1 CAMP GENERAL INFORMATION AGE REQUIREMENTS In order to provide a safe and enjoyable program, age restrictions are applied to our camp programs. Campers must be the minimum age required on the start date of the program. BEFORE AND AFTER CARE Before and after care is available for most City of Brampton camps. Extended hours are 7:30 am-9:00 am and 4:00 pm-6:00 pm. A separate registration and fee is required. PICK AND DROP OFF GUIDELINES Prior to first day of camp, please visit our website ( to fill out all required forms which will be due on the first day of camp. Parents/Guardians will require to show photo identification to camp staff when picking up their participant(s). GOOD BEHAVIOUR GUIDELINES The City of Brampton is committed to providing a safe and harassment-free environment. Coarse language, physical, aggressive, disrespectful, or uncooperative behaviour is not acceptable. If inappropriate behaviour occurs, it will be recorded, reported and may result in removal from the program and/or facility. PAGE 20 PARTICIPANT CONDUCT Please inform us of any family or behavioural concerns. Our staff will make every effort to accommodate your child s needs; however, we reserve the right to withdraw your child from the program should their behaviour cause harm to themselves, other participants, staff or property. SUN SAFETY Our motto SLIP SLAP SLOP Remember to slip on a shirt, slap on a hat and slop on the sunscreen. Campers should bring sunscreen (minimum SPF 30), reusable water bottle and a hat to camp every day. LUNCH AND SNACKS Campers are responsible to bring their own lunch, snacks and drinks. Please pack items that do not require refrigeration or heating. Remember to send a reusable water bottle PLEASE NO NUT PRODUCTS ALLERGEN AWARE ENVIRONMENT City of Brampton camps have adopted an allergen reduced environment. Please avoid packing foods that contain common allergens such as peanuts or nuts of any kind. Please be aware that lunch checks are not completed. MEDICATION For your child s well-being, make sure staff is aware of any allergies or medications. It is strongly recommended that campers take medication at home under the supervision of parents/guardians. Campers requiring medication, (e.g. EpiPen, asthma inhalers) during program hours must have a signed Personal Information Record with a current photo of the participant. Medication is only accepted in daily doses. Please ensure that all medication is submitted in its original container. Campers carrying an EpiPen or inhaler are to carry their pens or inhalers in a fanny pack that is accessible at all times. Staff and the department are not responsible for lost or damaged medications. CAMP DRESS CODE Running shoes are strongly recommended for all camps. Comfortable play clothes. Please label all towels, bags and clothing. Sunscreen and hats are strongly recommended. Staff and the department are not responsible for lost or stolen items brought to camp. RAIN OR SHINE All camps continue to operate during inclement weather. Please dress your child accordingly.

2 GENERAL INTERESTS SUMMER DATES Camps begin July 3, 2019 Camps are not scheduled to run August 6, 2019 In addition to the specifics in the descriptions below, campers may also participate in various camp activities such as cooperative games, sports, water activities and crafts. These Camp hours are 9:00 am - 4:00 pm unless otherwise stated. Remember that your child(ren) have spent a long, funfilled day at camp. Please pick them up on time. Participants not picked up on time may be subject to a late fee charge. Please see our website for details. ANIMAL ADVENTURE TRIPPERS This program is for campers who love animals. Participants will learn about the habitat, care and characteristics of various animals. Campers will embark on an adventure once a week to an animal-themed attraction. Trip and bus fees are included in the price of the program. Please contact your local recreation centre for more information about weekly destinations. Campers may also and crafts. These Offered at: Earnscliffe and Professor s Lake ARCHERY This program is for participants who would like to learn or refine their bow and arrow skills. Participants will learn parts of the bow and arrow, proper shooting technique including stances, release, follow-through and anchor points. including running shoes. Campers may also and crafts. These Offered at: Professor s Lake ARTS AND CRAFTS This hands-on camp will encourage creativity and imagination in arts and crafts through the use of paper, paint and play dough. Age: 4 6, 6 10, Offered at: Century Gardens PAGE 21 BAKE AND DECORATE Come learn to bake a variety of different types of cupcakes and