Pass or Interagency passes are not required if you visit a fee campground and remain in that area; they are required if you leave that campground and recreate elsewhere on the forest. Campfire permits are not required at campgrounds where you have paid a fee, but trail camps and dispersed camping do require a current California Campfire Permit for your portable stove use. Each campsite is for a maximum of 8 people; there may be an extra charge for additional vehicles. Fire Restrictions are subject to change during the year, contact our General Forest Information line at (626) or access for the latest updates. You may camp 14 days at any one site on the district or for up to 30 days in the forest. Special Notes: Contact the local Forest Service District Office for current updates on the campground you wish to visit. Also, fees are subject to change. Please call your district office or access to confirm current pricing. Please help protect the forest by checking with your local Forest Service Office for current Fire Restrictions. Stream and lake water on the forest is not recommended for drinking. However, if you find it necessary, boil all stream or lake water for at least five minutes. Portable filtration units (0.2 microns) may be used. Always bring your own drinking water, even to the campgrounds that state they provide piped water. There is no guarantee that water will be available at the campgrounds. Severe drought or extremely low water levels may cause the water systems to cease working. 2 LOS ANGELES RIVER RANGER DISTRICT N. Little Tujunga Canyon Road San Fernando, CA (818) (818) FAX (800) (CRS, voice) (800) (CRS, TDD/TTY) Bandido Group Campground 24 campsites for tents or motor homes up to 40 feet long. No water, 2fire pits, vault toilets, and tables. Twenty horse corrals, 3 water troughs, and hitching rails. Contact the District Office for reservations. Open April 1 through Nov. 15 (snow permitting). Fee: Reservations required through the District Office to reserve half (maximum 60 people) or the entire campground (maximum 120 people) per night. Elevation: 5,840 feet Location: From 210 Fwy north of Pasadena, take the Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy 2) exit and drive north for 29 miles to the intersection of Santa Clara Divide Road Three Points (there is a sign). Turn left and drive 2 miles to the campground on the left. Bear Canyon Trail Camp 3 sites with stove, no toilets, seasonal stream water (treat before using). Hike in only. Campfire permit required. When Fire Restrictions are in place, only portable gas, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel stoves are allowed. Fee: Adventure or Interagency Pass required for vehicles parked at trailhead. Elevation: 3,400 feet Location: From the 210 north of Pasadena, exit the Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy 2). Drive 9.3 miles north to the Switzer s Picnic Area. The trail camp can be reached by walking through the picnic area downstream on the Gabrielino Trail 2 miles, then up Bear Canyon 1.5 miles. Amenities: Hiking (Bear Canyon Trail, Gabrielino National Recreation Trail). Big Buck Trail Camp 5 sites, benches, fire rings. No toilets. Stream water only (treat before using). Campfire permit required; only portable gas, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel stoves are allowed. Seasonal camping from April 1 to Nov. 15 (snow permitting). Fee: Adventure or Interagency Pass required for vehicles parked at trailhead. Elevation: 5,500 feet Location: Located on the Pacific Crest Trail between Mt. Gleason and Mill Creek Summit. Hike in from Mill Creek Summit off the Angeles Forest Highway about 6 miles, or drive 5 miles on the Santa Clara Divide Road and hike in. Buckhorn 38 sites for tents or motor homes up to 20 feet long. Piped water, fire pits, vault toilets, and picnic tables are provided. Open from April 1 to Nov 15 (snow permitting). Fee: $12 per night per site, includes 2 vehicles. Elevation: 6,500 feet Location: From 210 Fwy north of Pasadena, exit the Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy 2) and drive northeast for 36 miles to the signed campground entrance on the left. Amenities: The Burkhart Trail begins here and leads into the backcountry. Cooper Canyon is only a 2.75-mile hike from Buckhorn. 