1 Mission Trail Mustangs is a car club formed in 1999 by Mustang and Ford enthusiasts who share a common interest in Mustangs of all Vintages and other significant Ford Motor Company products. We invite the owners of Mustangs, Shelby s, Cobras, Fair Lanes, Torino s, Galaxies, Cougars, Falcons, Comets, Broncos and all other Ford marques to come to one of our meetings and join in the camaraderie and good fellowship. Our club is interested in providing a fun and participative environment for owners to make new friends, learn new things and generally share their love of the Blue Oval breed. Page 1

5 Just For Fun! Looks of Disappointment A man was just waking up from anesthesia after surgery, and his wife was sitting by his side. His eyes fluttered open and he said, 'You're beautiful.' Then he fell asleep again. His wife had never heard him say that before, so she stayed by his side. A few minutes later his eyes fluttered open and he said, 'You're cute.. 8 Just Sharing from Bill and Diane Davis The lowly old Ford Falcon automobile still does not get much respect even though all of you Mustang fans out there owe it a tremendous debt of gratitude. You see, without the Ford Falcon, there would have NEVER been the Ford Mustang as you have known it. Back in the day, Ford management was so concerned that Chevy was going to overtake Ford with its Corvair and Chevy II cars, Lee Iacocca ordered Ford stylist/engineers to come up with a sporty, fun car that the masses could afford, ASAP. In less than 16 months, Ford engineers managed to figure out how to re-skin the Falcon and created the /2 Ford Mustang. The rest is history, so to speak. To this day, people will still see a well maintained 1964 to 1965 Ford FALCON automobile and comment that it has a really nice Mustang interior in it. Contraire, contraire, those beautiful looking, highly sought after, and collectible /2 through 1965 Mustangs actually had a FALCON interior right down to the knobs on the dash, etc. There were some little fine tuning steps later taken to quickly separate the highly successful Mustang from those old lowly Falcon work cars and vehicles that only poor people drove. So here is your chance to pay proper respect where it is definitely due. The Falcon Club of America is holding its 2017 National Convention right here in Sacramento at the Lions s Gate Hotel and Conference Center (formerly McClellan AFB now known as McClellan Park) July 12 to 15. Here is their website for further details/info: BTW: I have been to (2) two of these events and you will be amazed at the vehicles on display. I ve been told that some of the members from the East Coast are trailering their vehicles out here this year to participate in the National Championship competition for the respective vehicle classes. The 2017 Falcon Club of America convention was held July 12-15, 2017 at the Lions Gate Hotel & Conference Center in Sacramento, CA. It will be hosted by the Sonoma County Falcons for Fun and River City Chapters with assistance from other Pacific Region Chapters. Wait we re not done! Page 8

9 The lowly old Ford Falcon automobile still does not get much respect The Ford Falcon was produced in the USA from 1960 to From Phillip & Donna Marie (in response to Bill s ): Over the past 41 years I ve lived in Terre Haute, Indiana, I've seen many remarkable local nature photographs; however, this very rare photo of a Falcon nesting in an old tree is perhaps the most remarkable nature shot I've ever seen. It s most-definitely not every day that you have the opportunity to see such a photo; it s really a once-in-a-lifetime type of photo. The person who took the photo wishes to remain anonymous (for obvious reasons). S/he just happened to be meandering in the woods just south of the city one day and all of a sudden came upon the nesting Falcon. Remaining as quiet as possible so as not to frighten it, s/he took out a cellphone or camera and quickly snapped this amazing photo. From Bill: Yes, like I said, the lowly old Falcon does not get any respect. Since my first , these are the kind of responses I have been receiving. LOL, LOL!! But I ll bet the next time you see a /2 through early 1966 Mustang, you will think about what I said about the very nice interiors in the Mustangs and fact they were reskinned FALCONS. 11 From the Events Coordinator Cathy Duprey I hope you are all having a GREAT summer! We started our July Club activities out with participating in the 4 th of July Parade in Fremont. Once again an outstanding event. This is a huge event with thousands of spectators. We all meet at the Target shopping center about 8:45 am, then caravanned over to the Fremont Library staging site where we decorated our cars, enjoyed coffee and pastries from Panera, and hung out until it was our turn to join the parade route. Once queued up in the parade, attendees lined both sides of the parade route. The parade was about a block longer this year than in previous years. It was a beautiful morning and everyone who participated had a wonderful time. After the Parade, many MTM members had family obligations, and went on to their families for 4 th of July activities. However, there where also several MTM members and their families that gathered at our house for an afternoon of Barbecuing hot dogs and hamburgers, swimming in the pool, having a few cocktails and just enjoying the afternoon. The Livermore fireworks display started at 9:20, for those that stayed and enjoyed the spectacular display where not disappointed. It was amazing. One more page! Page 11

Vic s has been a great location for this monthly activity and one of the events that is very well attended. 15 From The MTM Kitchen Thank You Cathy! August 2017 Recipe: Artichoke Nibbles: Cathy Duprey This is a Great Appetizer recipe, can be served hot or cold and you can make it ahead. 2 Jars (6 oz) marinated artichoke hearts 1 small onion chopped 1 clove garlic, minced 4 eggs ¼ cup dried breadcrumbs ¼ tsp. salt ¼ tsp. pepper 1/8 tsp. oregano 1/8 tsp. Tabasco ½ lb. grated cheddar cheese (2 cups) 2 TB minced parsley (or 2 TB. Parsley flakes) Drain marinate from one jar of artichokes into a frying pan. Drain the other char and discard the marinade. Chop artichokes and set aside. Add chopped onion to frying pan and sauté for about 5 minutes do not brown. In bowl beat eggs with wire whip. Add crumbs, salt, pepper, oregano, & Tabasco. Mix well. Stir in cheese, parsley, artichokes and sautéed onion. Turn into greased 7x11-baking dish. Bake 30 minutes, or until inserted knife comes out clean. Page 15