decorate them too! Campers will learn how to use different decorating frosting tips in order to learn to make different patterns, designs, flowers, and animals on cupcakes. Campers may also and crafts. Offered at: Century Gardens BALL HOCKEY Participants will learn the rules, offensive and defensive positioning, passing, shooting and ball control. Technical skills will be taught through instruction as well as game play. Required Equipment: CSA certified hockey helmet with full facemask. Campers may also and crafts. These Age: 6 8, 8 10, Offered at: Chris Gibson and Earnscliffe BARNYARD EXPLORERS Campers will learn about a variety of different farm animals and the steps needed to ensure their health and care. General barnyard maintenance will be taught through hands-on challenges and activities. Participants will also use the Children s Garden to study vegetable growth and upkeep. including running shoes. Campers may also and crafts. Age: 6 10 Offered at: Chinguacousy Park BASEBALL Participants will learn the rules, positioning, throwing, catching, fielding and batting. Technical skills will be taught through instruction as well as game play. Required Equipment: Baseball glove and helmet and comfortable outdoor/weather appropriate clothing including running shoes. Participants may bring their own baseball bats if desired. Age: 6 8, 8 10, Offered at: Chris Gibson and Earnscliffe BASKETBALL This camp is for ballers of all abilities. Participants will enhance their offensive and defensive positioning, dribbling, shooting and passing. Technical skills will be taught through instruction as well as game play. activities vary by location Age: 6 8, 8 10, Offered at: Brampton Soccer Centre, Cassie Campbell Community Centre, Century Gardens, Gore Meadows Community Centre BIKE ADVENTURE Bike riders are encouraged to come out and explore the City of Brampton and some of its amazing parks on their bicycle through our beautiful trails! Youth will have the opportunity to learn bicycle mechanics, bicycle safety, riding dynamics and proper bicycle etiquette on and off road. Required Equipment: Bike in good working order with a working bell, CSA certified bike helmet, comfortable outdoor/weather appropriate clothing including running shoes. Offered at: Chinguacousy Park, Jim Archdekin BMX Campers will develop fundamental BMX bike skills that include: balance, how to drop in, and riding the bowl. Through these basics campers will also learn to follow skate park etiquette. Required Equipment: BMX Bike, knee pads, elbow pads and CSA certified BMX helmet and comfortable outdoor/weather appropriate clothing including running shoes. Campers will develop a toolbox of skills such as effective communication, bullying prevention, stress management, positive body image and decision making, to assist in managing friendships and home life. Offered at: Chinguacousy Wellness Centre BRAMPTON LIFESAVING CLUB Brampton Lifesaving Camp offers serious fun and energy while working to develop skills and gain experience in a variety of competitive lifesaving events. This Camp stresses fun and aquatic skill development

3 based on personal-best achievement. Prerequisite: Can complete a minimum of 100m of uninterrupted front crawl. Campers may also participate in These Age: 8 16 Offered at: Balmoral BUSINESS KIDS-LEMONADE STAND Through high-level games and workshops this program will challenge every participant as he/she uncovers their own entrepreneurial skills. Through the program campers will learn how to start, manage and close their own business. Individuals will design and produce an innovative product and learn how to use marketing tools to promote their business at Market Day. Campers may also participate in These Offered at: Brampton Soccer Centre, Century Gardens CANOE AND KAYAK This program will introduce you to the basic skills of kayaking and canoeing. Learn efficient paddling, proper balance in the boat, basic boat rescue and how to stay safe on the water. This is a great introduction and confidence builder for those preparing for the open waters. All equipment will be provided. Prerequisite: No swimming ability required, but participants must be comfortable in deep water with a lifejacket. Children will learn basic steps in a variety of dance disciplines such as ballet and jazz. Participants will learn a new routine each week that will be performed at the end of each week. This two-week program introduces acting skills, a variety of dance styles, and art techniques. 