3 Chilao 111 campsites for tents or motor homes up to 36 feet long. No hookups, piped water, fire pits, vault toilets (five are fully accessible for visitors with disabilities), and picnic tables. Fee: $12 per night/per site, allowing 2 vehicles and 8 people. Elevation: 5,300 feet Location: From 210 Fwy north of Pasadena, exit the Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy 2) and drive 26 miles northeast to the signed campground entrance road on the left. Amenities: Chilao Visitor Center on grounds, nature program on summer weekends. Pacific Crest Trail accessible from Three Points, 3 miles north of campground on Highway 2. Parking available at Three Points trailhead (Adventure or Interagency Pass required at trailhead). Cooper Canyon Trail Camp 8 sites, picnic tables, stoves, and vault toilets. Seasonal stream water (treat before using). Open April 1 to Nov. 15 (snow permitting). Campfires allowed when Fire Restrictions are not in effect. Campfire permit required. Elevation: 6,300 feet Location: From 210 Fwy north of Pasadena, exit Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy 2) and drive about 34 miles north pass Mount Waterman Ski Area. Accessible via the Burkhart Trail below Buckhorn Campground. Approximately 2mile hike to the campground. Amenities: Fishing, and hiking on the Pacific Crest Trail. Coulter Group Campground 1 large campsite which accommodates up to 50 people. Piped water, vault toilet, 1 fire ring, 1 B BQ pit, and 4 tables are provided. Open April 1 through Nov. 15 (snow permitting). Fee: Fifty people maximum. Please call the District Office for information and reservations. Elevation: 5,200 feet Location: From 210 Fwy north of Pasadena take the Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy 2) exit and drive north for 26 miles to the signed campground entrance on the left. De Vore Trail Camp 6 sites with picnic tables and fire pits, no toilets. No piped water, stream water may be available ( treat before using). Campfire permit required, fires allowed in stoves when Fire Restrictions are not in effect. Equestrian use ok. Fee: Golden Passport or Adventure Pass required for vehicles parked at trailhead. Elevation: 3,000 feet Location: From 210 Fwy north of Pasadena, take the Angeles Crest Highway (2) to the Red Box Station, approximately 14 miles. Park there; walk through the gate on the Redbox Rincon Road (not paved) and walk about 5.5 miles to the campground. 4 Fall Creek Trail Camp 10 sites with stoves, fire rings and vault toilets. Water may be available in nearby seasonal stream (treat before using). Campfire permit required, only portable gas, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel stoves are allowed. Fee: Golden Passport or Adventure Pass required for vehicles parked at trailhead. Elevation: 3,500 feet Location: Located off the Angeles Forest Highway (County N3) 4.5 miles south of the Monte Cristo Campground, or hike in via Fall Creek Road 1.5 miles or Fall Creek Trail 3 miles. Amenities: Fishing in Big Tujunga Creek adjacent to site. Native fishery. Campground is located in a stand of trees overlooking this creek. Area is available for hiking or mountain bike use. Gould Mesa Trail Camp 3 sites with tables & stoves, 3 hitching rails. Vault toilets. Stream water (treat before using). Campfire permit required. Fee: Golden Passport or Adventure Pass required for vehicles parked at trailhead. Elevation: 1,500 feet Location: Hike in only. Accessible by the Gabrielino National Recreation Trail. From the 210 Freeway to Windsor Avenue. Go right on Windsor to Ventura Street and park. Take the Gabrielino Trail 2 miles to the campground. Or from the 210 Fwy exit Angeles Crest Highway and head north about 2 miles. Park on the right before you enter the forest and hike the trail 1 mile to the campground. Hoegee's Trail Camp 15 sites with tables, stoves and fire pits. Vault toilets. No piped water, seasonal stream (treat before using). Campfire permit required. Fires allowed in stoves when Fire Restrictions are not in effect. Fee: Golden Passport or Adventure Pass required for parking at trailhead. Elevation: 2,500 feet Location: From the 210 Fwy exit Santa Anita Avenue in Arcadia