MAN & N.W. ONT GOOD SAM CLUB BUFFALO CHIPS Volume 28 Issue 22 October 28, 2017 Fair Winds Director - Jim & Pat Scott Where did the summer go? It sure went quickly for us. First and foremost, we again had a great Provincial Rally at Shoal Lake, MB in June. I have often said that air conditioning is not usually a factor in early June but it was this year. It was gorgeous and the whole week came off again without major drama. We received many positive comments and are again very thankful to have such wonderful folks to work with in the Provincial organization and the Chapters. Everyone pitched in as always to ensure success. I would be remiss if I didn t note how wonderful the Saturday entertainment was again. The fifty-four members of the Strathclair Theatre Chorus wowed us with an unforgettable night of Country Music. As a reminder to all, the 2018 and 2019 Rallies will be held in Carman again. As you know we had a tough time securing our original choice of venue and by popular demand Carman was requested. So, after checking with the Town of Carman, the facilities were not booked, but they are now, for us. Full speed ahead to Please encourage everyone to come out to Carman, 29 May to 3 June Non- Good Sam campers are welcome to join us, so bring your friends along with you. In July Pat and I attended a great camping weekend with Directors from the former Northern Plains Region. We had great discussions and the minutes of the weekend have been passed out to Chapter Presidents and Provincial Executive. I would be pleased to get any feedback you may have. As a group, we intend to re-engage next July again. To those that snowbird to southern climes, we hope you enjoy your travels to new places or to old familiar haunts. Stay safe out there so we ll have the pleasure of seeing you soon. Fair Winds to you all. Jim and Pat Scott Provincial Director

Manitoba & N.W. Ontario RV Rally Early Bird Tuesday, May 29, 2018 RV Rally May 30 to June 3, 2018 Our trusty Parkers will get you settled in for a fun filled RV Rally. Manitoba Goldeyes Reporter - Loraine Krastel The Goldeyes had a fun summer of camping. Opening-up the season at Teulon, we had six rigs. Our Entertainment director Linda Rankin guided the ladies in Chair Yoga and then on Sunday took along some ladies to a Circle Dance class. Then four rigs went to the Shoal Lake RV Rally and a good time was had by all. We all joined up again (6) in Emerson in June with more chair yoga and games, Beausejour (2) in July and Winnipeg Beach (2) in September for Winnipeg Beaches Beachfest Celebration. At all our outings we had pot lucks and group breakfast. Now we are planning our Christmas supper.

Darvill Derby The Darvill Derby was a thundering success as the Provincial horse stormed to a 1 st place finish looking for the hay (we think it was hay???). Redboines, Patches, followed close behind in 2 nd place and Sleeping Giants crossed the finish line in 3 rd place. It quickly became obvious that some of the Stables had been training their entry all winter long. Wondering which Stable will create an upset in 2018? Manitoba Sunny Sams Reporter - Tom Breman Alas, another season of camping is done. Sunny Sams started the camping season on May 15th with our first camp being held at Birds Hill Park. It was a damp and cool couple of days. Next up, several members took in the Shoal Lake Rally where we carried off our assigned duties helping to make the event a success. In June our chapter went to West Hawk Lake for a mid week stay (13th to 16th). Although we had thought this would be a quieter time, there were park improvements being carried out and regular maintenance being conducted to prepare the park for the upcoming busy summer season which, made it somewhat noisy. Our next stop was in Portage la Prairie for the July long weekend where, the chapter celebrated Canada's 150th birthday. We held a chapter supper replete with burgers shaped like maple leafs. The fireworks held at the exhibition grounds this year were spectacular. We then took in the Sunflower Festival in Altona on July 27th to 30th, followed by the Corn and Apple Festival in Morden on August 24th to 27th. These events are very popular with great entertainment, a great selection of good food and lots to see and partake in. Our final camp event was at Winnipeg Beach during the Boardwalk Show and Shine car show weekend held September 14th to 17th weekend. Unfortunately, the weather was less than cooperative this time out and we got a bit damp. We did have guests out for this event and they do seem interested in joining our chapter. We showed them a good time despite the rain, wind and cool nights. We held our wind-up pot luck supper on Oct 1st. Elections were held, with Tom Breman and Roland Weiler confirmed to their present positions and Brian Bodner becoming the Secretary/Treasurer for the chapter for Sadly, our chapter bids farewell to two members. Cliff and Rosemary Wood, who are moving to England, Rose s home country. They left Oct 23rd, We will miss them as they were active and valuable contributing members who willingly helped and stepped in to take on Rally duties. See you next year!