4 GENERAL INTERESTS DRAMA ARTS - TRIPLE THREAT In this two-week camp, participants of all abilities and skill levels will have the opportunity to become triple threats as they participate in a Broadway-style boot camp. Advanced singing, acting and dancing techniques will be explored. Participants will present a musical theatre performance using sound, lights, and costumes on stage. Age: Offered at: Central Public School DRAMA ARTS- EMERGING PERFORMERS This two-week program takes your camper s performance to the next level! Campers will have the opportunity to further enhance their acting skills, dance moves, and art techniques. Campers will be introduced to more challenging characters and will use their talents to create a theatrical performance using sound, lights, and costumes on stage. Offered at: Central Public School DRAMA PERFORMANCE BASICS In this camp, drama, dance and art will be combined to create an exciting play with a unique script and props; made by the participants. Participants will be able to show off their hard work and talent with a showcase at the end of the week. Campers may also participate in various camp activities activities and crafts. Campers will participate in team building activities and games, camp projects, daily swims, archery and hikes along the Credit River, in order to reach the goal of helping to develop their leadership and teamwork skills. including running shoes and swimming attire. Age: Offered at: Eldorado Park ELDORADO TRAILBLAZERS This camp has three areas your child will enjoy: environmental, adventure and team building. Environmental includes forest exploration, hiking, pond study and animal tracking. Adventure includes water hiking, fishing and canoeing. Team building includes low ropes, orienteering and shelter building. All hiking trips will be to GTA conservation areas. Trip and bus fees are included in the price of the program. Offered at: Eldorado Park EMS Campers who have always wanted to learn about being a First Responder will have the opportunity to interact with Firefighters, Paramedics and Police Officers. Campers will explore Emergency Services to learn about fire, rescue and emergency medical services, in a safe, controlled, educational and fun environment. Campers may also participate in Age: 6 10 Offered at: Chinguacousy Park ENGINEERING HABITATS Campers will work together to research and investigate the biology of a variety of insect and plant species, including their natural habitats and ecosystems. 5 ENGINEERING LEGO BUILDERS 1 Participants will develop their social skills and deepen their understanding of the world around them using Duplo LEGO bricks. Each week a new theme will help them explore and learn about their communities through discussions, building activities, roleplaying, and idea sharing. Participants will be provided with the opportunity to explore the world beyond their immediate surroundings while learning new vocabulary about people, places, and things in real life. Some of the themes may include: own town, my home, community helpers, healthcare workers, shopping, and places to eat. Campers may also participate in various camp activities activities and crafts. These activities vary by location. Age: 4 6 Offered at: South Fletcher s Sportsplex ENGINEERING LEGO BUILDERS 2 Participants will continue to develop their social skills and deepen their understanding of the world around them using Duplo LEGO bricks. Participants will work through real world investigations and problem solving to make assumptions and predictions as they make models. Themes to be explored may include: pinwheels, spinning tops, seesaws, rafts, car launchers, and measuring cars. Campers may also participate in various camp activities activities and crafts. Age: 5 7 Offered at: Greenbriar PAGE 24 ENGINEERING LEGO EARLY SIMPLE MACHINES 2 Participants will continue to work as young scientists, engineers and designers working with LEGO simple and powered machines bricks and problem-solving tasks that promote design technology, science and mathematics. Participants will use their knowledge of simple machines to work through real world investigations and use problem solving skills to make assumptions and predictions as they design and make models. Prerequisite: Engineering LEGO Simple & Powered Machines 1 (8 to 12 Years) Age: 5 7 Offered at: Greenbriar ENGINEERING LEGO SIMPLE AND POWERED MACHINES 1 Participants will be able to work as young scientists, engineers and designers working with LEGO simple and powered machines bricks and guided activities that promote design technology, science and mathematics. Participants will learn about work through real world activities surrounding the topics of levers, wheels and axles, pulleys, inclined planes, wedges, screws, gears, cams, pawl and ratchets, and structures. Age: 9 13 Offered at: Greenbriar ENGINEERING LEGO SIMPLE AND POWERED MACHINES 2 Participants will continue to work as young scientists, engineers and designers working with LEGO simple and powered machines bricks and problem-solving tasks that promote design technology, science and mathematics. Participants will use their knowledge of simple machines to work through real world investigations and use problem solving skills to make assumptions and predictions as they design and make models. 