1 Vol 33 No 02 February 2016 January brings a New Year for the British Car Club of Prez Sez Charleston with lots of good things in store for the By Wray Lemke club. As Richie hands off the reins of the club to me, on behalf of the whole club, I d like to express our gratitude for the leadership and hard work he s selflessly given to make sure things were fun and interesting and ran well. His epic labor on our British Car Day show was evident in the success of the show and we appreciate how hard he worked at that. Dennis has handed over the role of membership coordinator to Don Kelly and the Windscreen to Dave Rosato. Dennis has been the glue that holds so many parts of the club together for so many years, we can never thank him enough for his hard work and dedication. Bruce Stemerman is taking the task of treasurer and we re fortunate to have someone of his skill to manage that aspect of the club s business. And how can we thank Jane Schmidtt enough for her hard work arranging and managing the club events and dates. The club had too many wonderful events to list, thanks to Jane s hard work. Those events were great and the reason they were great is because she put so much thought into each one. Michael Rains is taking over that formidable task but he has a gift for it and has already shown his enthusiasm in the events he s planned for the club. Mert Fox has again reupped to handle the secretary duties so the club is in good hands in that department. Millie Horton will continue to make sure we have lots of BCCC regalia and club swag to wear. Millie s Tom will continue to provide the amazing history tours that were so talked about. Last, but certainly not least, we are quite fortunate to have Diane Lambert s organizational skills, experience and good humor keeping things fettled as Vice President. In addition to taking on the publishing of the Windscreen, Dave has done a great job of building a completely new website which will be much easier to use and provide more content and information on current events. This year will be a combination of different events and meeting places and lots of opportunity to enjoy our cars and fellowship in the most beautiful city in the nation. Our goal is to have fun and to provide something for all the members of the club, whether it s a club drive, a tech session, picnic or an outing. So, come on and join us, we re here to have good times with our cars and our friends. Wray

3 The Windscreen Page 03 Our Social Media By Dave Rosato There are a lot of changes for the new year, one of which is me becoming the editor of The Windscreen. So far I m enjoying the task. If you attend a BCCC event or even another British car event, please take photos and write up a summary and send it to me for inclusion in The Windscreen. At the last BCCC meeting I discussed the website with Wray. He said that it wasn t easy to add to so I decided to look into it. He gave me admin privileges which allowed me to see how it was constructed. I wholeheartedly agreed with him, it was not an easy site to modify and add to. I have been doing my own business and personal websites since the early 90s. So I decided to recreate the website using the WYSIWYG web building software that I use. In only a couple days I recreated most of the site. My feeling is that having a website that is easy to modify and add to will result in a website that viewers will get more out of and will use more often. I added a Google Calendar to the site. Anyone who we share the BCCC Google Calendar with can add and edit events right from their personal computer. Sooo easy! You can download past Windscreens and there are pages of past and upcoming events. So, much of what will be going into The Windscreen will go into the website as well. There is also a mobile site. The website detects your screen resolution and reverts to a special website designed for smaller screens. It is a limited site but will be more usable on a cell phone or tablet. The buttons and text are bigger and there aren t any tiered menus, see the picture below. At the time of this writing, the new website is still being tested and evaluated by the members of the club. This past September Debby Marindin created a Facebook group for the club. So far there are 43 followers. If you follow Facebook and haven t signed up, search for the British Car Club of Charleston and put in a request to become a member. It is a closed group so only members can see the postings. Facebook is a great way to keep up with the day-to-day happenings. Anyone can post notices, events, updates and photos. On the negative side, if you don t look at it frequently then you may miss some postings, unless you scroll down a bit. But the nice feature is that you will get a notification when there is a new posting. Lynn and I are both techies so we rarely miss anything on Facebook. So we have The Windscreen, Facebook and the website to provide us all with the latest news of the club. The Facebook page takes care of itself and gets better with more postings from the members. I will keep the website updated with input from the members. Michael Rains will manage the website calendar. Please let me know if you have any comments or suggestions for the website. I look forward to getting input from the members for The Windscreen and website content. The BCCC Mobile website The new BCCC website Google Calendar Clicking on map opens Google Maps

