Some highlights from the September Meeting: The membership approved the proposed amendments to the bylaws and they are posted on the SNGMS website. Elections are in November. If you would like to run for office, please attend the October meeting to be included on the November ballot. The club voted to determine if a change from the California Federation of Gem Mineralogical Societies to the Rocky Mountain Federation is beneficial for the membership. First and foremost, the reason for the request is that the clubs that SNGMS associates with are from Arizona and Utah who are members of Rocky Mountain Kingman, Quartzsite, Cedar City, etc. The cost may be less. The Board is reviewing the pros and cons in a move of this nature. However, if the Board determines that the move would be beneficial, the membership voted to allow the Board to make the change. On a personal note, I would like to thanks Clara Hatz for my hammer block. It works wonderfully! Happy Hunting Sheri

2 PAGE 2 THE POLISHED SLAB SEPTEMBER 2012 Board Meeting Summary - September 6th 2012 On September 6, 2012, a board of directors meeting of the Southern Nevada Gem and Mineral Society was called to order at 5:46 P.M. The president was in the chair, the secretary and all other members were present. A pledge of allegiance was given to the flag. The minutes of the August board meeting were approved as read. The treasurer reported for the month of August a negative net income. Outstanding bills were paid upon motion of Frank, seconded by Ernie. The shop foreman reported two genies may soon need supplemental or replacement pumps. The show committee chairperson reported show planning is going slow, and may be on hold for a while. Unfinished Business: Being a pot-luck event, this year s awards banquet will need a signup sheet for attendees, to be made available next general meeting. Also, the first, second, and third place prizes for said event s centerpiece contest were determined. New business: This month s general meeting will see the start of the door prize drawings, and by-laws amendment discussions. Danny Fesler was suggested as the Nominating committee chair. The general membership will be informed of the possible benefits of changing from California to Rocky Mountain Federations, with more research into said transition planned. A field trip to the Bowl of Fire is planned in conjunction with the annual Ore Car Mine event. The meeting was adjourned at 7:28 P.M.
