1 Welcome to Camp Jubilee CAMP JUBILEE PROSPECTUS Camp Jubilee is owned by Girl Guides of Canada and operated by Calgary Area Girl Guides. It is located on the south bank of the Bow River at Cochrane, east of Highway 22, situated on 85 acres of terraced grassland, mixed forest, and the river s floodplain, inhabited by several species of wildlife, waterfowl and terrestrial birds. This Camp Jubilee Prospectus package includes: The General Camping Standards that pertain to the campsite; A map and directions to the campsite A site map indicating the locations of the residential and tent facilities, trails and program areas. A schedule of available services at each site; Emergency Exit plans for the residential buildings; Checklists of tasks to be completed before leaving camp. Should you have any questions or concerns regarding the services or the facilities offered, please contact the Facilities Booking Coordinator before camp. During emergency situations at camp, contact the Co- West District Commissioner, Devina Shah ( ). (If Devina is not available, contact the Area Commissioner Arzmund Teja ( ) or Deputy Denise Lawson ( ) (other emergency numbers are listed in residential building drawings.) General Camping Standards 911 Emergency Information Locator / House Numbers are and Range Rd 42. (Legal Land Description W1/2, Sec 34, TP25, R4 W5M) Emergency response time is less than 30 minutes. If calling 911, dispatch a party to direct responders to the emergency. Telephone For EMERGENCY USE ONLY (located in Centennial North, Centennial South and Pallesen House). Direct dial from Calgary ANY long distance calls will be charged back to the renter. There is cellular coverage at camp. Non-emergency RCMP Emergency Evacuation Buildings are equipped with smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. **Note: Building alarms are NOT monitored by the Cochrane fire department except for Centennial. In the event of fire, call 911. In the event of a false alarm, see instructions near the fire panel for resetting the alarm. If an alarm is sounding in the vicinity of the utility room in Pallesen House, it is likely the septic alarm. Enter the room and follow instructions for silencing and reporting the alarm. In case of a fire or flood threat at Camp Jubilee, leave the camp in an orderly manner by way of the main access road to the gate, if possible. If escape by that route is not possible, lead the campers on to the upper terraces toward Highway 22. Fire Drill A formal fire drill must be conducted during the first 24 hours of any camp. Enter time and date of fire drill on log posted in residential buildings. Jubilee April 2018 Page 1 of 12

2 Health There is an urgent care centre in Cochrane (Ph: ). Responsible Guiders should be aware of health concerns identified on Health forms for all participants. Each camp must have a designated first aider for every 25 participants in accordance with Safe Guide requirements. Girl Guides of Canada assumes no responsibility for accidents or illness that may occur at camp. However, all participants of Girl Guide sanctioned events are insured by the blanket policy of the Girl Guides of Canada. Guiders are responsible for submitting Safe Guide forms to an assessor prior to camp. All non-guiding groups are responsible for their own insurance coverage. Personal Property Girl Guides of Canada, Calgary Area does not assume responsibility for loss of or damage to personal belongings or property. Speed Limit The speed limit is 15 km/h. Adhere to this speed at ALL times. Parking and Drop off/pick up Park in the designated area for your campsite. There is very limited space for vehicles at Namiyi, and Rabbit. While Guiders may park a vehicle for emergencies at this site, please ask parents to drop off/pick up campers at the parking areas near Centennial South. Water Drinking water is supplied from a well. The well water is tested monthly to ensure that it is safe to drink. There is running water in Centennial, Pallesen and Namiyi residential buildings. There are outside taps at Centennial South, Centennial North and Pallesen House for all other sites to access water. Please conserve water at ALL sites at ALL times! River Boating and/or swimming activities are NOT permitted. Girls must always be supervised in the area of the river. Take caution near the river and the lagoon especially when spring run-off is occurring. Fires Check for fire bans posted on for Cochrane. There is a campfire circle at each campsite. Keep fires small and under control to prevent starting a grass fire. Stir well with water to ensure fire is out before leaving. At end of camp, empty ashes into ash barrel and leave unburnt wood in fire pit. Tent shelters and Rabbit have wood stoves. Please do not use wood stove for cooking. Keep any flammable items at least 2 meters away. Remove ash to ash barrel after use. Firewood A limited supply of cut and split firewood is stored and ready for use in the supply box for your site. Refill the supply box before you leave camp. Additional wood is located in the main Woodshed west of Deerpad, Smoking: Smoking is NOT permitted in any of the buildings, on any trails, or grasslands. Barbecue Shelter If barbecuing, confirm that the propane tanks have been shut off after use. Clean the burners and griddles and cover when it has cooled off completely. After use, return barbecue(s) to inside shelter and lock. Sweep the floor, clean the picnic tables and benches used in the shelter and place them in their original setting. A small selection of play equipment is available in the BBQ shelter. Please return it after use. Jubilee April 2018 Page 2 of 12