and go north 6 miles to the Chantry Flat Picnic Area. Hike in about 2 miles, off the Winter Creek Trail. Horse Flats 25 campsites for tents or motor homes up to 20 feet. No water, 3 hitching rails and small corrals. Tables, fire pits and vault toilets. Fires allowed in stoves when Fire Restrictions are not in effect. Open April 1 to November 15 (snow permitting). Fee: $12 per night/per site. No reservations, first come first served. Elevation: 5,800 feet Location: From 210 Fwy north of Pasadena, exit the Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy 2) and drive 29 miles to intersection of the Santa Clara Divide Road at the Three Points (there is a sign). Turn left and drive 3 miles to the campground. Idlehour Trail Camp 4 sites with tables. No stoves or toilets. Seasonal stream water only (treat before using). Campfire permit required. Only portable gas, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel stoves are allowed. Fee: Golden Passport or Adventure Pass required for vehicles parked at trailhead. Elevation: 2,500 feet Location: Hike in only. Above Henninger Flat off the Mt. Wilson toll road on the Idlehour Trail. 5 Lightning Point Group Campground 6 sites, no water, stoves, fire pits, and 26 horse corrals and hitching rails. Group size BBQ and tables. Accommodates 230 campers. Open April 1 to Nov. 15 (snow permitting). Fee: Reservations required people maximum per site. Please call the District Office for information and reservations. Elevation: 6,200 feet Location: Above the 210 Fwy in the Tujunga/Sunland area, off Mt. Gleason Road. Little Jimmy Trail Camp 16 sites with tables and stoves. Only spring water available (treat water before using). Campfire permit required. Only portable gas, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel stoves allowed during fire season. Open April 1 to November 15 (snow permitting). Fee: Adventure or Interagency Pass required for vehicles parked at Islip Saddle Trailhead (off Hwy 2). Elevation: 7,500 feet Location: From the 210 Fwy, exit Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy 2) and drive 41 miles from La Canada. Park in the large clearing to the left (north) of the highway. Cross the highway and pick up the Pacific Crest Trail leading east. Follow the well graded trail as it climbs through chaparral, then into pines for 2.5 miles. Or, from the Azusa Avenue exit (Highway 39), drive 25 miles north on San Gabriel Canyon Road (Highway 39) to the Crystal Lake entrance. Park in the large dirt clearing to the right just before the locked gate. Hike in from Crystal Lake 3 miles. Messenger Flat 10 tent sites, no water, fire pits, tables and vault toilets. April 1 to Nov. 15 (snow permitting). Fee: $5 per night/per site. Elevation: 5,500 feet Location: From the 210 Fwy north of Pasadena, exit Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy 2) and drive north for 9 miles. Turn left onto Angeles Forest Highway (County Road N3) and drive about 12 miles to the intersection with Santa Clara Divide Road. Turn left and continue 11 miles to the campground. Note: Heavy snows may result in road closure. Amenities: Two corrals available for equestrian visitors. The Pacific Crest Trail runs right past this camp, and Mt. Gleason is located about a half mile to the east. Millard Trail Camp 5 sites with fire pits, tables and vault toilets. Walk-in campsite. No water, only year round stream (treat before using). Fee: Adventure or Interagency pass required for parking. Elevation: 1,900 feet Location: From the 210 Fwy north of Pasadena, exit Lake Avenue and go north to Loma Alta Drive. Turn west (left) on Loma Alta and drive to the Chaney Trail (flashing yellow light). Follow signs to the campground. Amenities: The trail begins here to Inspiration Point and San Gabriel Peak. Millard Falls, best viewed in the winter and early spring, is approximately one mile from the campground. 