What a month. With Cruisin The Coast, Hurricane Nate, and the Club Croquet Tournament, we have been busy. Long Beach Yacht Club has the BEST Volunteers. I want to personally thank all the members who volunteered their time to help with the October happenings. We could not have accomplished as much as we did without your assistance. Hurricane Nate interrupted our Crusin breakfast on Saturday and put us in a hurricane preparation mode. We were required by the Harbor Master to move all boats and trailers off the club property by 2 P.M. Sunday. This included all boat owners who were storing their boats on our property as well. Thanks to the generosity of Rear Commodore, Terri Oehmichen and her husband Mark, we were able to move all club boats and trailers to their property for storage. A BIG Thank You to Charlie and Patty Coleman for moving all the trailers, including disconnecting, moving, then reconnecting the Bath House. Thanks to Freddy and Ricky Welch for preparing all the boats for storage. Thanks to Ed Keefer, Erin Keefer, Joey Stokes, Jordan Previto, Grant Johnson, Jessica Candland, Sara Johnson and Laura Johnson for moving the boats. Hurricane Nate caused minor damage to the clubs downstairs area. The majority of the damage was to the pool. Several inches of sand and debris had to be suctioned out of the pool. Our resident pool expert, Terry Thomas, worked many hours cleaning up the pool with the help of a local pool company. My thanks to Terry for his continued care of our pool throughout the year. After the storm, many members responded to get our club back in operation. The storm surge was strong enough to scatter our picnic tables and move our bar several feet. Thanks to Patrick Holifield, Joe Fleming, Brian Currie, Mike Gundlach, Terri and Mark Oehmichen, Freddy and Christy Welch, Charlie and Patty Coleman, Terry Thomas, Jon Blackledge, David Powell, Barry Skellie and for all your help with cleanup and returning boats and trailers back to the club. If I missed someone, please know your help was greatly appreciated. Our annual General Membership Meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 7P.M. in accordance with club bylaws. I highly encourage each member to attend this important meeting. Each member should have received notification of the meeting by either electronic or U.S. Mail. All members, eligible to vote, will be casting their vote for the proposed slate of officers and new board members for the 2018 calendar year as well as several bylaw changes. Prior to the meeting, please review the proposed by law changes that were included with your meeting notification. Complimentary red beans and rice will be served beginning at 6:30 P.M. Please read the newsletter for additional information and activities planned in November. Your House and Entertainment Committees are working hard to provide you with good food and entertainment throughout the month. That s all for now. See you at the club!

Continuing through November Initiation Dues will be $100 for new applicants, and, if you are the primary sponsor on the application, and the applicant is approved, YOU will receive a $100 bar credit. 4 CROQUET COMMISSIONER MARION BOWMAN On Saturday, October 21 st eleven members, dressed in their croquet whites, defied the odd of rain and showed up to play our annual Croquet Team Championship. Rules of the game, Golf Plus, a slightly competitive but fun game was explained by Marion. A half hour into the games, the rains came so we gathered at the bar for mimosas and bloody marys. Not a bad break. After two rounds we took a break for lunch--the most delicious soup I have ever had, made by Joe Fleming and wonderful chicken salad sandwiches made by Julie. Those grapes and nuts really made it, and of course bloody marys and more mimosas. This was turning out to be a drinking party rather than croquet. In the end Tom Stokes team of, Marion Bowman and Teresa Burton (our newbie) won but it was Teresa who made the difference with all her points. Well done Teresa. Fun and laughter was had by all and thanks to our wonderful bartender, Patti Steagall. Do join us for our next tournament. HOUSE COMMITTEE JULIE NOBLE Welcome Fall. After a very "busy" weather month, the days lately have been beautiful. The club started off with Cruisin' the Coast. We were open downstairs on Monday for the Kick-off Parade and upstairs the VIP/Sponsor Party was being held. Thank you to Joe Fleming for cooking the hamburgers and hot dogs downstairs and to Millard & Sharon Quigley for their help. We had our Country Cruisin' Breakfast on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It is always great to meet new "Cruisers" and visit with the ones who return each year. Unfortunately, Hurricane Nate changed everyone's plans on Saturday. I would like to give a huge Thank You to everyone who helped with the breakfasts - Bo Clarke, Dixie Huch, Scott & Donna Painter, TJ Brace, David Powell, Joe Fleming, Millard Quigley,, Dick & Karen Urban, Alice Barnett, Barry Skellie, Patti Steagall,, Marion Bowman, Kathryn Kranz, Roy & Dana Burke, Edgie Dorris, Sandy Pace, Jocelyn Turnbough, Tom Stokes, Terri Oehmichen, Diane Noyes, Rebecca Barrow, Marguerite Hess and my brother-in-law Bill Burns. (If I left anyone out, it was certainly unintentional - we appreciate you all). As I always say - it takes a village. We appreciate all of your hard work and dedication to the club. Thank you to and Marguerite Hess for doing Trivia Night (even if my team didn't win). It was fun and Sandy's personal pizzas were great. Sandy Pace continues to prepare very tasty and reasonably priced Friday night dinners (as well as delicious desserts on Thursday nights). Come down and give them a try. You won't be disappointed. We also had Karaoke and a Bunco Night which was really a lot of fun. Good food, prizes and door prizes. Thank you to all the cooks for the delicious dishes and, Marguerite Hess, Bo Clarke, Sandy Pace and Chris Harris for all their help. Sorry you didn't win the Most Losses Elvis - you tried hard. Please check the calendar and newsletter for all upcoming events. 5 FLEET CAPTAIN JUNE WIGGINS Hi folks. Well, it finally got a little cooler (of course not until we had a small hurricane!) Thanks to all the boat movers. We have quite a few boats when you have to move them. I know some of the junior sailors helped move them. Mark O., Terry T., Freddie W. and Aidan L. helped move them back. Thanks to all. We could not have done it without you. It s a great time to sail and be on the water. Happy sailing and I will see you at the club.