Look at all winners just waiting for their prizes at the Campers Social. Prairie Crocus Sams Reporter - Art Arbour The Chapter held it s first meeting on April 23 with Pot Luck and games. We discussed our plans for the upcoming season and our duties for the Shoal Lake Rally. May We had our first campout at Millar's Campground. We were very appreciative of the hospitality and Sun Room of Don and Marion's Sunroom during the showers and cool days. May 31 - June 4 The Shoal Lake Rally was a huge success for our Chapter as we had 100% attendance and winning the plaque. We also received a certificate for belonging to Good Sam International for 30 years. Our July campout was cancelled due to lack of members attending due to family gatherings and private functions. Aug We had our usual campout at Killarney with everybody attending except the Butterfield's who were still on their Alaskan trip Sept We had our annual joint campout Wheat City Sams. There were 4 rigs from Wheat City and 5 from Prairie Crocus. Corn and Chili was provided on Friday evening with the usual Pot Luck on Saturday followed by games. Sunday was a Pancake Breakfast with our Annual meeting held after cleaning up. Oct. 22 We will get together for Chinese food at Lee's Restaurant Nov.19 We look forward to joining Wheat City for Pot Luck Brunch and games. Dec. 3 Our Christmas Party with turkey and trimmings. The Chapter will continue to donate toys and a donation to Christmas Cheer.

Redboines Sams Reporter - David Bloomfield April 13, 2017 Breakfast at Smitty s 150 Meadowood Drive. Our monthly camp-outs began in May and were completed in September. May 18-22, 2017 Our first campout of the year was held at Champagne s Campground in Lac du Bonnet. We had 12 rigs and 2 guests. A great time was had by all. The weather even cooperated for the first 3 days before the rains came on Sunday and Monday, but that didn t seem to dampen our spirits! We enjoyed our games bean bag toss, Annual frying pan toss, and of course our daily happy hours and 50/50 draws. The guys had a good campfire going each evening until it got too chilly, while the women congregated indoors to keep warm and played some table games. Provincial Rally May 30 June 4 th 9 Rigs attended the Rally at Shoal Lake and it was a great event. As the weather was quite windy, several activities were held in the arena. Redboines took care of the Samgo. Jake Friesen and the Redboine crew took care of the Wagon-master duties for all Rally participants. Our silent auction provided great results for our charity. June 22-25, 2017 Our group enjoyed the weekend at Gladstone. We had 9 rigs out for the campout and all had a great time in spite of the cooler wet weather. July 13-16, rigs and an associate spent the weekend at Rock Garden in Richer. We held a campground wide 50/50 draw and silent auction. We participated in the park s Halloween in July, and It was another great weekend of fundraising for our charity Dream Factory. Aug 17-20, rigs, an associate, and 3 guest rigs spent the weekend at Great Oaks in Beausejour, where we held our silent auction which was a very successful fundraiser for our charity The Dream Factory will be receiving $3,000 this year thanks to the generous support of the campers at the RV Rally, Rock Garden and Great Woods. Sep 7-10, rigs, 1 associate and 2 guest rigs spent the weekend at Champagne s in Lac du Bonnet This completed our camp-outs for the year, and we had a very good season, attracting several guests as well as a few new members this year. Oct 21, 2017 Our AGM was held. Fancy Hat Parade at the Darvill Derby! Congratulations Glad we moved inside for the Hat Parade otherwise we are sure that all the hats would be flying in the wind. Rilla Kapella was stunning in the 1 st place hat and Judy Braybrook was also stunning but the hat came in 2 nd place. Thanks to all the Ladies that were looking lovely in their hats. Join the fun and create your own Fancy Hat for 2018!

