1 FL-2D HARBOR CITY WINGS BEACON MELBOURNE, FLORIDA October 2009 GOLD WING ROAD RIDERS ASSOCIATION Chapter Director comments: Can you feel the fall weather yet? The weather man said we are going to have a cold front move in this week. I'll believe it when I feel it. Actually it has been cool the last couple of days in the morning. But it sure does get hot quick! It's getting the right time of the year to ride and hopefully we'll be able to start taking longer rides on the weekends. We're looking forward to the return of our northern families (our snowbirds are coming back to roost). On the 15th of Sep we had a kicktire at Long-Doggers and we showed up in full force there were about of us. We were sitting inside and out on the patio. There was a car show but when we showed up on our bikes it ended up as a car/bike show. We had 9 members go to Lutz's picnic on the 19th of Sep. On the 22 nd, 9 of us visited FL1-F Titusville's monthly gathering. Ride safe and long Charlotte & Mike Meetings - First Tuesday of each Month Currently meeting at : MeMaws on Babcock in Palm Bay. 2 Dat s it from de Director! There were 11 people hanging on to a rope that came down from a helicopter. Ten were men and one woman. They all decided that one person should get off because if they didn't, the rope would break and everyone would die. No one could decide who should go. Finally the woman gave a really touching speech on how she would give up her life to save the others, because women were used to giving up things for their husbands and children and giving in to men. All of the men started clapping. A man dies and goes to Heaven. He gets to meet GOD and asks GOD if he can ask him a few questions. "Sure," GOD says, "Go right ahead". "OK," the man says. "Why did you make women so pretty?" GOD says, "So you would like them." "OK," the guy says. "But how come you made them so beautiful?" "So you would LOVE them", GOD replies. The man ponders a moment and then asks, "But why did you make them such airheads?" GOD says, "So they would love you!"

He knows that the saucer is extremely old and very valuable, so he walks casually into the store and offers to buy the cat for two dollars. The store owner replies, "I'm sorry, but the cat isn't for sale. The collector says, "Please, I need a hungry cat around the house to catch mice. I'll pay you twenty dollars for that cat." And the owner says "Sold," and hands over the cat. The collector continues, "Hey, for the twenty bucks I wonder if you could throw in that old saucer. The cat's used to it and it'll save me from having to get a dish." To which the owner says, "Sorry buddy, but that's my lucky saucer. So far this week I've sold sixtyeight cats."
4 Safety Educator Hello Everyone, Well summers gone, and fall is officially here. Soon temperatures will drop, humidity will be low, and we ll all be getting back on our motorcycles and on the road again. During the summer when temperatures and humidity are high, and the threat of rain looms daily, we tend not to ride as much. Some of us may only ride to our monthly meetings, weather permitting, or not ride the entire summer at all. When we don t ride for some time, our skills diminish somewhat. But these skills return as we ride more. We realize were not in our air conditioned cars, but on two wheels. We become more aware of who s around us and what there doing, and how it affects us as motorcycle riders. We also need to be sure our bikes are in tip top shape, and T-clock before every ride. Just because you rode and T-clocked your bike yesterday, doesn t mean something isn t wrong with the bike today. Think safety and get into the habit of checking your bike completely before a ride. Your life could depend on it. That also means wearing helmets and appropriate clothing when out on a ride, and something reflective that will get you noticed. And with the onset of nicer weather here in Florida that means Snowbirds and more traffic. But it s the mindset of the Snowbirds that you need to be aware of. Let me explain; by the time they get to Florida in late fall, our fellow riders up north have put their bikes up for the winter, and these snowbirds are not used to seeing bikes on the road. Usually it s a me first attitude and motorcycles are secondary. When you are riding, you not only have to know what you are doing, but anticipate what the other drivers in cars are going to do, so you can adjust accordingly for your safety. At our next meeting on Oct. 6, we will have a corider discussion and presentation by Mike Duquette and Moe Dalton, and then go out to the parking lot to further the discussion with a field presentation. For those of us new to riding two up, it is imperative that your co-rider know all the controls and their functions. And should there be an emergency where the operator of the bike becomes ill and passes out, that the co-rider should be able to bring the bike to a stop. Even if the bike falls over once stopped, that s better than hitting something and getting severely injured. That s about it for this month, but I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who sent cards and visited me while I was in the hospital for my second back surgery. This surgery was a tough one, but I hope to see you all at our next meeting. Ray Mercier Mike & Pat Duquette, Senior Chapter Educators Ray & Diane Mercier, Asst. Chapter Educators During the next parking lot practice, Mike will be discussing Co-rider skills. I believe Pat will demo. Watch out for Chips and those speed traps.