6 Monte Cristo 19 sites for tents or motor homes up to 30 feet. Two sites are fully accessible for visitors with disabilities. No water, fire pits, and 3 accessible vault toilets. Fee: $8 per night, $2 for each extra vehicle. Elevation: 3,600 feet Location: From 210 Fwy north of Pasadena, exit Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy 2) and drive north for 9 miles. Turn left onto Angeles Forest Highway (County Road N3) and drive about 9 miles to the campground. Amenities: Hidden Springs Cafe is 2 miles south of the Angeles Forest Highway. Nearby stream flows eight months out of the year. Fishing opportunities two miles downstream at junction of Big Tujunga Creek. Mount Lowe Trail Camp 4 sites with tables, fire pits, and vault toilets. Hitching rail for horses. Campfire permit required. Fires allowed in stoves when Fire Restrictions are not in effect. Fee: Adventure or Interagency pass required for parking. Elevation: 4,500 feet Location: Hike in only. From the 210 Fwy north of Pasadena, exit Lake Avenue and go north to Loma Alta Drive. Turn west (left) on Loma Alta and drive to the Chaney Trail (flashing yellow light). From Locked gate hike 45 miles on road which follows old railroad bed to Mount Lowe Trail Camp. Mount Pacifico 7 tent sites, picnic tables, fire pits, vault toilets. No water. Open May 15 through Nov. 15 (snow permitting). Elevation: 7,100 feet Location: From 210 Fwy north of Pasadena, exit Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy 2) and drive north for 9 miles. Turn left onto Angeles Forest Highway (County Road N3) and drive about 12 miles to the intersection with Santa Clara Divide Road at Mill Creek Summit (there is a sign). Turn right and drive about 6 miles to the signed gate. Turn left and then take the dirt road for 4 miles to the campground. The gate is locked in the winter when the road is impassable. Walk in at that time. Oakwilde Trail Camp 7 tent sites each with table and fire pits, vault toilets. Stream water (treat before using). Caution: Be alert for high water in the rainy season. Elevation: 1,800 feet Location: From the 210 Fwy, exit Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy 2). Go north 9.5 miles to Switzer s Picnic Area and hike down the trail 3 miles. Or exit Windsor/Arroyo off in La Canada; go north to the intersection of Ventura Street. Hike in from gated fire road 5 miles to Oakwilde. Spring Trail Camp 3 sites with vault toilets and hitching rails. No stoves and no water. Fees: Golden Passport or Adventure Pass required for parking. 7 Spruce Grove Trail Camp 7 sites with tables and stoves. Vault toilets. No piped water, seasonal stream nearby (treat before using). Campfire permit required. Fires allowed in stoves when Fire Restrictions are not in effect. Fees: Golden Passport or Adventure Pass required for parking. Elevation: 3,100 feet Location: From the 210 Fwy exit Santa Anita Avenue and drive north 6 miles to Chantry Flat Picnic Area. Hike in 4 miles to campground. Amenities: Shady canyon. A privately owned pack station and a small store are located at Chantry Flat. Sulphur Springs Group Campground 12 tent sites for tents or motor homes up to 16 long. No water, vault toilets, fire pits, and tables are provided, as well as corrals and a watering trough. Open April 1 to Nov. 15 (snow permitting). Fee: Maximum of 80 people. Call the District for reservations and information. Elevation: 5,400 feet Location: From the 210 Fwy north of Pasadena, exit Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy 2) and drive north 29 miles to the intersection with Santa Clara Divide Road at Three Points (there is a sign). Turn left and drive 5 miles to the campground entrance road on the right (it will seem like the continuation of the road you re on). Tom Lucas Trail Camp 2 sites, no toilets. Water available in nearby seasonal stream (treat before using). Campfire permit required, only portable gas, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel stoves are allowed during fire Season. Please pack out what you take in and remember to Leave No Trace. Fee: Golden Passport or Adventure Pass required for parking at trailhead. Elevation: 2,900 feet Location: Located along the Trail Canyon Trail. From the 210 Fwy exit Sunland Blvd and go east to Oro Vista, then north on Oro Vista to Big Tujunga Canyon Road. Hike in about 3.5 miles from Big Tujunga Canyon Road. Valley Forge Trail Camp 12 sites, picnic tables, vault toilets and fire pits provided. Seasonal stream water when available (treat before using). Hikers, bikes, or equestrian use only, closed to motor vehicles. Campfire