1 St. Germain Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club Celebrating Snowmobiling Since 1969! Volume Number 4 November 2017 President s Message Tom Nampel In September I had the privilege of attending the International Snowmobile Hall of Fame induction of Don Schulpius. Don was the first President of the Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club. He also started Arrowhead Groomers here in St. Germain. It was very interesting to hear how Don and some others started putting a trail system together. When we get on today's trails we can go just about anywhere we want to. I really never gave it much thought about all the work that was done over 50 years ago to give us these trails. After hearing Don and a few others talk, I have a greater appreciation for all of the hard work they did. Don and his friends really had a vision for the future of snowmobiling. When we hit the well groomed trails we think that s the way it has always been. But the first trails were groomed by a snowmobile pulling a bed spring. Now we have tractors pulling groomers that flatten out the bumps, pull in snow and give us the perfect trails. Don was a real pioneer in the design and production of the groomer. Don and his wife Harriet will be our guests at our December 12th Membership Christmas Party at the Whitetail Inn. Don has a lot of interesting stories so please plan on attending. Tom Nampel Kevin & Deb Harvey (Harv s Vacation Rentals) recently went to the 2017 Milwaukee Snow Show at the State Fair Park in Milwaukee to promote snowmobiling in St. Germain. There were numerous compliments about our trails and the consensus was people couldn t wait to come to St. Germain and ride the best trails in the state! Apple Dumpling Kick-off Dinner for the Season Where: Clearview Supper Club When: Saturday, November 11th at 7 PM (cocktails at 6 PM) Menu Choices: Grilled Mahi Mahi with pineapple salsa w/quinoa/vegetable mix, 6 oz Bacon Wrapped Filet with baked potato and vegetable or Chicken Cordon Bleu and Rice. Note: All dinners are $20 and include salad, rolls, and coffee. Taxes and tips are included. If you require a vegetarian optian, please contact me. What to do: To reserve your dinner, please call or Bob Schell at (715) or rsschell@msn.com by Monday, November 6th. Call Bob you have any questions. (Members are responsible for the payment of their reservation whether they attend or not.) Who are the Apple Dumplings? The Apple Dumpling Gang is a group of good looking men (mostly retired, but a few are still working) who snowmobile together every Wednesday during the season. This is an informal group so there are no dues or duties. On Wednesdays they leave from the groomer barn at 9 AM sharp. All you have to do is show up. Socializing is usually available there starting at 8:15 AM. There is a contribution for each ride to cover the cost of the drinks and lunch for that day. The group also has a Kick-off dinner in November, a 3-day Overnighter Trip, a Potato Pancake Breakfast in mid-winter, and Brunch to end the season in March. Why not come ride with them?

Proceeds will be used for grooming expenses incurred throughout the year in maintaining our 100+ miles of Bo-Boen trails.
3 Trail Boss Jim Wendt The fall marches on toward our favorite season. Brushing is going on with our equipment as we get ready for the club brushing day on Saturday, October 21st. There will be a lot of cleanup for the hopefully large turnout. The board voted to replace our 2010 New Holland 6070 tractor with a new machine that will have the state of the art transmission which should make a difference in our fuel economy. As soon as we get confirmation of the height of the unit, we will move forward with the purchase. We will be having driver meetings in November and start training new drivers as we anticipate a December 12th trail opening for Vilas county. Let s hope that happens on schedule. Remember to get your memberships and trail passes in so you are ready to go when the bell rings. It won t be long now!!!!!!!!! The certificate must be carried while operating the snowmobile, and displayed to a law enforcement officer upon demand. You can also visit a Wisconsin DNR Service Center during their regular scheduled hours. For additional DNR Service Center hours and locations go to and click on the Contact US tab located at the top. The Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club s Snowmobile Safety Education Class will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, December 27 & 28, 2017 at the Community United Church of Christ just north of the groomer barn on Hwy 155 in the Fellowship Hall.