6 GENERAL INTERESTS EXPEDITION TRIPPERS Campers will participate in the traditional camp experience and will travel on two different trips throughout the week to the GTA s premiere attractions. These Age: 6 10, Offered at: Brampton Soccer Centre FIELD AND WATER SPORTS Campers will learn basic rules and techniques of various field sports such as baseball, lacrosse, soccer as well as favourite water sports such as underwater hockey, water polo and water basketball. Prerequisite: No swimming ability required, but participants must be comfortable in deep water with a lifejacket. clothing including running shoes and bathing/swimming attire. These Offered at: Earnscliffe FINE ART STUDIO Campers will participate in creative and fun exercises over the week to develop their use of some of the basic elements of art such as tone, line, perspective, texture and shape. A variety of materials will be explored including charcoal, pencils, mixed media, watercolour and acrylic paints. Campers will host an Art Show featuring their work at the end of each session. Offered at: Central Public School FITZONE AND FUN Campers will participate in fitness activities and games to develop physical literacy and fundamental movement skills. Campers will be active throughout the week indoors and outdoors and work towards the Swim to Survive Standard in the pool, which includes rolling into deep water, treading water for one minute, and swimming 50 metres. They will also work towards increasing their knowledge in healthy active living, nutrition and safety. This camp is conducted predominantly in French and is a great opportunity for children who are attending French Immersion for school. Age: 4 6, 6 8, 8 10 Offered at: Brampton Soccer Centre FUN WITH SNACKS AND TREATS Through this camp, participants will indulge their creative side while working with no bake recipes. Participants will make a variety of intriguing treats and snacks that use basic ingredients without the need to use an oven. Age: 4 6, 6 10 Offered at: Central Public School, Earnscliffe GLEE CLUB Sing, dance and have fun! Campers will be encouraged to learn today s most popular song lyrics and create their own choreography and dances to go along with them. Campers may also participate in These Offered at: Gore Meadows Community Centre, Jim Archdekin GOLF This program will teach the fundamentals of golf and various ways to improve your swing. Focus will be on driving, chipping, pitching and putting. Participants will practice on our practice nets, putting greens and 9-Hole golf course. Required Equipment: Full set of golf clubs and appropriate golf attire. Offered at: Peel Village Golf Course GUITAR Participants will have fun learning basic notes, strumming and reading chord charts using their own guitar! Music books will be provided. Age: 4 6, 6 13 Offered at: Ken Giles GYMNASTICS CHEERLEADING This program focuses on stretching, stunts, formations, tricks, cheers and chants. Participants will coordinate various routines that showcase their flexibility, coordination and strength. Participants will also take part in Gymnastics activities such as Trampoline, Beams, and Circuits. Age: 4 6, 6 13 Offered at: Ken Giles HOCKEY Participants will learn the rules and improve their basic hockey skills as well as skill development in the areas of stick handling, passing, shooting, offense and defense. Hockey will be a major focus of the camp. Prerequisite: Participants must have a competent level of skating and have completed a minimum of one season of organized hockey. Required Equipment: Participants must wear full hockey equipment including: CSA certified hockey helmet with a full facemask, hockey gloves, shoulder pads, elbow pads, shin pads, hockey skates and hockey jersey. This course will work on improving their teambuilding and leadership skills through games and activities. SFA incorporates Emergency First Aid topics with a more in-depth understanding of first aid including: legal implications of first aid treatment, spinal injuries, heat or cold injuries, bone and joint injuries, chest injuries, and medical emergencies. This course also covers all aspects of CPR skills and theory for adult, child and infant victims including two rescuer CPR skills.
