1 SKAGWAY CHAMBER NEWS December 2016 Skagway Chamber of Commerce P.O. Box 194, Skagway, AK Tel: Fax: THANK YOU TO OUR NEW AND RENEWING MEMBERS! SPONSOR * Hunz & Hunz Enterprises ASSOCIATE * Diamonds International * Skagway Pizza Station STANDARD * Alyeska Realty * ATIA * Brickers *Chilkat River Adventures* Mattingly Investments * * Skagway Police Department * Skagway Museum * The Skagway Chamber of Commerce invites you to become a part of an exciting and rewarding organization. Visit our Web site for more information As we approach a New Year, 2017, there are plenty of things we can do individually and as a business to increase our output and productivity. To really succeed, you must act on whatever needs doing, instantly. You must Insta-Act! Everyone has good ideas and important things to do. Unfortunately, most of us put off acting on our good ideas or diving into important projects because it requires a sharp jolt of mental and physical exertion to get started. I ll get to it later, maybe tomorrow, after I take care of a few details right now, is a typical response. But that s a killer. Instead, reverse that situation. Good ideas and important projects must be acted on, right now! More than any other factor, Insta-Act is what separates those who succeed from those who stagnate. THE BUZZ-OUT SYNDROME When you decide to act on a project and begin to concentrate on the tasks at hand, after a few minutes your mind will go unfocused. It will simply buzz-out. Such buzzing out, in many cases, will forever prevent the completion of that project. The reason the mind buzzes out is because most of us are not used to independent, hard thinking. Harvey Firestone, founder of Firestone Tires, stated, there is not limit to the extent a person will go to avoid hard thinking. Instead of avoiding hard thinking, you should aggressively dive into hard thinking whenever and wherever you see the opportunity. At first, your efforts are easily sabotaged. After just a few minutes of hard thinking, your mind will have a tendency to become unfocused. But, by being aware of the Buzz-Out Syndrome, you can turn that situation around. Recognize how that mental buzzing out is what holds almost everyone down and keeps Them from achieving great things. As soon as you feel your mind starting to buzz-out, you should pause, re-focus your concentration, and then pus forward with gusto! That will know buzz-out from your brain! Once you identify this, it becomes easy to defeat that buzz-out monster. Similar to the way you can feel yourself burning away fat when exercising, you can actually feel yourself burning away buzz-out from within your brain when concentrating. The more it hurts, the more motivated you become. With practice, our thinking capacity will increase enormously. Concentrate You can immediately elevate your power in business and in life by exerting hard concentration. Envision a goal, then concentrate hard on all the actions you must take to accomplish that goal.

A Santa Claus Biography The 16th century Dutch are what kept the legend of Saint Nicholas alive and they are thought to be the first people to celebrate him. The children of Holland would put their shoes by the fire in hopes for a gift from Saint Nicholas, who was known by the Dutch as Sint Nikolaaas. Over time the name was also known as Sinterklaas, and then it became what we call him as, Santa Claus.

(3-3/4 cups) powdered sugar, sifted if lumpy 1 to 2 large egg whites 1 tsp. almond extract, vanilla or lemon juice Directions: Gingerbread house: In a large bowl, cream the butter, brown sugar, molasses, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and baking soda together until mixture is smooth. Blend in the flour and water to make a stiff dough. Chill at least 30 mixtures or until firm. Preheat oven to 375 f. Cut out the paper patterns for gingerbread house template. Roll gingerbread dough out to edges on a large, rimless cookie sheet. Place paper patterns onto the rolled out dough. With a sharp, straight edged knife, cut around each of the pieces, but leave pieces in place. Bake at 375 degrees for about 15 minutes until dough feels firm. Assemble Gingerbread house carefully, using Royal Icing as your glue. It usually works best, to start with the 4 sides of the house and moving to the roof once the foundation has had enough time to dry. Decorate with candy, fruit pieces, royal icing etc. Happy Holidays! 2016 DIRECTORS & STAFF DIRECTOR: Jackie Schaefer, President P.O.
