Lake Erie Chapter #3738 October 2013 Vol 4 Issue 9 Sponsored By: Lake Erie Harley Davidson Chester Avon Ohio Director s Chair Mike Cotrufo Inside this issue: Director s Chair 1 Hogwash Director s Chair October is upon us and the riding season is close to an end for This year has been an exciting one, with the 30 th Anniversary of HOG and the 110 th Anniversary of Harley-Davidson! Can anyone give me a WOW? In the next few weeks and months, your Lake Erie HOG Chapter Officers will be planning your 2014 riding season. Keep in mind, we ask for your suggestions in advance of the ride calendar, so that everyone can have their favorite ride and destination. Matt Cser, your Head Road Captain, will be soliciting for your choices. Please make sure that you place your ride choice on our HOG website. Even though October starts off warm and ends, usually, cold and wet, many of you still like to hit the open road. I know that I do. That said, make sure that you look for patches of ice as you ride into the evening and keep an eye out for leaves as they cover the roadways. If you have any questions or concerns on how to handle your bike in these conditions, ask John Gudin, your HOG Safety Officer, or Nick Halpin, your HOG Co-Safety Officer. They have years of experience in handling those situations and can give you some tips on avoiding an accident. Ringo Says 2 Activities 3 Membership 3 LOH 4 5 Safety Officer 4 Oct Nov Activities 5 Minutes 6 7 Volunteers 8 Road Captain 8 Birthdays 10 Officers 10 The Ladies of Harley are still looking for additional entries in the LOH Craft Show on November 23, 2013, at the Amvets Hall in Elyria. Connie Heitkamp, your LOH Officer, can be reached at loh.lehog@gmail.com. If you have an interest in offering up your handmade items or selling your wares, send Connie an or, if you see her at the dealership, just ask for information. She s been an exemplary LOH leader this year and would

Page 2 Director cont. be happy to assist you. Our HOG Chapter has eclipsed 300 members and we re growing! Jason Eustace, your HOG Membership Officer, reminds you that, in order to stay as a LEHD HOG Member, your National Membership has to be maintained. I renew mine every December; this keeps everything updated. Make sure that you tend to your memberships, LEHD and National, as well. That s it for now, so as I always close the Hogwash, let me know what I can do to make your membership experience better. me, stop me in the dealership whenever you see me and I will do my best for you! We are the best Chapter in the country! Anyhow, be cool, ride safe and I ll see you soon Mike Cotrufo Ringo Says - Ron Long HI Everyone, For some of you, riding season is winding down. For the rest of us,it s just getting better. The weather is pretty good for this time of year. You just have to watch the road conditions. A little oil here and there can make for a very long and expensive winter. The dealership is very proud of all the work that we have done over the past year. Everyone did a great job representing your chapter. I would like to thank each and everyone of the volunteers for such a great time all year. We had a great time meeting new members and making new friends. Remember, we still have some rides still on the calendar. Keep checking the website for all the information. Some of the benefits of being a HOG member is meeting new riding buddies. Also, some of the benefits that you might not know about are the Best Western Rewards card, the AT & Wireless, The Harley-Davidson Museum, and the Harley-Davidson Deck at Miller Park. If you want to know more about these benefits, check your 2013 HOG Adventure Guide. If anyone has any questions, please let me know. I will try an get you an answer as soon as I can. As always Ride Safe and Have Fun. Ron ringo Long

Page 3 Activities - Carolyn Liggett Activities Officer... Hard to believe it's October!!!! Where did the time go? Well, as I plan for the Fall and Winter Events, I just want to remind all of you and let new members be aware of a few simple things... If the event is for the chapter or dealership, we ask you to sign up on line or at a meeting, Please, Please, Please, sign up that way. If you don't or cant make it for any reason, at least we will have you accounted in the food and for counts on other "things" as well. I check my "sign up on line" at 7 am prior to going so your not left out! Please only sign up for yourself and spouse or associate. Don't sign for your friends unless your all on the same page and all coming! Please don't assume they will come! Please support your Chapter and wear your Chapter Pins, Rockers and Apparel or "OUR" Dealership Apparel! Out of State and other Countries are welcome too. If you need either a chapter pins, rockers or shirts see Jason, Mari or myself, we will get you set up! Please Promote US and Lake Erie Harley Davidson!. Now on Parking...please if you come to any event especially the ones for the dealership and your a Volunteer, park all bikes up front along the outer perimeter of the lot. If your in a car please park behind dealership unless there is a Riders Edge class then all cars MUST go in fenced area behind pet clinic. If it is an event and you are bringing stuff, you can unload your car at the door if needed then kindly move to the designated parking areas Membership Jason Eustace Hello, everyone. It's October and that means it's early renewal time. Everyone that renews their local membership between now and December 5th will be entered into a drawing for some Lake Erie H.D. gift cards. All local memberships will expire December 31st. My goal is to have everybody renewed by March. It's been a great year so far and we need to keep it great. We've grown to 300 members and I'd like to keep growing. Stay safe out there and have fun. Ride Safe! Jason