Sleeping Giants Sams Reporter - Chris Maurik Well another camping season is coming to an end. We have had campouts every two weeks along with a journey to Shoal Lake to start the year. Our first campout as usual was at the KOA close to town so we could all check out our units for winter damage. We started this campout with a bang, as last year the Ladies decided that we had to have a POT party. So that was arranged. All the Ladies were handed a pot, a bag of dirt and an Geranium plant. The Ladies put this all together and took it home. A few of the plants travelled with the group all season long. All our campouts were within a 60-mile radius around thunder Bay. We may have to change that re this is the second season that the weather hasn t cooperated with our camping. Our campouts were again on Tuesday to Friday to stay away from the weekend crowds. We had a lot of potlucks and breakfasts of pancakes, bacon and sausages to the point were our pres. Barb made supper a couple of times. Very much appreciated but at a cost. Thanks for all the work Barb. The first week of September we will be our annual get together with the Dryden group at Davey Lake, should be a good time. All our campouts were well attended with an average attendance of 15 to 16 people, and the top campout attendance was our 2 Chippewa Park campouts with as many as 25 members. We also have a couple of our members with new rigs, must be nice to have money or guts. On Saturday, September 16th our club made its annual donation to the KOA Care Kamp for Kids with cancer. On behalf of the Sleeping Giant Sams group, we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and Save travels to all the Snowbirds.

POT LUCK DINNER --- Nothing better than good friends and good food. YellowQuill Sams Reporter - Tom Muir In April, the Yellowquill kicked off the 2017 season with a pot luck dinner. On the May Long Weekend, we camped in Portage and the men hosted a pancake breakfast for the ladies. In June, there was a 5-day campout at Winnipeg Beach and August found us in Spruce Woods for a 7-day for a campout. 10 rigs attended a 4-day September campout at the Haywoods. Our windup was also in September at the Portage Campground. Join us in Carman and you will be smiling like these two!

Wheat City Sams Reporter - Howard Norek Our club has had a very good summer of camping. Including the Rally, we had 6 campouts. They were all well attended. Our first campout was at Treesbank, near Wawanesa in May. We had a tour of a Hutterite Colony production of emergency vehicles. As 1 of only 2 western Canada builders, they build about 14 high quality fire trucks a year and ship throughout Canada and the U.S. In May/June, we had a good turnout at the Rally. A very good Rally indeed! In June, we camped in Souris and again had a tour of a Hutterite Colony. We had 1 guest rig from Prairie Crocus join us. We toured the dairy where they have 110 cows in a barn that is cleaned by an automatic system, and a robot floor sweeper that tucks the feed back to the feeder, so the cows can reach it. Each cow has a neck band with a responder for the computer to monitor her vitals. And the best part is that each cow enters a robot milking stall when she has the urge to be milked. The robot cleans the udder, extracts the milk, tests it and it gets piped to the tank for shipping. They also gave us a tour of their tomato green house where we could buy fresh tomatoes. Our July outing in Gladstone included a tour of the Farmery Brewery in Neepawa. They grow their own barley and hops locally so that they are not held hostage by the big competition. The samples were very good too! August had us in Holland for another good outing of games, eating and bonfires. In September, we were camping guests of Prairie Crocus in Wellwood and again with the Good Sams from Minot North Dakota to camp in Antler, ND. All in all, it was a great camping summer with great weather and the mosquitoes were in short supply! Our Annual Meeting on October 15 will include an election of officers. From our chapter to yours, we wish you all the best for a happy winter. Cheer up this may be the last day of the 2017 Shoal Lake RV Rally but remember there is always next year in Carman. Use the registration below and be one of the first to sign up for the 2018 RV Rally.