3 Pets Dogs and other pets are not permitted on the campsite. Please inform the parents bringing children to camp of this policy. Pesticides & Herbicides These chemicals are not to be used on this campsite. Rodent and insect control in and around the buildings is the responsibility of the site s management. Do not feed the rodents. They are a nuisance to others and damage the sites. Dish Washing and Dish Towels Sanitary procedures must be followed for Dishwashing (see posted instructions). ALL dishes must be air dried as per the Dishwashing Requirements of the Alberta Public Health Act. The use of dishtowels is not permitted in any of the kitchens. Garbage All garbage and recycling accumulated by Guiding groups must be removed from the camp. Littering Littering is unsightly! Before leaving camp, pick up ALL litter at your camp site. Security Gate Keep the gate closed at ALL times, while at camp. Discuss with other groups who will be responsible for ensuring the gate is locked during the nighttime hours. Ensure that the gate is locked at the end of camp (check with other sites as to who is leaving last) Doors & Windows Keep ALL exterior doors closed at ALL times to keep rodents and insects from entering the premises, as well as to prevent the wind from damaging door hinges. Confirm that ALL doors and windows are locked at the end of camp. List of supplies to bring for camp Bleach, Rubber Gloves Biodegradable Dish Soap, dish cloths/j cloths Paper Towels Hand sanitizer Toilet paper (preferably 1-ply, maximum 2-ply) Matches (waterproof recommended) Pot Holders Oven Cleaner & SOS pads if you plan to use the ovens All-purpose cleaning wipes (or well squeezed cloths of cleaner & water) to wipe bunk mattresses Floor cleaner (Mr. Clean / Pine-sol recommended for Centennial, Pallesen, Namiyi floors (dilute solution) Swiffer wet or dry cloths (optional) Mirror cleaner (vinegar & water) Toilet cleaner (environmentally friendly, green product is recommended) Garbage bags (large leaf size fits the cans best) Sticky tack for hanging posters, etc. Use push pins only on bulletin boards Table Cloths if doing crafts 9V Batteries for smoke detectors, Additional needs for Tent Sites, Rabbit and Stan s Cottage Three AA batteries for CO detectors Used pantyhose and clothespins for Liquid Disposal Pit bucket and J-cloths for Liquid Disposal Pit (LDP) Campers must bring their own Mess kits if tenting. (Legal Land Description W1/2, Sec 34, TP 25, R4, W5M) TO REACH CAMP: Access from the South: From the junction of Hwy 1 and Hwy 22, travel north on Hwy 22 to the town of Cochrane. At the bottom of the hill, at a set of lights at George Fox trail, turn right onto the gravel lane. Access from the North: From the junction of Hwy 1A and Hwy 22 in the town of Cochrane, travel 2 km south on Hwy 22. The entrance is on the South East side of the bridge, across from George Fox Trail; turn left onto the gravel lane. Remember the Speed Limit is 15 km/h; your children are on site!! 10 JUBILEE: Residential CHECKLIST Please help us keep Camp Jubilee clean and tidy for the next campers, by completing the following tasks when arriving and before leaving the campsite. Note ANY REPAIRS NEEDED on the Campsite Use Form. Electronically submit or form to Borrowed Equipment Fridge / Freezers Stoves / Microwave Cupboards Thermostats/ Breakers Vacuum Floors Tables / Chairs Bunks / Mattresses Bathrooms / Lats Doors / Windows Garbage LDP (Stan s & Rabbit) Lights Fire Pits/Wood stove Barbecue Shelter (Centennial) Picnic Tables Breakages / Repairs Fire Extinguisher Any equipment / furniture / picnic tables borrowed from another site cleaned and returned to its original location. Cleaned with hot, soapy water. Turned to the lowest setting (NOT OFF) Wiped with hot, soapy water. Fan screens, hood, oven and oven racks cleaned. Stove and fan(s) turned off. All food removed. Shelves & food bins wiped down (lids on bins). All dishes put away. Pots stored upside down. Thermostat(s) set to 15 o c when leaving (None in Rabbit). Blue breakers for the electric heaters in Rabbit are turned off. All rugs and hallway carpets vacuumed, then rolled and stored (as found). Empty vacuum if no vacuflow. All floors swept and washed with a dilute solution of hot water and cleaner. (1 capful Mr. Clean or Pine-sol / bucket). Mops washed and hanging to dry. Tables and chairs cleaned with hot, soapy water. All tables folded and leaning against walls. Chairs restacked. Mattresses lifted and cleaned with all-purpose cleaner (or all-purpose cleaning wipes). All garbage under the mattresses and bunks removed. All bathrooms and lats thoroughly cleaned, including the toilet and cupboards. All personal items, trash, toilet paper and paper bags removed. All taps shut off. All outside doors locked and latched before leaving camp. All windows and curtains closed. All litter, including newspaper, picked up inside and outside. All garbage / trash taken home. J-cloth removed from LDP and screen scrubbed. All indoor and outdoor lights, including yard light off when leaving. Fires are stirred with water and out. Partially burned wood / warm ashes in the fire circle. Firewood replenished. Remove all cardboard / paper. Ash removed from woodstoves Propane tanks shut off. Burners & griddles cleaned. Barbecue cool and in shelter. Floor swept, picnic table and benches clean and returned to original location. Fireplace swept. Picnic tables clean and returned to their original location. Rake underneath. No food scraps / craft supplies / trash underneath tables. Report ASAP on Maintenance form (bulletin board) and Campsite Use Form and submit to facilitybooking@calgarygirlguides.com If used, Deliver to Guide Centre immediately and/or report ASAP on Campsite Use Form and submit to facilitybooking@calgarygirlguides.com REMINDERS Shoes: Wear indoor slippers/shoes inside the buildings at all times. Bunk Rooms: No food, drinks or craft activities are allowed in the bunk area. Doors: Keep ALL doors to the outside closed Security Gate : Keep closed at all times. Lock the gate each evening and when leaving the campsite. Camp Fires/Fire Pits: Keep fires small to prevent grass fires and save on firewood. Fire Wood: Firewood is stored in the woodshed. Tables and chairs cleaned with hot, soapy water. All tables folded and leaning against walls. Chairs restacked. All lats thoroughly cleaned and swept out. All trash, toilet paper and paper bags removed. All outside doors locked and latched before leaving camp. All windows and curtains closed. All litter, including newspaper, picked up inside and outside. All garbage / trash taken home. J-cloth removed from LDP and screen scrubbed. All indoor and outdoor lights off when leaving.
