To schedule an appointment, communityed@islandhospital.org or call Madrona Grove Sculpture Exhibition Call for Entries - The Anacortes Arts Commission announces the third annual outdoor sculpture exhibition in the park-like setting of the madrona grove and surrounding area of the Depot Arts Center (611 R Avenue) in downtown Anacortes. The eight-month exhibition will feature twelve sculptures selected through an open juried competition. Sculptures must be durable enough to withstand outdoor conditions and they should have means of being secured to a platform. Artists are responsible for delivery and pickup of their work. Artists will each receive a $250 stipend to help defray costs of transporting work to and from the site. The City of Anacortes, Parks and Recreation will provide platforms to secure the sculptures to and provide machinery for moving and placing of the sculptures. All sculptures should be for sale. 66 Clamdigger Kitchen Shrimp in Remoulade Sauce Honey baked shrimp 1 pound jumbo shrimp (thawed) 1/2 tablespoon reduced-sodium soy sauce 1 1/2 tablespoons pepper sauce 2 cups finely crushed corn flakes 1 1/2 teaspoons grated orange zest 1/2 cup honey In a medium bowl, mix all ingredients, except the corn flakes and honey, and stir thoroughly. Put the mixture in a large zip-lock bag, add the shrimp and put the bag in the refrigerator for two to four hours to marinate. Put the corn flakes in a wide shallow bowl and the honey in a small separate bowl. Dip the marinated shrimp in the honey, then roll them in the corn flakes for an even coating. Place them in a baking pan or on a sheet and bake them at 425 degrees until crisp and slightly brown. Heavily flocked. A real tree covered with thick, white goopy stuff. Welcome to the future. Nearly 60 years later, nostalgia in white, silver and flocked trees has come full circle, out of garage sales and back into the living room. According to the Wall Street Journal, this is likely due to Instagram and social media where, if you want to display your favorite colorful ornaments, nothing shows them off as well as a white tree. In some ways, the white trees are a backlash against the all-natural trend in design, food, clothing and life in general, says the Journal.
