6 TIM S TECH TIME AND RAMBLIN S HELLO AGAIN Another exciting month at the little corvair shop in Memphis NY Finished up the 64 Blue turbo convertible motor rebuild, with super results. It now runs great, and really goes good. It will now go to the nationals in Illinois for the concourse. My main goal for this month (maybe even today) is getting the White Lakewood registered. It has been a severe trial of my patience at the Motor Vehicle Dept counter.it is a very hard thing to register a car with NO paperwork from previous owners. First time in, they said to get it weighed with a good reciept noting the car. So I get it towed over to the huge scrap yard in Solvay. They stopped large trucks waiting to cross the scales, had me pull on the scales and get out of the car. Then I backed it off and hooked it back up to the tow truck. You should have seen the cluster of people looking the car over!, lucky it did not cause an accident. That yard is extremely busy with large hopper trucks coming in with scrap metal items for recycling. When I went back to motor vehicles with all the papers in hand, stood in line another hour, got to the window, the lady looked at it all, went to the manager, came back with you need to fill out these 2 forms and have them signed by the guy you bought it from. You can only imagine how I felt about that! So today I will try again, and if it does not work, you may be able to see the fireworks where ever you are! We were very busy last weekend with the annual Amatuer Radio Field day weekend. I consists of going to a site at a specified hour, setting up transceivers station, antennas, generators, getting on the air by 2 PM (Saturday), seeing how many other stations you can contact in 24 hours, and compiling the scores. This is a large international event. It runs 24 hours, so a few get VERY tired putting this on. It was a lot of fun, and part of it is to show new Hams how to operate a station. One of the main reasons for this event, is to get as many hams prepared in case of rear emercency situations, such as floods, earthquakes, or other disaters. Example here is many public service events, such as St Patricks day parade, corporate challenge race, and many others. The last huge use of Amatuer radio was during the big Ice storm north of us. Only communications between relief centers, Emergency management in Albany, and Fire /Rescue crews was amateur radio Enough on that, our next event of fun and cars will be at Fairhaven NY July 2. Once again, I suggest EARLY arrival to get a decent parking spot! This is another busy show, which benefits the area fire dept, and they sure make good use of the funds. Another event you may want to see, is the Model T group will be in central NY around the 20th of July. They expect to be at DB s in Weedsport for a cruise in (with entertainment) Wednesday night the 20th. We plan on being there with the truck. There is a lot about this tour on the model T website. also look at : I put the poster on page 2 It is really a rare treat to see so many OLD cars in action. Also a note to our friends to the west, the route brings them to Palmyra, and other areas. Be sure to look at the websites! My next project is a new cover and frame for the Rampside to replace the one destroyed by the waste oil spill last fall. The frame is constructed, waiting for me to sand it and put a preservative varnish on it. This one is made from expensive Oak, and looks great. Too bad it will be hidden under a new canvass (soon I hope). That s it for now, see you all at Fairhaven. Be sure to have a safe, fun holiday! Regards, from Tim at the little shop in Memphis NY DON T FORGET TO VISIT OFTEN! Thanks to Jim Smith, webmaster PAGE 6
