2 Welcome To Girl Scout Camp Dear Girls and Parents, To many of us summer is the best time of the year. Warmer weather, more daylight, more occasions to be outside, to be active, to be with our friends. Time was when summer was seen as time to spare, but for most families today summer is a different schedule, a different pace and often a different challenge... For girls it is a break from the routines of school, a time to play and a chance to explore who they will be when school starts again... As parents, our first concern is that our children are safe. Next we want them engaged and having fun. Girl Scouts of Nassau County offers summer programs to meet the needs of girls and parents. Whether you chose Summer Fun in Nassau County or opt for sleep-away camp at beautiful Blue Bay in East Hampton, we promise to provide girls opportunities to develop friendships, learn new skills, enjoy the outdoors and have fun in a safe and nurturing environment to make memories! Our goal is to make Girl Scouting available to Every Girl, Everywhere. Girl Scouts is a diverse and inclusive organization; some financial aid is available. While most of our campers also participate in other Girl Scout activities throughout the year, many girls enter and remain in Girl Scouts only through our summer programs. If you are new to Girl Scouts, or if you have not been active for awhile, please consider our summer programs as a great way to get involved. Girl Scouts is the largest movement for girls and young women in the world. As a Girl Scout you are one of 21,000 girls in Nassau County and millions of girls across the United States and around the world who are part of an organization committed to strengthening girls through values, skills and commitment to community. The power (and fun!) of girls together can, does and will change the world! Thank you for considering Girl Scouts of Nassau County s summer programs for your daughter. Your trust is our highest recommendation. For the past 90 years parents and girls have chosen Girl Scout summer programs because they are safe, well organized and provide girls with values, skills and fun in keeping with the Girl Scout Promise and Law. We value your participation. If you have any questions about Girl Scouts or our programs, please call me. Peace, Donna Ceravolo Executive Director Mission Statement The Council exists to offer all girls in Nassau County an opportunity to realize their potential. It seeks to enable them to understand and become better prepared for the realities of their lives in a changing world, through activities that are consistent with the Girl Scout philosophy. 16 A Camping Poem We had spiders in our tent. It wasn t like a cottage that you rent. We saw lots of beautiful trees. We all managed to hurt our knees. I swear, the sun was too much on our hair. But we didn t care! We saw lots of talent show acts. But we didn t have to pay any tax. We walked so long. We decided to sing a song. We all made butterflies. And we had no hair ties. We played lots of games. And learned some new names. Shannon D.
