LOOKING AHEAD VVTE Calendar DATE CLUB & INVITATION EVENTS CONTACT Sept 29th, 30th, Oct 1st BOONAH weekend Spencer November 4th Toowoomba/Highfields run Hedley & Barb from the President Well here we are with another AGM meeting under our belt and this meeting was well attended with not much change in the committee, so you all have 12 months to consider nominating for a position next year, as a few have been in one position or another for a long time and would like a holiday. Thanks to Bud & Brittney for organising the day for us with breakfast in a very pretty setting and then having our meeting as well. Thanks go to Brittney s Aunty for allowing us the use of their garden. Then we went on to Grandchester Model Live Steam trains where our BIG KIDS enjoyed some rides while others just watched and talked. Good Stuff. Boonah weekend planning is almost finished and is going to be a relaxing weekend, so I hope your Vintage car is well serviced. Thanks go to Graham for organising our last run which was different again to what we usually do. Enjoyable day was had by members. Spencer Yarrow President VVTE from the Editor The cover pic looks suspiciously like we all just headed to the Bottle O, but Graham really did take us on a drive! For those going on the Boonah run, further info is in this issue. Following on from that is the run planned for the 4th November, details of which are yet to be finalised. I'm sure we'll hear about that soon enough. The last run saw the Dearling Buick, which is running sweetly, and the Cox Whippet joined us too. It will be heading south to the Bay to Birdwood, and towing a camper trailer for the trip. We trust they have a safe journey, and look forward to hearing about it on their return. 3 Gatton to Withcott - Graham Allum With rain overnight and showers around daybreak, I was a little worried about the attendance. I had 8 confirmed cars attending but felt this could be a bit hopeful given the weather. We arrived early, in the Lincoln, only to find one couple already at the Stagecoach café at the Gatton Cultural centre! Even as I confirmed our attendance more started to arrive! Many took the opportunity to have the buffet breakfast and many great stories spread around the tables. At departure time the table for20 had overflowed to two more tables! The run was to the Withcott Hotel, but we did not go straight there. First we headed out along the Gatton Helidon road, but in Grantham we turned off to go under the train line then follow the back road into Helidon. Once in Helidon we recrossed the train line then proceeded under the highway before rejoining the highway at the western end of the Gatton Bypass. Because of the Second Range Crossing works we had only a short drive before entering the 60 zone through these works. Once through these we had a short stint before turning off at the old Tomato Land site to wind our way through the housing estate there which brought us to the Withcott Hotel from the North. The Hotel had provided us with a twenty seat layout but again we overflowed due to our increased numbers. The meeting went off smoothly then we were back into tall tales and true from our recent past. It was heartening to have so many vintage turn out on a day that was great, but had started damp. Correspondence In: - Membership forms, Renewals. Office of Fair Trading. Correspondence Out: Office of Fair Trading with Club Cheque. Reports President: Report will be in the Magazine. Treasurer: Elaine moved, seconded by Peter, Carried, A couple of members dues are due, Treasurer is waiting. Books match Bank Statement. Editor: Likes minutes and articles in by 12 days after the meetings, for assembly of the magazine Any new members? Nil. Web Master: Web up and running well, Google wants to start charging for using their maps, Webmaster keeps Site updated, there is now a V.V.T E. Calendar & Club Forms on the site. Keep photos coming for Peter to add to the V.V.T.E. site. Dating Officers: Jeff has had no dates, also Graham has had no car dates. General Business: September/October 3 day Run, at Boonah, Looks like it is going to be a great success, many members are attending. The run is progressing well. Secretary and President each had phone call from a chap on the Gold Coast, wanting to sell a 6volt Klaxon horn, he thinks it is worth 100 s of dollars. Coming runs: Secretary to follow up on the Prenzlau Pride & Music Show at Lowood, it was held on Saturday 21 st April 2018, Could be a club run next year. TBA. Graham A is planning a run for March/April, Keep watching this space. Graham