3 President s Corner Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in. Author The April meeting is election night! There is no admission charge for the meeting; come show your support for those on the ballot and vote! I start my newsletter articles with quotes about volunteering. I spoke at many of the meetings about the need for volunteers to keep our organization going. I would like to announce that we have so many volunteers to run for the board that we have a contested election. Sadly we do not, and as I am writing this article we are in need of another director. I am truly saddened by this. I hear some members complain about the makeup of the board and some decisions made by the board and yet, they do not want to volunteer to be on the board. How many years will we continue as an organization if we can t get volunteers to be on the board, be a trip leader, host events or help at club functions? This month s thank-yous go to the volunteers who hosted events: Dave Weber for hosting the Cascade ski trip. It was great skiing...until the rain came! Dave Fowler, who led the last western trip of the season to Big Sky. Another snow successful trip! Our March Birthday hosts: Jonathan Rydz and Susan Harte started the celebrating at Jimmy s Grill & Iguana Bar. Happy Birthday to all the March birthday folks! The third annual Game Day was once again hosted by Tom and Jean Bronson. What a fun way to get together on a Sunday afternoon after ski season. On April 16, the board will be meeting together for the last time. It has been a true pleasure working with a great group of people who have worked together very hard to offer many opportunities to the membership. I appreciate all of the hard work and time the board put into this endeavor. Come to the End of the Year party on May 10 to celebrate the accomplishments of the year. I hope to see you out and about having fun, meeting people,w and spreading the good news of the Sitzmark Ski Club. 4 Membership Meeting/Board Election Friday, April 12 New Berlin Hills Golf Club s Clubhouse W. Graham St, New Berlin Admittance is FREE Guests are Welcome Election Ballots Will be at the Meeting Doors open at 6:00 pm 6:30 pm: Voting begins 6:30 8:00 pm: Drinks, light appetizers 8-8:30 pm - Meeting 8:30 PM - Voting Ends 8:30 pm - 11:00 pm - Socialize Audrey Wissmann, President Biographies of Members Running: Officers I have been a member of the Sitzmark Ski Club for almost 19 years. I enjoy skiing, motorcycle riding, going up north, studying parliamentary procedures, hanging out with my grandkids, going for walks, reading, and a lot more. I am retired but work part-time as a substitute teacher, I work at Ultimate Confections, and I do volunteer quilting. Because I am retired I have a little bit more freedom with my time to do things. Why run for the board? I have been on the board several times in a number of roles. I want to continue on another year as president because I feel that I have more to offer. I offer energy and enthusiasm to our meetings. I have always believed that if you are involved in an organization it is important to not just be a member but to volunteer to do what you can to help that organization succeed. A personal quote: Every month I begin my newsletter article with a quote about volunteering. One of my favorite ones was Volunteering is essential for any organization to exist. Tom Augustine, Vice-President Past Sitzmark Involvement: I have been a member since the mid-1990 s and served on the club s board in the past. My interests and activities include: downhill skiing, playing basketball, traveling the country periodically, weekends in Door County, fish fries, and Sitzmark club meetings. Why run for the Board? I have the time to volunteer and would like to give back to the club. A personal quote: Promoting new membership is everyone s job as it is vital to the club s continuing existence. That being said, it is just as important to retain all our current members by making all feel welcome at the club s events and providing a wide-variety of year-round social activities. Dawn Petermann-Harris, Treasurer I have been an active Sitzmark Ski Club member for more than 20 years and have served on the Board most recently as Vice President. I am always willing to help where needed and where I have talents. I served in the past as President, Vice President, Treasurer and several Director Positions. I enjoy skiing and have been a trip leader for Chamonix France, Sun Peaks, Alyeska,

5 Winter Park, Telluride and Switzerland ski trips. I enjoy socializing and have been a trip leader most recently for the summer picnic/corn roast in the park. Why run for the board? I strongly believe that those of us who have experience with the club need to bring in, encourage and mentor new volunteers as future trip leaders, directors and officers and I have enjoyed helping the club in this way. I have a depth of experience that helps in interacting with the board overall. I previously was on the board of a large national ski organization as treasurer and have worked with many diverse people. I am a CPA and work as a tax accountant for a regional bank. I am excited about running for Treasurer and helping in any way I can. I feel that my experience and enthusiasm will be an asset. A personal quote: I am proud to be an active member of this club and want to see it continue to grow and be successful. I have made lifelong friends; the rewards of Sitzmark are endless and the memories last a lifetime. James Huntz Schroeder, Secretary Member since September of Interests include - downhill skiing, cross country skiing, tennis, hiking, traveling, and many more. Why run for Secretary? The people of this club have been good to me, and a Secretary is needed for So, I feel this is the best way for me to give back to Sitzmark-Milwaukee at this time. Favorite quote: Wherever you are - be there! Marc Pettit Directors I have been a club member for over 50 years. My interests are skiing, golfing, fish fries, biking, and club meetings. Over the years I have held the office of President, Western Trips Director, Membership Director, and I am currently serving as the Promotions Director. Why run for the Board? This year I filled in as the replacement for the Promotions Director, I have enjoyed the position and am seeking reelection to a two-year term as the Promotions Director. My motto in leading or organizing club functions has always been no Sitzmark left behind. Rob Hermann I ve been a member for close to 10 years and have served in many roles including Secretary, Meetings & Entertainment, and Social Director. I look forward to serving the club as your Board Member. Dave Weber I have been skiing for nearly 60 years; yes that means leather boots and wood skis. Skiing has always been a big part of my life, I found that you meet the nicest people on skis. One of the joys of skiing for me is helping others discover ways to enjoy the sport more. That may be discovering a new way down a run, feedback on fundamentals or where the best bar on the hill is, it all leads to more fun. Why run for the Board? Looking forward to adding some fresh ideas to the local trips this year and meeting more new fun skiers My motto is, Never too old to learn.