4 The Windscreen Page 03 Minutes BCCC January 13th, 2015 By Diane Lambert Vice President Kicking off 2016 in great style, the BCCC met Saturday, January 13 th for lunch at Sticky Fingers in Mt. Pleasant with 24 members in attendance. New Board Members were introduced and thanked in advance for the services they will provide this year. Among them was our new President, Wray Lemke, VP, Diane Lambert, Treasurer, Bruce Stemerman, Secretary, Mert Fox, Membership Coordinator, Don Kelly, Regalia Sales, Millie Horton, Editor, Dave Rosato and Events Coordinator, Michael Rains. Richie Hartley and Jane Schmitt were thanked for their many years of BCCC leadership, and agreed to provide assistance during the transition. Mert Fox and Bruce Stemerman were thanked for agreeing to serve another term, and Wray was thanked for stepping up to the President s position. It was decided that our annual British Car Day needed a Coordinator so Diane Lambert was asked to take on that responsibility and accepted. Diane stated that she would be calling on many of our members to assist with this task to make the event a success. Michael Rains, reviewed several upcoming events and stated that they will be on the calendar for all to include in our personal planners. Greenville Cars and Coffee By Mike West I attended the Greenville Cars and Coffee 30th JAN and it was so much larger than anything we have around the Charleston area. Between four and five hundred beautifully turned out cars were there and about five British cars in the mix...about the same number of Brit cars as our Cars and Coffee. Corvettes seemed to dominate the venue, followed by BMWs, but there was a Jag 150 of the finest style and a two-door estate wagon Austin Mini about one half again the length of the usual Mini. Nice looking, but may have been a custom body. I don't recall ever seeing or hearing of such a long car! Maybe our Mini drivers have heard of such a car. After the Cars and Coffee we went to Benson Alfa Romeo and Fiat dealership to stare at Maserati's and the newest Alfa, which looks like the Batmobile! Right there in Benson's showroom was a TR6 in great shape for $30K! Hope it sells for that much! Any Brit car selling well increases the value of our cars! It was a perfect day for the venue in Greenville but there were so many great cars that a person could not take them all in! Oh, I also learned there is a classic car dealership recently opened in North Charleston. "Car Guys of Charleston" is at 4980 Appian way North Charleston Bob Payne is the owner/manager. I plan to (very reluctantly) leave off my Aston Martin DB7 with him. See you this coming weekend at the Mount Pleasant Cars and Coffee!!

5 The Windscreen Page 04 The Revs Institute By Dave Rosato If you are ever in the Naples Florida area you will have to visit The Revs Institute. You have to make reservations, so plan ahead. Below are just some of the British cars. There are over 100 cars ranging from 1896 to I especially loved the place because you weren t behind ropes. You can walk right up to the car and look at the fantastic details. If you love Porsches then you will love all their race cars. There are more pictures throughout The Windscreen. 10 The Windscreen Page 09 English Royalty Chocolate Chip Scones Recipe of the Month By Lynn Rosato Ingredients: 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour 1/3 cup white sugar 2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, chilled and cubed 1/2 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips 3 tablespoons orange juice Directions: Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray or use parchment paper. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. With a pastry blender or a large fork, cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the chocolate chips. Mix in the orange juice to form a dough. Turn out the dough on a floured surface. Pat or roll into a 9 inch circle about 1/2 inch thick. With a 2 1/2 inch fluted biscuit cutter, cut out 12 scones, pushing the dough scraps together for the last few, if necessary. Transfer the scones to the baking sheet. Bake in preheated oven until golden brown, about 12 minutes. Move to wire racks to cool. Recipe Courtesy allrecipes.com 1995 McLaren F1 12 cylinder 6064cc developing 627bhp at 7400rpm
