January Gold Wing Touring Ass. Az F-Troop Bugle Chapter Directors Comments by Jim and Cheri Krylowicz Happy 2013 It s hard to believe another year has come and gone. To start things off let me say Thank You to Bill and JoAnn for their help this year, Waco for safety, Bernie for being my assistant, Gary and Coleen, Bob, and Jacque. They have all done a great job. When I was down they stepped up and did a great job. Thanks again to all. Since no one has stepped up and stated they would like to be Chapter Director I will be willing to do it again. That will be the first order of business at the meeting on the 19 th I m still having a few problems mostly my weight is still dropping and the only reason is the taste of the food is making me sick. I have a few foods I eat but still looking for more. They tell me the taste is from the dialysis and I just need to get used to it but I don t see that happening soon. The triple A is healing well and the pain is gone. Thank goodness no more pain pills. I am still using a cane for balance so not riding yet I am getting along. As far as the Cancer goes we are waiting a little longer because of my kidneys shutting down to run the test. We will be looking for some new staff members this month since we lost several folks. We need a Treasurer, safety coordinator, and an assistant director. All staff positions require you have an active membership. If you are interested in any of these or any others, please let me know Again this year I am going to ask for volunteers to help the chapter and bringing in new members to expand our ranks. It takes a lot of help to put on some of the activities we do and we are glad to have all the help we get from everyone. We also need new rides suggested, and club activities. Your ideas are always welcome. We all hear the complaint that we always do the same things so let s get some input so we have new things this year as far as rides and activities are concerned. We will still be doing our Mothers and Fathers Day get togethers, our bowling afternoon, and we need to keep our dinners because these are all loads of fun. Again we will be looking for your input to fill our meet up schedule. Let me know if you would like anything added so we can keep the Fun in F Troop.

Letter From Region Steve & Ralphine Andrus Page 2 Merry, Merry Christmas Regions A & B, The Ops Team Meeting in Montana went very well. Many of your comments were expressed and discussed during the meeting and were taken into serious consideration. Below please find a condensed format of some of the news to share with you. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us with them. TOURING NEWS Touring News is going green and we re totally debt free! What you say? Here s a brief history: About three years ago, TA was in debt of about $72,000, most of which was due to Gerald Printing for TN. Please remember this debt began prior to Bruce Keenon stepping in as Executive Director. As of about a month ago, the TN debt was down to $11,300. Through some wheeling & dealing, Bruce offered to Gerald Printing $5,000 and asked them if they would forgive the remainder of the debt and Gerald Printing agreed. This is indeed wonderful news and the many thanks go out to all members in helping to get this lingering debt paid offand behind us! TN Cover Picture Contest GWTA is having a contest for the future covers of TN, issues February through December This is open to all TA members. Pictures must be in high resolution taken by a digital camera without editing. Please include in the photo who, where, your name and TA membership number. When you the picture to Touring News@gwtaco.com[/url], please put Cover Picture Contest in the subject line. They will be judged and chosen on the 11th of each month. If your picture is within the due date and not chosen as a cover winner, it will be used during the year. Prizes for each month s Cover winner include: One (1) year s membership, non-transferable, added to your existing membership or one TA t-shirt from available inventory for lifetime members. Editor Glenda Boggess has also requested each region please turn in articles during three months of the year. Region A & B is due March 12th (for April s issue), May 12th (for June s issue) and September 12th (for October s issue). So if you have an article (no matter the length) and pictures (no matter how many) please get them in by the dates listed above. We want the rest of the organization to know what sort of fun we have out here on the Western half of the country! Remember, we as members can have a say as to what the internal makeup this online magazine can be by what we put into it sooo your input is greatly appreciated. No more need to complain about not having enough news about your state/region when you have this opportunity to improve it by bragging about your chapter's activities. NAME AND/OR ADDRESS CHANGES If you have any changes in your name, address, phone number and/or , please just don t mail it to National or the webmaster but to ALL three s below: webmaster@gwta.org gwtaoffice@gwta.org touring_news@gwtaco.com NATIONAL TICKETS How are you doing on ticket sales? Don t forget to send us any and all ticket stubs and matching funds on a monthly basis; no need to sit on them and wait until you have compiled an even 100 to be able to send them.

Page 3 Region Letter (con t) FACEBOOK Spread the word GWTA is now on Facebook. Check us out at REGION SPECIAL PROGRAM Don t forget, we are offering to all new, old and/or expired members the $50 per year membership. All the person(s) need to do is to contact us directly. We are hoping that if there is enough of a positive response to this program, it will be continued long after the end of the year. FAMILY OF THE YEAR Do you have a family or even just that one person in your chapter that is a cut above the rest and deserving of this award? If so, have your chapter honor them by nominating them as your chapter representative and then forward the person/family s name to your State Director. If you don t have a State Director, forward their name(s) to us and a biography as to why they were selected no later than April 30, Prior to the end of May 2013, the secret committee will select a person or family, to represent Region A and one to represent Region B, who will then be forwarded to National and will be up for the running of National Family of the Year at Gold Rush. GOLD RUSH Big Sky, Montana is absolutely gorgeous and has some beautiful riding roads! Get your registration in if you haven t done so already. We ve also attached the lodging rates again should you decide to stay on site. This year s theme is Riding High in Big Sky. We re bringing back the 60s so if you still have em, bring your tie dye shirt or hippie outfits. Welcome Dinner Due to limited seating, the Sunday night welcome dinner can only host 350 attendees so make sure you get your dinner reservations in as soon as possible. Also, if you have a special dietary need i.e. vegetarian, please note that on your reservation as well. There will be lots of sessions and activities throughout the week. FYI, we will be in charge of the First Timers session (those who are brand new to GWTA and/or first time at Gold Rush). Since last year s GR dance was successful, we re having another one Wednesday evening. Come listen and/or dance to the tunes of the 60s. The Regional Meetings will take place Thursday morning. As Bruce Keenon will be dropping in during these meetings, this would be a great opportunity for you to speak to him directly. At each Gold Rush, two Regions are asked to sell tickets for one full day. Region A & B will be selling tickets all day Monday and we need volunteers to assist Steve & me for 2-hour time frames. This is also a great opportunity to get to roam around the whole place and introduce yourself to someone new. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. In closing, we want to express our sincere appreciation to all of you for your continuing support not just of GWTA but to us as Region Directors for your continued help so that e can help YOUR Region. We wish you and your family a blessed and very Merry Christmas and a Healthy and Happy New Year. Yours in Friendship, Steve & Ralphine Andrus

