President s Message and Comments The Prez Sez Dust em off, and gas em up! Poker Run Here it comes. February means the annual OTHG Poker Run. Held this year at the new Host location; Pavillions Rock and Roll McDonalds. That s right Ronald McDonald has joined forces with us! The event has grown to be a premier event over the years, and you can expect 100 or more cars to attend. Once again we have a very cool event shirt, designed by Mike Rust, which will become the new favorite of many! It s a blast to go across the state and into California and even New Mexico and see people all over in our Poker run T-shirts. It takes a lot of planning and club participation to pull this event off; we get a little better at it each year. The poker run chairpersons and the various teams work hard on this event. Club members (championed by Fred Elston) canvass the valley for vendor donations, and sponsorships. Make sure you show appreciation to those sponsors by doing business with them. Many have been with us from the start. Sign up for a duty assignment and bring in your prize donation(s) if you haven t already done so. We are down from previous years for prize donations. Once again it s your energy and assistance that make it work; we count on all of you to make this a success! Early March is the Yuma show, very popular with OTHG chapters in AZ and Calif. Make sure to wear your Yellow every where you go; we have made quite an impression on the other chapters over the years with our mass yellow entrances for lunch and things. Also make sure you do the parade, it s a blast and the entire town turns out to watch it. Right on the heels of the OTHG poker run/and Yuma is Jim Elgans Copper Country run in Globe/Miami area. Jim does a great job putting this thing together each year and asks for a little help from his friends to manage things on event day. The event is held to support the local Habitat for Humanity organization, a very worthy cause. Talk to Jim and he ll give you something to do. (its nearly painless) Once again this year Brenda and I are sponsoring a Hi-Boy trophy and will be selecting a neat fender-less ride for the award. The club presents one of our coveted OTHG we dig your ride awards at this show each year. Then it s April and time once again for the Good Guys Del Mar pilgrimage Come with us and explore Arizona and parts of California seldom seen when you choose to lead foot it on the freeways and miss out on the less traveled path. Yeah it takes longer, but it s at least 50 times the fun! Join with us on one of these runs and witness first hand the phenomena of starting out with a specific number of cars, and ending up at the planned destination with nearly the same number of cars. (Sometimes more, sometimes less) Hey.Don t make me tell you; Ya shoulda been there!

3 Volume 31 CRUZIN NEWS-N-VIEWS Page 3 WINSLOW 2005 Poker Run Prizes It s that time of the year again to reserve your room at the La Posada Hotel for the Just Cruis n Car Club s Standin on the Corner Car Show in Winslow, AZ. Linda Barnes has been in contact with the hotel and we have 36 rooms this year. The date of the Winslow show is October 7th & 8th, the second weekend in October. To secure a room for this great show, Linda needs a deposit of $ per room. There is a two-night minimum. Also, if you have a special request, room change, etc., she needs that at the same time she receives your deposit and she will try to accommodate the request if possible. You will receive a letter of the balance due later, and all funds will need to be collected by the September business meeting. Please mail your deposit to Linda Barnes, 4971 North 7th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ If you have any questions, you can give her a call at (602) Pick up your Poker Run shirts while there is a large selection of sizes. SPECIAL THANKS A special thank you to Nancy Perry from Arizona Sportswear, for the terrific job she did on the 8th Anniversary shirts. She really deserves our support, call her at for any of your screenprinting or embroidery needs. Thanks again, Nancy. PLEASE TURN IN YOUR PRIZES before the event. It creates confusion when we get 50% of our giveaways the morning of the run. It s just impossible to have any organization when that happens. We miss getting some of the donations listed and the vendors don t get thank you letters. So start your shopping now, we need at least one quality item donated from each member. The item should be something you would enjoy winning, it doesn t have to be automotive related. 7 Volume 31 CRUZIN NEWS-N-VIEWS Page 7 Business Meeting - January 5, 2005 Pres. Larry Besore called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. He asked members to check the roster on the bar and update their information. He welcomed Art Bans (3rd mtg.) and Bill Clark (2nd mtg.) and Nancy Morgan (1st mtg.). The last board meeting was about: 1) Poker Run 2) the web site is out dated 3) Nancy Morgan was approved as an applicant. We have 4 people on the waiting list, as there are no openings right now. Event reports: There was a good turnout for Hot Rod Soup Putt. Chuck Turnquist had food, a band, a parade, and cold weather! Toyz for Totz was too cold for many to go. There was a decent turnout and they did very well with their brat sales. There were 140 cars. The Club Pick was a 1940 Ford Coupe that is on our Poker Run picture. They were pleased and surprised. They have sent that picture all over the country. The Christmas Party was good. The food was good. Good job Bob Bailey. Yvonne Rickson and Walter & Patti Hann had their cars broken into. Future events: Jan. 14, 15, & 16 is the swap meet at Big Surf. There will be a swap meet Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for the 3 weekends in a row. Bob Kerkel is handling that. January 30th is the Casa Grande Picnic. We are bringing the meat and doing the cooking. This is a social event, not a car show. If you go, bring a side dish. We are meeting at McDonald s at I-10 & Elliott. We will leave at 9:00 a.m. It is about a 40-minute ride. There will be a photo shoot for those that still need their pictures for the web site and an update of new board members. Feb. 6th is Herb Kitchener s putt to Mtn. Brook Village. Also on Feb. 6th is the RWCA Appreciation Putt at South Mtn. Park. Meet at 9:00 at 35th Ave. and Northern to cruise over to South Mtn. Park or be at the park at 10:00. Ken Du Bois went over the Poker Run. There has been a change in location. We will be having the Poker Run at the Rock and Roll McDonald s across the street from the 5 & Diner. He went over how this came about. The All Chevy Show is at the 5 & Diner. He is going to contact the pre-registered people (21 or so) and new flyers will go out. We will have signs directing the participants to McDonalds. There will be no food table. McDonald s has a rule that there is no food, even if it is only for us. We can do the auctions, awards, etc. We need more prizes. Bob Kerkel has the route figured out. There will be a pre-run to be sure the route is okay with no roadwork, etc. Anyone wanting to do the pre-run, meet at McDonald s at 7:00 for breakfast on the 12th. There is $ in the money bag for the Chinese auction. There are a lot of people looking for rooms for the Yuma show. Pres. Larry Besore did his monthly recognitions: Carol Elliott for the wonderful scrapbooks. She thanked Judy Nolte, Cris Bumpass, Donna Bailey, Prill Neagles, Cindy and Christine Bryant for their help. Conrad and Michelle Monroe and Art Bans for getting here even though they live in Show Low. Conrad for his many deep knee bends and wonderful photos.fred Elston for his good ideas and for being on the board for so long. Judy Nolte for the great newsletter and work on the Poker Run. Judy & Paul Nolte for doing the store and awards. Art Bans won $60.00 in the 50/50 and donated it back to the Club. Art was voted in for the first available spot in membership. The meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
