Vice Chairman Curtis Jeanis.Member Members Absent: None Staff Present: Kelvin Knauf, Director of Planning & Community Development Wendy Lloyd, Planning Secretary City Council Members Present: Annette Pernell Chairman Meadows called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. REGULAR BUSINESS - APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES Chairman Meadows asked for a motion to approve the April 25, 2018 special call meeting minutes Member Jeanis motioned Vice Chairman Perry 2 nd Vote: 3-0 Motion Carries OLD BUSINESS None NEW BUSINESS a. Consider an application for a Certificate of Appropriateness from Leaza Greenroad-Ford to construct a new storage building located at 1106 W. Cherry Avenue. Mr. Knauf stated he has the plans in front of them and it is a pretty good sized storage building and it will be located behind the house and there is a site plan there with the plans and so it is mainly going to be hidden from the street. 2

3 Page 2 of 2 Vice Chairman Perry stated it is just a regular storage building tin building. Mr. Knauf stated no it s not tin, it is wood frame. Chairman Meadows asked about brick. Mr. Knauf stated it is siding with brick accent. Vice Chairman Perry asked if she owned this house. Mr. Knauf stated yes. Mr. Knauf stated that the house itself takes up a majority of the lot in front and it s not going to be very visible from Cherry Street at all and the back side of lot is wooded and hard to see. Chairman Meadows asked if there was an alley. Mr. Knauf stated no. Vice Chairman Perry asked what she was going to put in it. Mr. Knauf stated it is just storage with a little workshop and the loft has additional storage. Vice Chairman Perry asked if she was going to take the shed to the side down. Mr. Knauf stated he thinks it stays. Chairman Meadows motioned to approve Vice chairman Perry 2 nd Vote: 3 0 Motion Carries Member Jeanis motioned to adjourn Vice Chairman Perry 2 nd Chairman Meadows adjourned the meeting at 3:09 p.m. 3

4 MEMORANDUM To: From: Subject: Historic Preservation Commission Members Kelvin Knauf, Director of Planning and Community Development Consider an application for a Certificate of Appropriateness from Jerome Mallett to repair the structure located at 1306 W. Cherry Avenue Date: May 24, 2018 Attached for your consideration is an application for a Certificate of Appropriateness from Jerome Mallett to repair the primary structure located at 1306 W. Cherry Avenue. On August 8, 2017 the Commission considered a request from URS Corporation to demolish the primary house and the smaller house on the property with the intention of having a hurricane house constructed on the property. However, the grant funds for hurricane houses ran out before one could be built at 1306 W. Cherry Avenue. The owner, Jerome Mallet, has torn down the primary house and wants to repair and restore the smaller house on the property. To do so, he is requesting to repair or replace six windows, repair the home porch, repair the electrical system and re-paint the house. Pictures of the house are included in your agenda packet. 4

This structure has been left open to vagrants and vermin and is substandard. Currently, the property is vacant and partially boarded up. There are no historical markers for the property but it does lie within the Old Orange Historic District. Pictures of the property are included jn your agenda packet. 8