permit required. Elevation: 3,500 feet Location: From the 210 Fwy north of Pasadena, exit Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy 2) and drive north 14 miles to the Red Box. Hike in, following the signs, 3.5 miles to the campground. Amenities: Water play and fishing opportunities. West Fork Trail Camp 7 sites, picnic tables, vault toilets and fire pits provided. Seasonal stream water only. (Treat before using). Campfire permit required. Hikers, bikes or equestrian use only. Fee: Golden Passport or Adventure Pass required for vehicles parked at trailhead. Elevation: 3,100 feet Location: From the 210 Fwy north of Pasadena, exit Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy 2) and drive 14 miles to the Red Box Ranger Station. Park there and walk through the gate on the Redbox Rincon Road (not paved) and hike in about 5 miles to campground. Amenities: The Silver Moccasin and Gabrielino National Recreation Trails intersect just south of the camp. Water play and fishing opportunities. 8 SAN GABRIEL RIVER RANGER DISTRICT 110 N. Wabash Ave. Glendora, CA (626) (626) FAX (800) (CRS, voice) (800) (CRS, TDD/TTY) Coldbrook 22 sites for tents or motor homes up to 22 feet long. Piped water, tables, fire rings and vault toilets. No hookups or showers. Fee: Camping is $12 per night, additional vehicles $5 each. Or, with a valid Adventure Pass: $10 per night and $4 for extra vehicles. No reservations, first come first served. The Day use fee is the Adventure Pass or $5 per vehicle, exit before sundown. Elevation: 3,350 feet Location: From 210 Fwy, exit Azusa Avenue. Drive north 18 miles on San Gabriel Canyon Road (Hwy 39) to the campground entrance. Amenities: Situated on the North Fork of the San Gabriel River, approximately four miles from where the river is often stocked with rainbow trout in the summer. Roughly a quarter mile from camp is the Upper Bear Creek trailhead for backpacking trips leading into the wilderness. Crystal Lake Campground 176 campsites for tents or motor homes up to 22 feet long. Piped water, tables, fire pits and flush toilets. No hookups or showers. Gates controlling access are closed at night from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Fee: $12 per night, additional vehicles $5 each. Day use only $5 per vehicle, exit before 10 p.m. A valid Adventure Pass will be honored for day use, trailhead parking and the extra vehicle fee for campsites. Elevation: 5,800 feet Location: Within the Crystal Lake Recreation Area. From the 210 Fwy, exit Azusa Avenue. Drive north 25 miles on San Gabriel Canyon Road (Highway 39) to the campground entrance. Amenities: 11 hiking trails accessible from the recreation area. The Department of Fish & Game regularly stocks the lake with rainbow trout. Deer Flat Group Campground 9 group campsites accommodating up to a total of 300 people, RVs up to 30 feet. Piped water, picnic tables and flush toilets. Season begins Memorial Day to Sept. 30. Fee: Varies by site from $40 per day maximum of 20 persons to $600 per day for maximum of 300 persons. Elevation: 6,300 feet Location: Within the Crystal Lake Recreation Area. From the 210 Fwy, exit Azusa Avenue. Drive north 25 miles on San Gabriel Canyon Road (Hwy 39) to the campground entrance. Amenities: (See Crystal Lake's amenities.) Deer Flat is only about a mile from the Pacific Crest Trail. Numerous other hiking trails are in the area. 9 Glenn Trail Camp 10 sites with tables, stoves and vault toilets. Stream water only (treat before using). Accessible to visitors with disabilities. Permits are available through the District Office for road entry. Fee: Golden Passport or Adventure Pass required for vehicles parked at trailhead. Elevation: 2,000 feet Location : From the 210 Fwy exit Azusa Avenue. Drive 12 miles north on San Gabriel Canyon Road (Hwy 39) to the West Fork of the San Gabriel River. Hike 6.5 miles west from Highway 39 to Glenn Trail Camp. Amenities: A bicycle trail runs along side the West Fork. Trout fishing is available, catch and keep, from the gate to the second bridge, catch and release from the second bridge up to Cogswell Reservoir. Off Road Vehicle area located 2 miles south. Maker Flat 21 campsites for tents and RVs up to 22 feet. Piped water, stoves, firepots