1 LibraryJul/Aug Tidings Summer Reading Program Ends Aug 9! from the desk of the Director: The next time you are in need of information remember that we provide access to a wealth of online databases that cover a wide variety of subjects. These include thousands of summaries and full-text articles from magazines, newspapers, and professional journals that you can t find for free anywhere else on the Internet. On our home page there is a Research tab with a drop-down menu that includes a link to Databases. From that page you will find links to databases with subjects that vary from auto and small engine repair to health resources, biography, business, personal investment, languages, and career and consumer information. For example, a lot of us rely on Consumer Reports for current ratings on consumer goods such as cars, tires, washing machines, mattresses, computers, cameras, TVs, lawnmowers, vacuum cleaners, baby monitors, etc. This information and much more is readily accessible to you from home or work or inside the library with a computer and a library card! Tom Birch Friends 40th Annual Book Sale Join thousands of bargain book hunters at the Friends of the Bay County Libraries 40th Annual Book Sale! Book lovers from across Michigan and even from out-of-state are expected to shop the sale, which is one of the largest in Michigan. The tens of thousands of items offered, such as former best sellers, special interest, children s materials, reference sources, magazines, records, CDs, books on tape, DVDs and more, come from either the library s retired collection or from donations made by generous citizens. Shop Thursday, July 31 through Saturday, August 2 in the air conditioned comfort of the Bay County Civic Arena, 4231 Shrestha Dr. in Bay City. You can enter near either Bay Lanes on N. Euclid or Gordon s Food Service on Wilder Rd. This year s hours are Thursday from 8 am to 8 pm, Friday from 10 am to 8 pm, and Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm. Material prices will remain at last year s low prices: Thursday hard covers will sell for $2.00 and paperbacks for $1.00, Friday prices will drop to $1.00 for hardcover and $0.50 paperback, children s books will be $.50 both days and audiovisual items such as CDs, DVDs, books on tape and more will also be priced to move. During the Saturday clearance, everything goes for $3.00 per box or bag! Summer Reading Program ends August 9 All proceeds from the book sale are used by the Friends to buy equipment, materials and services for the public not made possible through the library system s operating budget. The Bay County Library System serves approximately 107,000 residents through four branch locations in Bay City, Pinconning and Auburn, and a Bookmobile. Earnings from former book sales have supplied video players and funded such projects as children s reading programs, library publications, visits by children s authors, and community meeting room furniture. Volunteers are needed to help with all aspects of the sale!