A is going to check out with the 2 nd Toowoomba Range Crossing Opening, to see if the Club can run our vehicles on that day. Coming events: Betty has checked out a site for the Three Wise men, and our Club XMAS Dinner, it was agreed to hold the two events together on the same date. The date is on Sunday December 23 rd, at Laidley Hotel, the one in the centre of town, there will be parking at the rear (reserved area for the old cars), it will be a buffet lunch approx. $12 to $15 a head. Members attending have to let Betty know, (14 days before the day, 9 th Dec). Arrive 12 noon. Betty will need numbers, and a cut-off date is the 9 th Dec. Next meeting will be on the 4 th November, Barbara and Headley will do the run, will be up in the Highfields area, with some sightseeing. More details to come later. Meeting closed: 11:29 AM. 5 Boonah Weekend - Sat.29th, Sun.30th Sept & Mon.1st Oct Meet at Henry Lawson Bicentennial Park - Karrabin Rosewood Rd, Walloon at 9.30 am with a BYO morning tea, to head to Mt Alford for lunch at the pub. Probably have pizza for tea. Sunday we will visit the camel farm at Harrisville and have morning tea there at your own expense. They do have a tour if you want to do it, but it is $22.00 per person (a little expensive) or you can buy a bag of feed at $2.00 and go to the fence and feed them. Lunch is sandwich and cake ($10.00 per person) with you buying your own drink (cold or hot) at a little cafe in Harrisville. Tea will be at a Pub in Boonah and they will put us in a room out the back, as this is grand final night footy. The Motel do not do breakfast, so you will have to supply your own or go up to one of the cafes. There is a toaster, microwave and bar fridge in your room. Any problems ring Spencer Music anyone???? 12 Chicken and vegetable bolognaise - a twist on the traditional - from the Heart Foundation 1 tablespoon olive oil 3 garlic cloves, crushed 1 large onion, finely diced 2 medium carrots, coarsely grated 1 large zucchini, coarsely grated or sliced 500g lean chicken mince 400g can no added salt diced tomatoes - if you buy the diced tomatoes with basil & oregano you won't need to add dried leaves 1 tablespoon dried oregano leaves 3/4 cup salt reduced chicken stock White pepper, to taste 250g linguine(spaghetti or spiral noodles work just as well) cooked and drained 2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese use vegetables of your choosing Method 1. Heat olive oil in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Add garlic, onion, carrot and zucchini and cook, stirring often, for 5 minutes. Transfer to a bowl, set aside. 2. Add the chicken mince to the pan and cook for 5 minutes or until browned, breaking up any lumps with a spoon. 3. Return vegetable mixture to the pan, along with tomatoes, oregano and chicken stock. Simmer for 10 minutes. 4. Season with white pepper. Divide the linguine between plates, spoon over the sauce and top with parmesan to serve. tales tall & true Graham believes if he pats that mascot, the car will go faster. 13 There was a man who worked for the Post Office whose job was to process all the mail that had illegible addresses. One day, a letter came addressed in a shaky handwriting to God. He thought he should open it to see what it was about. The letter read Dear God, I am an 83 year old widow, living on a very small pension. Yesterday someone stole my purse. It had $100 in it, which was all the money I had until my next pension payment. Next Sunday is Christmas, and I had invited two of my friends over for dinner. Without that money, I have nothing to buy food with, have no family to turn to, and you are my only hope... Can you please help me? Sincerely, Edna The postal worker was touched. He showed the letter to all the other workers. Each one dug into his or her wallet and came up with a few dollars. By the time he made the rounds, he had collected $96, which they put into an envelope and sent to the woman. The rest of the day, all the workers felt a warm glow thinking of Edna and the dinner she would be able to share with her friends. Christmas came and went. A few days later, another letter came from the same old lady to God. All the workers gathered around while the letter was opened. It read: Dear God, How can I ever thank you enough for what you did for me? Because of your gift of love, I was able to fix a glorious dinner for my friends. We had a very nice day and I told my friends of your wonderful gift. By the way, there was $4 missing. I think it might have been those bastards at the post office.
