2 summer camp The Best Summer Ever! Gurnee Park District Summer Camp promotes fun, adventure and friendship in an outdoor environment. We offer a wide variety of camps including sports, crafts, and special interest. We also coordinate with Woodland's Summer School program to ensure your camper has the best summer ever! Our flexible options allow you to choose the best schedule for you and your family. We have a well-trained, seasoned staff that is committed to each camper's safety and well-being. Forms can be found at GurneeParkDistrict.com and must be completed two weeks prior to camp starting. Camp Open House Thursday June 8 6:00-7:00p Come to your camp site and meet your counselors! *Mini Camp dates may change based on the school calendar. No Camp July 4. Going on vacation? Register for all three sessions of camp, and we ll prorate one week of camp. Getting Started Sign up for the program reflecting the grade your child will be entering in fall In order to register for camp, you may pay a $50 deposit or the full amount per child for each session at the time of registration to hold your spot*. Note: The $50 deposit is non-refundable. All camp fees must be paid in full two weeks before the session begins. A $25 late fee per child will be charged for payments not received by the final balance due dates. Your child may not attend camp until the full session fee is paid. Camp Swim Test Saturday, June 3 or Sunday, June 11 Hunt Club Park Aquatic Center 10:00-10:30a All kindergarten through eighth grade campers who swim at our Aquatic Center are required to take a swim test to determine where your camper will swim while at the pool. 3 Camp Swim Safety Classes Learn to Swim with Camp Before Camp Learn to Swim Lessons are offered in conjunction with all full and half day camps. Swim instructors follow GPD standards as campers progress through a variety of swimming and safety skills. A swim test will be given to any new participant on the first day of lessons, evaluating each child s ability and placing them in the appropriate level. Parents must drop off their children at the Aquatic Center before each class. After lessons, children will be transported to their camp sites (cost included). 4 Explorers Camp - for children new to the camp experience These camps are for children 3-6 years old by June 12, who have little to no experience attending camp and who are toilet trained. Campers enjoy summer songs, games, and crafts as well as nature, wading pool and sprinkler water play built around a weekly theme. All participants are supervised by our experienced staff. Camp takes place outdoors in a fenced playground setting, utilizing preschool rooms for indoor space as needed. Camp may meet at a different location for special activities. Explorers camps have an 8:1 camper to staff ratio. You may pay in full or pay a non-refundable $50 deposit per session. 5 Camps - for children 4-6 yrs. old Special one session, half day camps that focus on a specific theme. You may pay in full or pay a non-refundable $50 deposit per session. (SH) Safety City Camp Safety City is an interactive camp that teaches campers about various aspects of safety in a fun camp environment. Safety topics will include home, school, traffic, water, outdoor/playground, stranger danger, and much more. Campers will explore these concepts through songs, games, crafts and drama. Campers will also learn bike safety and how to board, ride and exit a bus safely. This camp will also include water play and a visitor from local police or fire stations. Campers must bring a water bottle and gym shoes each day. Tricycles will be provided by the park district; however, campers will need to provide their own helmets. Summer school for District 50 Wildcat Summer Adventures This camp is designed for children attending District 50 Wildcat Summer Adventures Program. Please note that this camp is Monday-Thursday and will take place before and after summer school. Campers will participate in a variety of supervised outdoor activities such as games, sports and arts and crafts. There is a separate Friday full-day option to complete your summer school week. Campers enrolled in the Friday Only camp will join with their age group of campers in Discovery, Adventure or Teen Camp at Hunt Club and will follow their Friday camp schedule. Parents MUST contact Woodland transportation and pay the transportation fee in order to bus their child from school to camp. 6 Camps around your schedule - flexible to meet your needs Discovery Camp Discovery Camp has been designed to meet the needs of this age group with an 8:1 camper to staff ratio. Our counselors bring experience and are trained to work with children as they guide your child through a summer devoted to fun. Discovery Camp offers opportunities for socialization, crafts, nature, songs and games. At camp, your child will meet new friends, develop social skills, build confidence and independence as well as gain a sense of responsibility. Included in days of discovery are field trips, themed weeks, special events, cookouts, swimming, games, songs, crafts, and more. Campers will swim twice a week at Hunt Club Park Aquatic Center and go on one field trip per session. You may pay in full or pay a nonrefundable $50 deposit per session. Our staff brings experience and enthusiasm and can t wait to guide your child through a summer devoted to fun. This camp offers age specific activities guaranteed to transport your child into a world of adventure. 8 SUMMER CAMP Specialty Camps Aquatic Adventures Camp Camp Creations Each week, campers will focus on a different art medium such as painting, drawing, or sculpture. Campers will learn different techniques to make their own masterpieces and develop their own individual artistic style. Along with learning different mediums, campers will also participate in many outdoor activities, such as nature walks, where campers can draw or paint their surroundings, as well as games and crafts. This camp will also include one field trip each week, swim twice a week at Hunt Club Park Aquatic Center, and a cookout each week. Camper to staff ratio is 10:1. The duration of this camp will encompass many aspects of water play as well as daily swimming at different aquatic facilities. Each week, campers will go on two field trips to nearby aquatic facilities, such as Aquatic Centers, water parks or beaches. The remaining days will be spent at Hunt Club Park Aquatic Center. Weather permitting, campers will enjoy five days of swimming each week! Campers will also enjoy crafts and games, along with a weekly cookout. Campers should bring swimming attire, sunscreen, towel, snack, water bottle, and lunch every day. In the event that a field trip gets cancelled due to inclement weather, camp will be held in the Hunt Club Park Community Center. Camper to staff ratio is 10:1. 9 Specialty Camps Nature and Survival Camps - let your child discover the great outdoors Our Nature and Outdoor Survivor Camps are designed to best meet the needs of campers who love the outdoors. Our staff brings experience, enthusiasm and can't wait to guide your child through a summer devoted to fun. These camps will foster a love for learning and exploring the outdoors. Campers will learn various skills and will participate in numerous activities outside. Your child will meet new friends, develop social skills, build confidence and independence as well as gain a sense of responsibility. You may pay in full, or pay a non-refundable $50 deposit per session. (SH) Nature Camp This camp is for children who love exploring and learning about the outdoors. Each week will be broken into different learning topics such as animal tracking and identification, life cycles, tree and plant identification, geo tracking, and many more nature discoveries. This camp also offers a field trip, a bike ride, canoeing, swimming twice a week at the Hunt Club Park Aquatic Center and an overnight camp-out to utilize the skills learned throughout this three week camp!