Page 4 Safety Officer Nick Halpin We are coming to the end of the riding season. The Mileage program ended on Oct 5th so the list will soon be out. Lake Erie Harley has provided a CPR/First Aid class to the Road Captains in the Chapter. The class size is limited to 9 people but there will be multiple classes. The cost is $35 per person. An blast went out to the Road Captains notifying them of the class. It is time to start thinking about next years ride list. Let the Head Road Captain know of rides you would like top see. Watch the Calendar and Chapter meetings for info on Group riding classes. Even if you have been riding for years it is possible to learn from this class about being safe on the roads. Hope to see you all at the next meeting Keep on Riding Nick Ladies of Harley Connie Heitkamp BE YOURSELF.. IT S YOUR TIME TO RIDE!!! Being a Ladies of Harley has a special meaning for every Lady of Harley. We have new LOH members this year and I am proud to have them belong to our Lake Erie H.O.G. Chapter. We are all here for many reasons: the camaraderie, building friendships, learning to ride in the Riders Edge Class, participating in our many chapter events, our short and long road trips the list goes on. Our Ladies of Harley members have successfully worked together and put together events such as Lake Erie Ladies Weekender this past May, a fundraiser and ride for the Elyria YWCA Women and Children s Shelter, and, of course, our upcoming Craft Show being held on Saturday November 23 rd. We have new lady riders amongst our group and we are so proud of their accomplishment, as well as Lady Road Captains. I would love to see more sisters riding! Sometimes you find yourself in the middle of nowhere, and sometimes in the middle of nowhere you find yourself. Learning to ride is not only about freedom, but so much more. The Riders Edge Class, the motorcycle license, the experience helps you conquer fear and know a freedom you ve never thought you could know. It gives you the ability to reach beyond yourself and discover people and places you never thought you would know, and experience a serenity and joy that you couldn t have previously imagined. Harley-Davidson, the Riders Edge Class, and the amazing people you meet along the way help you find the most free, independent, and amazing version of yourself and for that, you will be eternally grateful. Dream Big. Live Free. Ride Hard. I can t ride enough and when the sun is shining, and my girlfriends are calling to go for a ride, I can t focus on anything other than "I SHOULD BE RIDING! But no matter where my life has taken me, my Harley is always there to make me smile!!! I tell anyone who asks that the reason behind my comfort (and respect) for riding a motorcycle, especially my Street Glide, is because of my Bike Evolution. Don't get ahead of yourself... take the time to

And then when ready... fulfill your dream! You may wonder would or could I ever be a Harley rider myself? Your husband, boyfriend, family or friends encourage you and say, "you'll never know, unless you do it!" Get your permit, take the Riders Edge Class (a must!) and pass! You don't have to be a big strong person, but you do need to have the determination and the knowledge. Be careful and mindful when you ride. With every ride comes a new learning experience and confidence booster! The 2013 riding season still has some beautiful riding months left. The changing color of the leaves is one awesome sight.. whether you re riding your own bike or better yet, a passenger on the back! Think about what you d like to add to your Bucket List in Whether it s being a passenger on the back of a bike, whether it s getting your motorcycle license, whether it s buying a motorcycle, whether it s expanding your riding skills and taking the Rider s Edge Skilled Riders Course, or planning trips close by or across a couple of states,. let s get together. I m here to mentor, along with fellow Ladies of Harley members. If anyone has any questions, suggestions, or you just want to share a story or two, I m at the dealership quite often, or you can me. Our Ladies of Harley members work hard, and make every effort to welcome everyone into our chapter! Ride safe, keep smiling, stay warm, layer your riding gear, and enjoy Connie Heitkamp, Ladies of Harley Officer