Page 4 Shooters for Charity 2012 By Richard Callihan Shooters for Shoot Off III were on the line again, 16 Dec. at Ted s Shooting Range in Queen Creek. Our first time to use Ted s Range and they were very accommodating. The range was ours for two hours prior to their normal opening for a Sunday morning with coffee ready and donuts provided by an Ftroop member. Sixteen shooters: Jack, Bernie, Sallie/John, Sarge, Bob, Chuck/Trent (Chuck s son), Deanna, George/Jacque, Gary D, Gary S, Bill, Tom and Richard. Monitors for the scoring and safety management were Bill, Bob, Gary D. and Richard. Everyone arrived on time in a Yule Tide spirit. Donuts were devoured and the alibis were coming fast and strong just in case a shooter was going to need a covering excuse for shooting poorly. First four on the line were Tom, Bernie, Jack and Gary S. with the four monitors closing out the last shots at the targets. As you can deduct from the shooters list, we had 13 men and 3 women. Without giving up to much information I can say that the women held their own in the pecking order. The shooting sequence was Slow Fire 50, Tightest Group 50, Bull s-eye 50, Rapid Fire 25 and Poker Hand 75. Poker Hand was interesting. The target had 52 cards and a ½ logo designated to serve as a Joker. It was hard to see the cards at 75 and some nut decided we would be shooting at the back of the target. Each shooter was allowed to fire seven rounds to play with five for best hand. Interesting those shooters had an opportunity to draw 7 cards and yet not one shooter hit the back of a big piece of paper more than five times. The poker hand was a bonus round, $2.00/shooter, high hand take all. First place combined fire award? Second place combined fire award? Last place combined fire award? Tightest group bragging rights? Bull s-eye bragging rights? Poker Hand $32.00 winner? Guess you ll just have to show up at the F Troop Jan 2013 meeting to find out. Was Shoot Off III a success? YES!! Thanks to Sarge for throwing in a few more bucks, Blankets for Kids will receive $ from the F Troop shooters. Not bad for having an enjoyable Sunday morning.

Rider Education Page 5. Lessons Applied By Howard Wakko Crowe Typed by Christina Crowe Rider education would be completely useless unless applied in our everyday riding. The simple lesson of doing consistent mirror checks was my survival tool today, the first day of At approximately 12:20pm, I was southbound on the Loop 101 Price freeway just south of the Loop 202 Red Mountain freeway, riding in the left lane when I noticed a grey Infinity G35 put on its hazard lights and pull to the shoulder of the HOV lane. Assuming the vehicle was having mechanical difficulties, I continued on my commute to work. A few miles later, while doing one of my safety mirror checks at Broadway and the 101, I noticed the same Infinity coming up behind me at a high rate of speed (I was doing 80 MPH at the time and judging by the car s closing speed, I would estimate the speed of the Infinity at 130 MPH). Upon noticing the vehicle s extreme closing speed, I continued monitoring my mirrors closely. Within approximately a mile of reaching the US 60 interchange I rechecked my mirrors and noticed the Infinity (approximately 100 yards) behind me and still closing fast. Without warning I saw tire smoke coming from all four (4) tires. Just for information s sake, the Infinity G35 is equipped with traction control, ABS and other electronic aides that should not have allowed this vehicle to do what occurred. The vehicle quickly veered to the left disappearing from my view due to the tire smoke then spun sideways. I turned sideways in the seat and witnessed the vehicle shooting to the right side of the freeway where it impacted with the curb/desert landscaping of the freeway causing the vehicle to flip in an uncontrollable fashion of landing on its roof then going airborne a minimum of 5 times before coming to a rest. While I wanted to stop to help out those in need, it was unsafe for me to do so without putting myself or others in danger while others behind the accident scene did stop. I continued on with the knowledge that I had seen a DPS motorcycle officer about a mile north of the accident scene at University DR and with today s technology most people have cell phones. I assumed that in the time it would take me to circle back to the accident scene legally and safely, that emergency responders would be enroute and I would be a hindrance. I am not sure if the accident was caused by driver error or mechanical failure, I can only hope all those involved in the accident survive, as I wish no ill will to the innocent. I also hope that those behind the accident scene are able to deal with what they witnessed, as I am sure their view of things were horrific as they saw parts flying from the vehicle while saying their prayers for their own safety. This is the author s personal thoughts. I, at age 38, have gone thru multiple driving school courses, obtained both a CDL and an amateur racing license and have proudly served as F- Troop s Rider Educator. I can tell you with my short years of wisdom that what you may see as boring rider training has saved my life more than once. If I leave you with anything on this, my last safety newsletter, the basics of rider education will serve you well throughout your riding career. Ride Safe!
