1 Miata Magic June 2016 Volume 27 Number 6 POOL PARTY/BBQ/DINNER/GAMES NIGHT AT JIM AND NORM S, SATURDAY, JUNE 18, 2016 Please arrive anytime after 1:00 PM. Bring a dish to share for the evening meal which will be 6 PM, followed by games night and fellowship. Bring your bathing suits and towels. The pool, hot tub, & horseshoe pit are available for afternoon activities, as well as evening games night. You are welcome to come and go at your convenience during this event, but make sure you do come, as it is one of the best, fun-filled events of the year. Any questions call Jim at or Norm at Directions to 1637 De La Vega Street Palm Bay. Take I-95 to Malabar Road (SR 514) - Exit 173. Go east about 1/2 mile to Babcock Street (SR 507). Turn right (south) on Babcock for 3 miles to Bolanos Street (just after Espejo Street). Turn right on Bolanos. Make an immediate left onto West Side Ave. Go two blocks. Turn right onto De La Vega. Park across the street.

3 WHAT A NIGHT!!! Bunnie & Ray Dow outdid themselves. Saturday, May 21, 24 SCMC members, 10 Miata's & 2 OTM's (other than Miata) followed Bunnie & Ray to Petrillo's Italian Restaurant in Indialantic, for a wonderful meal. Once the group was well fed, the journey continued to Paradise Beach to await the Full Moon rising. Due to some low clouds, the moon was not sighted until it was above those clouds, but the first sighting was as if the moon was hatching out of the clouds. A slight sea breeze had turned the evening cooler, so the tops went down and the rest of the journey was "topless" as we made our way to Del's Freez, Melbourne, for a great ice cream experience. 5 SCMC Trip to Daytona Speedway for Miata Racing - 5/8/16 Twelve members, 6 Miatas and 1 OTM (other than Miata), met our host, Bill Seals, at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant in Titusville to guide us on a one hour trip north to the Daytona Speedway. We were met at the Speedway by Bill s friend, Ralph Tiro, who arranged for us to get a VIP tour of the racetrack and facilities. Ralph also gave an overview of the day s racing program. They allowed us to view more than 35 modified Miatas gathered at the pre-race area. We got up close to the cars and talked with the drivers. Danny Statter, a SCMC member, was also racing his black and green Miata, #18.

6 Friday, May 6, was a beautiful, cool, perfect, top down weather day. Art & Priscilla Caira led 13 cars, 11 Miata's and 2 OTM's (other than Miata's) south through Melbourne Beach, down A1A and Sebastian Inlet, over the Indian River, back to the mainland, to Indian River Dr., to Mel Fisher's Treasure's Museum. After watching a 20 minute film, Mel Fisher's grandson gave us a guided tour, explaining the history of Mel Fisher, and his crew s adventures diving for lost treasures. As his grandson told the stories of the amazing finds and the years of search and ingenuity it took to finally find the "mother load", we toured the museum to see just a sample of the rewards of many years of hard work and dedication. Very impressive! Afterward we drove a few minutes to Capt'n Butcher's Riverside Restaurant where we all had a delicious lunch. Thank you Art & Priscilla, for a delightful, educational, and fun-filled drive out.

7 Tail of the Dragon, Deal s GAP 2016 Highlights from Norm LaCroix: Ralph Goodwin came down from MA and met us in Townsend TN. We were there only 3 days, but had a great time, as always. Met up with Bill Titley & the OHIO Miata folks, as well as the 3 members from SCMC. With our presence, the last 3 days, it brought the SCMC attendance up to 6. Highlights from Vicki & Ed Hill: Great weather greeted the members of the North Coast, Northwest Miata Clubs of Ohio and the Space Coast Miata Club. Space Coast and North Coast member, Bill Titley, had planned a week full of great rides through the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee. Monday began with a ride on the Tail of the Dragon to Deals Gap. Tuesday started with breakfast at Elvira's Café followed by a ride through the beautiful Tennessee countryside, a ride on the Cherohala Skyway, with a stop at the beautiful Bald River Falls, and returning via Deals Gap. Wednesday was the Blue Ridge Parkway. Thursday's ride was a new ride this year to the Devil's Triangle near the city of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Those that chose to go the Gap route, met up with Space Coast members Jim and Norm, along with SCMC member, Ralph Goodwin, who currently resides in Massachusetts. Friday began with one last ride through the Gap. Dinner arrangements, on our final night, were at Elvira's Cafe, a special place for our last night. Saturday we said our goodbyes until next year, and made our way back home. We want to thank Bill and Rancie Titley for a wonderful trip. Looking forward to next year's trip and meeting up with members of the Ohio Miata clubs. Highlights from Mike McClain: Bill and Rancie Titley organized the overall event and each day's activities of driving eating, and pit stops. We ran the Dragon each day which was exhilarating. The best day was travelling to the Devil's Triangle west of Oak Ridge. It has sheer drop offs, degree hairpin turns, with steep elevation, and nice chicanes for 44 miles. We then went to the Oak Ridge Science Museum and learned about the role that the area played in developing the atomic bomb. The day was capped off with a great Dragon run. Each day was around 200 miles of driving pleasure on twisty, treecanopied, mountain roads, alongside bubbling rivers and waterfalls. The pit stops were timely and the food and camaraderie excellent.

Thanks to Art Caira for this contribution Thanks to Bunnie Dow for this helpful hint to get your headlights clean Supplies: A tube of toothpaste (Not Gel) preferably with an abrasive substance( baking soda) An old toothbrush Soft cloth Spray bottle of warm H2O Paste wax Rub a couple of layers of toothpaste, vigorously, onto lens. Scrub with dampened toothbrush. Wipe with cloth. Spray with warm H2O and wipe until clear. When polished enough, seal with a coat of wax.