and flush toilets. Fee: Daily camping fee with Adventure Pass $10 per site, $3 each additional vehicle, and day use covered under Adventure Pass. Season: Open from May through October, closed in winter. Fee: Daily camping fee without an Adventure Pass $12 per site, $4 each additional vehicle, $5 day use fee. Elevation: 6,000 feet Location: From Foothill Blvd in Claremont, take Mills Avenue until it turns into Mt. Baldy Road. Drive 12 miles north on Mt. Baldy Road (pass Mount Baldy Village) to the campground on the right. (Note: Foothill can be reached by taking Mountain Avenue north from the 10 Fwy.) Amenities: Located near the historic Mount Baldy Schoolhouse and Visitor Center in the Mount Baldy Village. Just a short 20minute hike away is the San Antonio waterfalls, and the trail to the top of Mount Baldy. Also, nearby is the Icehouse Canyon trailhead into the Cucamonga Wilderness Area: Visitor Permits are required for entry, and can be obtained at the Visitor Center or the District Office. SAN CLARA/MOJAVE RIVERS RD Crown Valley Road Acton, CA (661) (661) FAX (800) (CRS, voice) (800) (CRS, TDD/TTY) Please Note: The Campground Symbol on your Angeles National Forest map at Bear Creek is an error. This is not a Forest Service Trail Camp on Bear Creek north of the West Fork Recreation Area. The following campgrounds, which may show on an older map, have been permanently removed: Atmore Meadows, Big Oak, Bouquet, Chaparral, Falls, Prospect, South Portal and Warm Springs. Apple Tree 8 tent sites. Picnic tables, fire pits, vault toilets, and piped water (shut off when temperatures reaches freezing). Season: Year-round. Elevation : 6,200 feet Location: From the I15 near Cajon, take Highway 138 west. Turn left on Angeles Crest Highway and drive 9 miles to the Big Pines Information Station. Just past the station bear right onto Big Pines Highway (County Road N4) and drive 2 miles to the campground. 10 Bear Camp 7 sites with tables and firepots. No water. Vault toilets. Trash pick up is not available, so please help by taking your trash out with you. Season: Year-round. Elevation: 5,200 feet Location: From Castaic, turn northeast on Lake Hughes Road and drive 27 miles to the town of Lake Hughes. Turn left on Elizabeth Lake Road and drive to Sawmill Mountain (northwest) on Sawmill Mountain Lievre Ridge Road and about 10 miles to the campground. Amenities: Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) nearby. Big Rock 8 sites for tents or RVs up to 20 feet. Picnic tables, fire pit, vault toilets provided, no piped water. Season: Year round. Elevation: 5,000 feet Location: From Highway 138 in Pear blossom, turn south on Longview Road. Turn left on Avenue W and drive past the Mojave Work Station. Turn right on Big Rock Creek Road and continue up the canyon about 7 miles to where the pavement ends. Turn right onto the dirt road and continue to the campground on your right. Amenities: Primitive camp, suited to four wheelers. Forest Service map advisable. Forest Service Road 2N11 to the southeast connects to a network of backcountry roads and trails. Blue Ridge 8 sites for tents or RV s up to 20 feet. Picnic tables, fire pit, vault toilets provided, no piped water. Season: May through November, subject to change during snow and hazardous road conditions. Elevation: 8,000 feet Location: From I15 near Cajon, take Highway 138 west. Bear left and continue on Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy 2) and drive 9 miles to the Big Pines Information Station. Bear left and continue on Angeles Crest Highway for 1.8 miles. Turn left (northwest) on County Road N2 (Pine Canyon Road) and drive to Sawmill Mountain (northwest), on Sawmill Mountain-Liebre Ridge Road and drive about 10 miles to the campground. Amenities: This campground is set on the Pacific Crest Trail. It is also one mile from the Burnt Peak Trailhead which leads into the backcountry. South Fork 21 sites for tents and RV s up to 16 feet. Elevation: 1,700 feet Location: From Castaic, drive 6 miles south on Interstate 5 to the Magic Mountain Parkway exit. Take the exit to Valencia Blvd. Turn left and drive about 2 miles to Bouquet Canyon Road. Turn north on Bouquet Canyon Road and drive about 7 miles to the campground.
