4 OUR PEOPLE & PARTNERS A tea of sustainability experts at the CCCA works in partnership with other local networks including Business Iproveent Districts (Caden Town Unliited, BEE London, Euston Town, Fitzrovia Partnership), the Knowledge Quarter, and business forus (Kings Cross Estate Environent Foru and Urban Partners for King s Cross, Euston and St Pancras). Caden Council currently provides core funding for the CCCA, however since 2016 the CCCA has expanded its consultancy services offer and introduced a new preiu ebership package with a view to becoing financially independent fro the Council. This is in addition to our free ebership offer. Our Board The CCCA is overseen by an Advisory Board coprising eber organisations. The Advisory Board ensures the needs of the business counity are continually et and leads the strategic developent of the CCCA. I a a board eber as I want, together with y peers, to assist and steer Caden to tackle cliate change in the Borough. CCCA ebership will help your organisation learn, easure and anage its carbon footprint. Many organisations want to do the right thing, but find the task daunting. With the help of CCCA, this need not be the case. 5 FOREWORD The last year has been an exciting tie for the Caden Cliate Change Alliance (CCCA) as it transitions towards a new odel of funding. The CCCA ebership as well as the services it delivers has continued to grow as we support organisations to becoe ore sustainable and reduce energy consuption, waste and carbon eissions. With Caden being hoe to the second highest nuber of businesses in London and the fourth highest in the UK, supporting environentally sustainable econoic growth is all the ore iportant. Councillor Meric Apak Cabinet Meber for Sustainability & Environent Our approach to sustainability in supporting businesses in the borough through the CCCA ensures we are able to respond to business needs, assisting the to achieve their carbon reduction targets and sustainability objectives. Through our engageent prograe we are able to ensure Caden continues to thrive for businesses and as a sustainable counity. Undertaking visits to ebers recently I was ipressed by the fantastic work being done locally. The CCCA not only assists in working towards the borough-wide eissions reductions target of 40% by 2020 but provides an avenue for challenges such as iproving air quality to be addressed which I have ade a top priority for Caden. This Annual Report provides detail on soe of the successes in 2016 which I hope you find inspiring for the year ahead as we work together for a better Caden. CCCA 2016 ANNUAL REPORT 5
6 STATEMENT FROM THE CHAIR The CCCA has continued its success in recruiting and assisting its ebers to becoe ore energy efficient and to reduce their ipact on the environent. In 2016, this success has led to an ipressive 27% borough wide reduction in coercial and industrial eissions since 2008 and 67% of ebers who provided the data have seen a reduction in their eissions copared to a year earlier. These reductions are all against a backdrop of increasing population and business growth in the borough which is no ean feat. Stephen McKinnell Chair of the CCCA Advisory Board & Head of Energy Manageent, SOAS, University of London There are still any challenges out there as we strive to eet our 40% reduction target by 2020 not least that of obtaining good quality data by which we can easure our perforance. This is one of any areas where the CCCA can provide assistance to ebers and I would urge you to look out for and attend the various workshops that the CCCA run throughout the year which are packed with useful advice on this and any other helpful topics to get you on the right track. Thanks again to all our ebers for their contribution over the last 12 onths. It s not always easy working in our own organisations to reduce eissions but the encourageent and support is out there aongst our ebers and I would encourage anyone who is not yet signed up to coe and join our counity to work collectively to help ake Caden the greenest and ost sustainable borough in the country. 6 CCCA 2016 ANNUAL REPORT
7 OUR MEMBERSHIP GROWTH The CCCA has two types of ebership Basic and Preiu. Basic ebership provides free point of use services including the online Made Easy guides, access to CCCA workshops and the CCCA electronic bulletin. Our ebership consists of a range of organisation sizes, fro the icro to international copanies and spans a nuber of different sectors. Read ore about the experience of our preiu ebers in the following case studies. 8 MEMBER ACHIEVEMENTS IN 2016 Carbon reduction reporting Since we were established in 2008 the CCCA has seen an increase in the nuber of ebers and subsequently the proportion of coercial and industrial eissions reported in the borough of Caden. Mebers report direct eissions fro heating and use of fuel in facilities and assets that the copany owns (scope 1) and energy consuption (scope 2) for two benefits: 1. Accountability Annual reporting acts as a catalyst for organisations to becoe accountable for their direct eissions, which leads to action to anage and reduce the. 2. Addressing challenges The CCCA is able to extrapolate eber data and identify trends and challenges that organisations face in anaging eissions. There has been a 27% reduction in borough-wide coercial and industrial eissions since 2008, in the sae period the population of Caden has increased by 11.67%. With the localised Gross Value Added estiate also increasing by 35% since 2008 this shows the econoic growth in the borough alongside the reduction in carbon dioxide eissions is possible. 1 This is reflected in the year on year reporting of the CCCA where 67% of ebers saw a reduction in their carbon footprint in 2016 copared to Business and Eployent Bulletin 2 This includes only those ebers that reported in 2014/15 and 2015/16 CCCA Mebers High Speed 1 receive their Mark of Achieveent. 8 CCCA 2016 ANNUAL REPORT
9 Recognising success The CCCAs Marks of Achieveent certification schee recognises the environental progress ade by our ebers.
