2 COORDINATOR Around 5 years ago my wife Jimina and I arrived in Hamilton. We came to assist our daughter and her family. This has worked very well for all of us. A keen motorcycle rider for all of my life, in 1994 I joined up with the Ulysses Club of N Z. This was in Gisborne. At my first meeting with the Gizzi crew I found myself on Committee!! This was followed as Branch Coordinator for the next 12 years. At the Gisborne hosted National A G M I was elected on to N A T C O M. The next year I made it to National Vice President! Two further years and I decided a rest was called for. I Nominated Mike Dew for Natcom and he has now the reigns of Nat President. I have a passion for our Ulysses Club and am keen to see it grow. We need to encourage younger people to join our ranks. We are seen as silly old buggers by these younger people and why would we want to be seen riding with them? seems the reason that these younger people don't want to join Ulysses The old generation gap!!! I don't know the answer but I am keen to lead the Hamilton branch in our endeavours to promote Ulysses Club to our future members. I am a happy rally goer and believe this is the happy environment in which to encourage our new members. Having fun and building lasting friendships with like-minded people will lead to the younger set being keen to continue the values of being a ulyssian. As the club is expanding thru out the world our voices will be heard by the rule makers and make our bonds of Ulysses membership stronger. 20 years ago we talked of governments making motorcycling so expensive in licencing and insurance costs that our breed would die away, motorcycling would die out. The proposal from A C C that our levies could go to round $1100 per year just for their portion of licencing for a year would certainly go toward achieving that. We as motorcyclists need to encourage better understanding of the problems encountered on the roads by the powers that be!! We need to increase our power of voice. Larger membership will assist in us being heard. I am happy to be the Hamilton Branch coordinator and thank you all for your support. We need to work happily together so our enjoyment of motorcycling can grow and survive. Onwards and upwards is the requirement, let s all enjoy our hobby. I have loads of people to meet and hope with your help to lead a happy growing branch. Regards, Des Chiles No

To add to the chocolate icing on the cake, wife Shirley won the Raffle!! CHILD CANCER PRESENTATION At the May Branch Meeting Coordinator Goose presented a cheque for $10,000 to Kris Anderson, President of Waikato Child Cancer Foundation. In accepting the donation Kris emphasised the importance of Ulysses support for Child Cancer activities and that the proceeds from the Annual Toy Run are a mainstay of their budget. Apart from the financial support the opportunity to have a ride on a bike is a big thrill for the children, many of whom will not survive until the next Toy Run. 5
6 Frankton Thunder and the 2016 Toy Run Normality has resumed in Frankton after the Frankton Thunder Event held in March which brought Cars, Bikes and Bands together along with entertainment from the Burlesque Show, Miss Frankton Thunder and the Frankton Ink Tattoo competition. Saturday started off well with the resident markets and visitors mingling amongst the cars and bikes in Frankton. A number of great bands and singers got the entertainment underway with the stage erected outside Appco on the corner of Lake Rd and Commerce St and the Second Stage was rocking at the end of Commerce St outside the Frankton Hotel. The roar of cars and bikes in High St attracted a large number of spectators as a number of Drag Car and Bike Demonstrations were carried out along with the Turbine Bike carrying out a number of very noticeable engine runs. Sunday Morning Frankton erupted to the roar of bikes entering Commerce St arriving as part of the Toy Run. 6
7 The roar of the bikes entering Frankton was like a magnet to all the spectators who had already assembled in Frankton. With marshalls directing bikes into parking areas the town of Frankton was soon packed with bikes and their riders and passengers. Once again the sound of bikes and cars along with bands and their music filled the air. If you want to check out a video of the Frankton Thunder event check this out on your internet browser Frankton Thunder was an event not to be missed. If you did, better mark next year s Frankton Thunder on your calendar. Alan Thoresen #6326 AIDS WARNING! To all of you past 50, this message is especially for you...