Cash, check or charge? She asked after folding the items Jennifer had bought. As she fumbled for her wallet The cashier noticed a television remote control in her purse. Do you always carry your TV remote? The cashier asked. No, she replied, but my husband refused to come shopping with me, and I figured this was the best retaliation.. The Watermelon Patch There was a farmer who raised watermelons. He was doing pretty well, but he was plagued by local kids who would sneak into his patch at night and steal watermelons. After some careful thought he comes up with a clever idea that he thinks will scare the kids away for sure. So he makes up a sign and posts it in the field. The sign says, Warning, one of the watermelons in this field has been poisoned. The farmer goes to inspect his field the next morning and finds a new sign that says, Warning, now two of the watermelons in this field have been poisoned.. My Summer Vacation Summer was over and the teacher was asking the class about their vacations. She turned to little Johnny and asked what he did over the Summer. We visited my grandmother in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he said. That sounds like an excellent vocabulary word, the teacher said, Can you tell the class how you spell that? Little Johnny thought about it and said, Come to think of it, she lives in Ohio..

9 One day at a busy airport, the passengers on a commercial airliner are seated, waiting for the cockpit crew to show up so they can get under way. The pilot and co-pilot finally appear in the rear of the plane, and begin walking up to the cockpit through the center aisle. Both appear to be blind. The pilot is using a white cane, bumping into passengers right and left as he stumbles down the aisle, and the co-pilot is using a guide dog. Both have their eyes covered with huge sunglasses. At first the passengers do not react; thinking that it must be some sort of practical joke. However, after a few minutes the engines start spooling up and the airplane, starts moving down the runway. The passengers look at each other with some uneasiness, whispering among themselves and looking desperately to the flight attendants for reassurance. Then the airplane starts accelerating rapidly and people begin panicking. Some passengers are praying, and as the plane gets closer and closer to the end of the runway, the voices are becoming more and more hysterical. Finally, when the airplane has less than 20 feet of runway left, there is a sudden change in the pitch of the shouts as everyone screams at once, and at the very last moment the airplane lifts off and is airborne. Up in the cockpit, the co-pilot breathes a sigh of relief and turns to the Captain: "You know, one of these days the passengers aren't going to scream, and we are gonna get killed!" Dead Cow First-year students at Texas A&M's Vet school were attending their first anatomy class, with a real dead cow. They all gathered around the surgery table with the body covered with a white sheet. The professor started the class by telling them, "In Veterinary Medicine it is necessary to have two important qualities as a doctor: The first is that you not be disgusted by anything involving the animal body". For an example, the Professor pulled back the sheet, stuck his finger in the butt of the dead cow, withdrew it and stuck his finger in his mouth. "Go ahead and do the same thing," he told his students. The students freaked out, hesitated for several minutes, but eventually took turns sticking a finger in the butt of the dead cow and sucking on it. When everyone finished, the Professor looked at them and said, "The second most important quality is observation. I stuck in my middle finger and sucked on my index finger. Now learn to pay attention. Life's tough, but it's even tougher if you're stupid.." A special thanks to our members who submit articles. We love the support and the good information. Send them to Richard Mitts rm32904@yahoo.com Word documents are preferred. Pictures should be in jpg format. May I have your attention please!... A Very Special Thanks to Charlie Davies and Joanne Davies. They take this publication, make it web ready, and then put it on our Web Site. Without them, we would not be able to enjoy this on our computers. Many thanks for a fantastic job.
