The date is December 3. The restaurant has a large meeting room that will seat more than 100 people comfortably. Make plans to attend this last event of the year. Hosts will arrive at 11 am to decorate; lunch will be served at noon. Remember we have a gift exchange. Bring one gift per family unit. The suggested limit on gifts is $ NOV. RALLY REPORT It is really a good feeling to know chapter members like seeing each other so much they arrive at the RV park two and three days before the official start day and then stay on after the rally ends to visit some more. We enjoyed beautiful spring-like weather in November and were eager to be out of doors to enjoy the sunshine and catch up on the latest adventures of our members. On Thursday morning several members drove to Meers, OK, with Dennis and Erika Moore in the lead to lunch at the popular Meers Store and Restaurant which is famous for its gigantic burgers and towering servings of ice cream. From there some visited the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge near Fort Sill, and other nearby areas to learn a bit of the area s history. 2 Page 2 Continued from pg 1 the Comanche Casino on the way back to the RV Park. Another group gathered at the clubhouse in the late afternoon to depart for the Comanche to partake of the Casino s dinner buffet and then try their luck at the machines. Those who stayed at the park all day were treated to a wonderful outdoor lunch of Cajun gumbo and fixings prepared by both Wanda and Charles Galligan. The popular Louisiana way to eat gumbo is to place rice in a bowl, add a scoop of potato salad and top it with gumbo. Try it; you ll like it! On Veterans Day, Friday morning the hosts provided mid-morning coffee and donuts. This treat brought all attendees together to visit both inside the clubroom and outside on the patio to enjoy the sunshine and pleasant temperatures. Former members Micky and Venita Holbrook, who recently moved to Wichita Falls, stopped by for a visit. Conversations continued through lunchtime and turned into card playing for some of the ladies. On Friday night the hosts honored our many former military members with a medley of military branch theme songs. Words were provided for a sing along to background music. The dinner meal was a takeoff on military MREs (meals ready to eat). The hosts wore battle helmets as they prepared and served the food. An actual military MRE package graced each table along with centerpieces of United States and military flags on a red white and blue base. After dinner there was a military trivia quiz followed by card games and visiting in the clubroom. The hosts provided a Saturday breakfast of Scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy before members took off in different directions to sightsee, shop or visit the local museum. The tech session and ladies craft were afternoon activities. The Saturday dinner was vegetable stew, baked chicken breast, slaw and pie. There was a door prize drawing for the flag centerpieces followed by exuberant horse racing and lively card games. After Sunday s breakfast Kathy Mabry, Jayne Grasso and John Sharpe led the group in singing Count Your Blessings. CHAPTER OFFICERS Following Jayne s reading of Jeremiah 28:11 pertaining to carrying too much mental baggage, the rally came to a close.

3 Page 3 D A AWARD! One of our members said, I haven t had the D.A. Award and I ll never get it, but of the 80 plus people present at this rally I can count 14 who have received it and some got it more than a few times. When its rally time and we start loading the RV for a few days you don t need to pack in a 5# bag of flour, so you put it in a smaller container. I remember one rally when we dropped by the Idell s coach and Billy had a football game going on his outside TV with a large crowd around it. Kathy and I were late arriving because I was upset that OU was losing so we sat in the back of the crowd. Well, Billy had an early start on happy hour because his team was winning. He tells Kathy (who is a non-drinker) that he has some wine she would like and sure enough she tried it and liked it. Darrell says, let me taste it. The wine is in a plastic juice jug and Darrell tells Billy that it isn t wine. Billy says it is. About that time Jeannette enters into the discussion and verifies that it is, indeed, not wine, but that it is a bottle of cranberry juice in its original container. Now this is a long way around to get to this: Seems Billy has a container of Metamucil he mixes with water in the mornings. Well our esteemed president sees that she has two re-purposed Miracle Whip containers of (both what she thought was) whole wheat flour and combines them to make one full one. Billy gets up and mixes his Metamucil. What does he get?? GRAVY!! Come on up, Jeannette, and get your award. That s what keeps us coming back. Welcome to new members, Tom and Sandy Butler from Bee Cave, TX. The two Mike and Donna couples are behind, as we now have three Tom and Sandy couples in the chapter! Thanksgiving is coming up very soon and then it s time for our Christmas Luncheon, so be sure to get your reservation forms in! The luncheon/installation of officers and gift exchange is always a super-fun close to our chapter year. Remember to wear your name badges!! Judy Lewis and president elect Bob Kriesman spoke at the November rally about the importance of volunteering in the chapter, particularly for hosting a rally. It truly is a fun experience and a good way to get better acquainted, so don t be shy - - give it a try. I have enjoyed being president of the Red River Rovers and will certainly miss some aspects of the position. You surely must know I didn t deserve the DA Award, but it traditionally comes with the job and it is all in fun. Seriously, I truly thank you for your support during the last two years and encourage you to consider holding an office in the chapter. It is an enlightening experience as to how our organization works. We pattern our chapter on the By-Laws of FMCA and abide by our chapter s Standing Rules. These documents are available on our website and in your Profile Books. Speaking of our website, I want to thank Darrell Gilliland for continuing to do an incredible job as Chairman of both our Webmaster and Newsletter Committees. He works year round keeping us informed of the happenings in our chapter. Many thanks, Darrell. Enjoying the weather and exchanging travel stories.
