3 The President s Corner I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. June offered a number of activities for members to get out and enjoy themselves. I would like to give a big shout out and thanks to the hosts of the June events. Dave W. arranged the first Summer Picnic at Hoyt Park. We listened to the Brewers beat the Cubs at the Tailgate Party at Hoyt Park hosted by Sue R., Dennis S., Mike M. and Mark H. Rob H. is hosting the gatherings at the Traveling Beer Gardens. Another fun camping weekend was hosted by Laura H. This year the camp-out was held at Governor Dodge Park. Tom and Jean B. gave us a new festival to investigate: Garlic Fest, which featured all kinds of food and drink made garlic. The bloody Marys were quite strong, but good, Jean says. The festival also had art displays, live music, and normal wine and beer. Several people from the club showed up, and they all had a very nice time. They said it was, um, breathtaking! We have our weekly hosts of sporting events: Tuesday golf - Joie S., Wednesday night biking - George V. and Wednesday volleyball Jim R. Check the newsletter for more to do in July and August. Jean is doing a great job of sending out weekly eblasts keeping everyone informed. Contact Jean when you are ready to host your Sitzmark event. The Sitzmark board meets the third Tuesday of every month. That meeting is a work meeting where the board members help plan many of the events and ski trips that the membership is able to participate in and enjoy. We are looking for a secretary at this time. The meetings are approximately two hours and the secretary takes the minutes at meeting. If you are ready to help us out, please give me a call. Hope to see you out and about having fun, meeting people and spreading the good news of the Sitzmark Ski Club. 8 Governor Dodge State Park June 15 17, 2018 A Camp-out to Remember! Eleven hardy Sitzmarks ventured to Governor Dodge State Park June 15 17, The temperatures lived up to the forecast: in the 90s both days, and very humid. But we made the best of it. Sue and Ann were most proud to be the first ones to the group campsite on Friday, being completely set up and almost with beer in hand, when Laura and Matt arrived. Everyone arrived in time to have their tent set up before dark, with only Rob defying the small tent rule. He redeemed himself by setting up on the steepest section of the campsite. That evening we had lightning from a storm to the north. The frogs croaking loudly in full force, and turkeys and coyotes joining in later that night. This is definitely an earplug group campsite. Saturday was a typical lazy camp breakfast morning. Joyce, Steve, and Jonathan headed to the Wisconsin River for the paddle from Arena to Spring Green. Joyce was eaten alive while waiting for the boys to car shuttle; she should have launched her kayak as it was bug free on the river. They noted that the river was low and pretty dirty, perhaps from the rains the night before to the north. Sue, Ann, Matt and Laura set out to mountain bike the Mill Creek Trail, but the first hill was HUGE and with the temps being what they were, Ann decided to turn back. The rest of us made it, but as the trail was just grassy cross-country ski trails we did not try the other mountain bike loop. Instead we feasted on ice cream from the concession stand at Cox Hollow Lake which was oh, so tasty. Most of us relaxed the afternoon away at the beach, and the bikers met up with Carol, Joy and Rob. Helena checked out the beach at Twin Valley Lake until it got too crowded. We all reconnected back at the campsite for the Saturday night potluck, with tasty eats all around. Linda and Jeff joined us for another spirited game of Molkky, this time with an app. Matt, by a stroke of luck, won the first round, and Joyce won the second. Sunday, everyone was up pretty early and tents were taken down before the temps got too hot. I have been doing the June camping trip for the club since 2009, and this was the hottest trip to date. All in all, it was a good trip, and the group voted for the June 2019 trip to be at Hartman Creek SP near Waupaca, WI. I will do my best to reserve a spot and this will be a new location for this trip. Below is my tally for the June camping trips I have run for the club: Gov Dodge SP , 2011, 2018 Devils Lake SP , 2012, 2017 Wyalusing SP Black River Falls SF Wildcat Mtn SP Laura Kletti Herrick, Trip Leader
