2 PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Goals: The owners simply wanted a functioning kitchen. A functioning kitchen that included connection to a meaningful rear entry, thoughtful and generous cabinet storage, direct traffic patterns, good lighting, working surface, updated appliances, entertaining space, display for a growing cookbook collection, seating in the kitchen and storage for the general household items. The design of the kitchen also had to honor this 1930 s Tudor home. Additionally, they want to remove the unused deck and create better access to the back yard. Challenges: Space simply need more space Connections to the rest of the home Wanting a full size refrigerator on an exterior wall while keeping it flush to the cabinet fronts Hiding exposed plumbing lines in the existing dinette closet Solutions: Ok, the first challenge to this space is to create more. Gone is the old, unused deck and in with a new addition with a crawlspace foundation and clean wall and roof transitions. With this, smooth ceilings lines were achieved with a flush beam to carry existing loading. Done, space is available. Now, a great L Shaped kitchen with a huge island brings in working surfaces, storage and room for upgraded appliances. The sink wall has deeper base cabinets. This allows for a little smoke and mirrors at the refrigerator. The deeper cabinet depth now provides room for that full size refrigerator on that exterior wall. The deeper cabinet also added space for kitchen faucet. We pulled out that upper cabinet a touch for the microwave and the deeper pantry with pull out shelves provides for great storage.

3 PROJECT DESCRIPTION: con$nued Look at that stove wall. Great high end stove with an exposed hood. We ve gone old school with the two pull out bread boards on each side of the stove. A small window allows you see people drive in from the back alley. Check out the island. That s a 4 wide top. It s great for large cooking or school projects. There are full size cabinets from the front side and then an additional 12 deep storage space in front of the knee space. This space provides storage for the owners step stool and pull out mixer as both accessed from the sides of the island. A new display cabinet provides a spot for the collection of colorful cookbooks, the house phone and closed storage for the dog s supplies. The kitchen has a newly expanded opening to the dining room, an exterior door leading directly to the new patio, a doorway to the rare but coveted space in these older homes a mudroom and a reclaimed door to the storage closet which houses the vacuum cleaner, brooms, mops, oversized and bulk supplies. Tying it all together is cool, crisp colors, smooth ceilings, lots of recessed cans, nickel plated pendant lights, under cabinet lights, tiled walls, farm sink, stained and enameled cabinets Kitchen with paneled ends, decorative brackets, utensil organizers, spice drawer inserts, tray dividers and pantry rollouts. The owners have now achieved that space that defines function with classic styling.
