Pleading to felony evading and driving without insurance after a sheriff s department s pursuit on Tennessee State Representative Jimmy Matlock on Thursday announced he would be seeking the congressional House post of longtime U.S. Representative Jimmy Duncan, who is retiring at the end of his current term and will not seek re-election next year. We had the best time! Every year we take the family and head to Coldwater, Michigan to visit with my best friend Kris and her family. They own a beautiful lake cottage there and the kids love it. There is a slide in a very cool man-made pond that is extremely clean and warm. In this pond he can touch the bottom and isn't scared to slide right off into it and make a huge splash. I loved seeing the freedom he had and the shear joy in his face when he hit the water. He isn't a swimmer and a water slide with a pool that he can touch the bottom is a rare thing around here. He took full advantage and I can't say that I blame him. The blast caused two floors of the Christian private school to drop into a sub-basement, officials said. After fighting Republicans for years on the GOP s plan to repeal and replace Obamacare, defending it, touting it, praising it, Democrats in Congress were reported on Wednesday as promoting a slew of proposals to Improve the Affordable Care Act before it imploded upon itself. The sudden scramble came to light earlier this week after Senate Republicans failed to pass a skinny repeal replacement last week. Newson was the third Trump selection for circuit judge, behind one district judge and Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch. From the world of the coming total solar eclipse, Travel Pulse on Thursday listed the top five cities in the nation to view the August 21 celestial event. These are cities lying in the direct path of the event, like Spring City, but are much bigger venues and include Portland, Oregon (seashore), Jackson Hole, Wyoming (Mother Nature), Lincoln, Nebraska (local eclipsethemed minor league baseball game), Tallulah Falls, Georgia (scenic mountains), and Greenville, South Carolina (restaurants, boutiques, expansive southern charm). And according to the National Center for Public Policy Research on Wednesday, the public electric company in Nashville that provides power to Al Gore s 10,070-square-foot mansion reported an inconvenient truth on Wednesday: the home of the former vice president and global warming Noah used 230,889-kilowatt hours of electricity during the past 12 months, or more than 21 times more carbon-based energy that the average U.S. household. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the average American house uses less than 11,000-kilowatt hours annually. Donaghy fined Davis $50 for the insurance violation. Donaghy sentenced Kala Leann Miller, 30, of Turkey Creek Road, Tellico Plains to three years suspended after 36 days, Miller pleading to aggravated burglary of a home sometime between April and June. A theft plea by Miller brought 11 months 29 days in jail, probation after 36 days, and for a disorderly conduct charge Miller pled to Donaghy ordered 30 days to serve. In other court action, Michael David Ferguson was set for trial on September 20 for initiation the process to manufacture methamphetamine, meth for resale, and possession of Schedule IV and VI drugs and unlawful drug paraphernalia. Aaron Heatherly, driving under the influence, open container, trial November 30. William Kinne, two counts of sale and delivery of Schedule II drugs, trial November 29. Tom Long, theft over $1,000, forgery, sentencing set for September 18. Joshua McCleary, violation of probation, or VOP, revoked to serve. Gary Moore, marijuana resale, trial January 17. Joseph Pliske, VOP, revoked to serve. Bradley Shepherd, statutory rape, trial October 12. Bags of Love as they re called, were recently delivered to CASA Monroe, a local organization that works through the juvenile court system and advocates for the best interest of abused and LOCALLY OWNED! neglected children. CASA plans to give the bags to children in cases who have had to move to a foster home or other location quickly or to children found in severe poverty and who are in need of basic items. The bags are wonderful, said CASA Monroe Executive Director Alisa Hobbs. They are large, pull-tie sacks that include a hand-tied quilt, stuffed animal, age appropriate toys and books and a special pocket with personal care items such as toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, comb, and more. These are things I know the children will love to get during a very difficult time in their lives. Janet Humphrey, who had the idea for the bags, was involved with a similar group in Jefferson County that made them for children in protective custody because their parents were using methamphetamines. She suggested making similar bags to a group of women who sewed at the Cora Veal Senior Center and several said Yes! There s such a need, said Humphrey. You just want to give back. Rinehart said he was conducting the shakedown for safety and security and while inspecting Burress bunk located a ground toothbrush handle with an attached pointed metal tip reinforced with string and plastic approximately six inches in length a shank. The item could be used as a weapon to inflict serious bodily injury, said Rinehart. Rinehart removed the shank, after which Burress admitted its ownership. Call Tips (Continued from pg 1) ter is excited about the large number of visitors expected to arrive in Sweetwater and Monroe County the weekend of August The total solar eclipse itself is the first of its kind in the area in over 100 years. It can only be viewed as a total eclipse in a 70-mile path cutting across North America and slicing straight through Monroe County. The longest the totality will last anywhere in the world is two minutes 40 seconds. Sweetwater has spots with two minutes 38 seconds of viewing. Therefore, whether the city hosts an eclipse event or not, there are people coming from all over the world to our area. We have made the decision to embrace this natural phenomenon and embrace these visitors. We hope you will help us extend the hand of hospitality. Most any question you have about the events we are planning surrounding the eclipse can be answered by visiting But there are a few important pieces of information we want to distribute to our hometown people in order to help you prepare. The eclipse will begin around 1:30 p.m. local time and end around 3:30 Page 7 - The BUZZ p.m. You must have proper eye protection to look at the eclipse during the partial phases. Only during the totality, which is only two minutes, 37 seconds in the middle of town, is it safe to look at the eclipse without ISO certified viewing glasses. These are available for purchase at various merchants in town and at city hall for $2 while supplies last. During totality, the sky will darken as if twilight. In the downtown area, SUB will help us keep the streetlights from activating to preserve the viewing experience. We ask all businesses and residents in the downtown to turn your lights off from 2:20 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. We are expecting thousands of visitors so we want to warn residents that you might not be able to move around town the weekend of the eclipse. We strongly recommend you pick up all necessities including medications and oxygen, emergency food and water supplies, and other necessities at least a week in advance. We do know that portions of Main Street and High Street will be closed to vehicular traffic as a route for emergency workers to reach the hospital. Anyone with open land needs to secure the property as best he or she can if people are not being allowed to park or camp on it. The map on our website shows available parking areas, but this is still a concern. Emergency and city services will be reserved during the weekend of the eclipse for life threatening emergencies. Our protocols may change so that non-injury wrecks would require drivers to exchange information and insurance without police response. Other city services the week of the eclipse will be interrupted as well. Garbage will be picked up as soon as trucks are able to get through. Finally if you have problems with mobility, heat sensitivity, aversions to crowds, or complicated medical conditions, we recommend you avoid the festival areas. City hall, street department, police, parks, and fire department personnel will be on duty but not in the office on Monday, August 21. Charged by Police Sergeant Chris Wilburn with felony fleeing, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, driving on suspended license, and criminal trespassing was Charles Forrest Martin of. According to Wiburn, Walmart officials spotted Martin in the building and called 911 to report a banned trespasser. Wilburn located Martin in a car leaving the property and when he attempted a stop at Bert s Hometown Grill, Martin goosed it and fled, heading through the Ingle s parking lot and scattering shoppers running for their lives. On Patterson Street and Isbill Road Martin accelerated and entering the parking of the Skyway Market the car dispelled more people who ran to escape being run over, Wilburn said. The chase continued to Highway 68 and County Farm Road and there Martin evaded the officers and disappeared. Later, Monroe County Sheriff s Narcotics Officers James Wall and Dennis Graham found the car behind a home on Gamble Road. Martin was not present.
